Dem Post Mortem

if the Polio vaccine gets revoked from approval, or banned, millions of dead or paralyzed kids.
Wait, what now? Why would it get revoked or banned? On the other side... why would that matter in the US?

RFKjr's top lawyer has tried to get the Polio vaccine banned. That's why it's a topic. And if it got banned, well diseases spread. There are still pockets of places on the planet where Polio is still a problem.
Is he trying to get it banned across the entire globe?

I don't know why anyone would be trying to get it banned, at least not the old-school injected vaccine that's been around forever. On the other hand... I guess I also figure it's more or less in the same camp as smallpox, and not a particular concern in the US.
You clearly do not understand what the Republicans are trying to do.
Part of me thinks she does as she has this weird propensity to support methods or strategies that are in the exact opposite of the positions she alleges to hold.

I don't know why someone would try to get rid of the polio vaccine, but....

Emily... ????
Do you not associate our lack of smallpox with the presence and prevalence of use of a smallpox vaccine?
Not an epidemiologist here, but most would probably predict a return of the disease when the practice that locally eradicated it was abandoned.
You know that we don't vaccinate for smallpox anymore, right? We stopped vaccinating for it in 1972. I've never been vaccinated for smallpox, nor has anyone my age or younger in the US.

What do you think other people infer when you say "But that's all the more reason why we cannot allow these people to steer the ship. We know exactly what kind of society they'll build if they are in charge, and it isn't tolerable to any thinking person with a conscience."?
Probably exactly what I said. Rather than what you said. Who besides you said anything about denying anyone their voting franchise? You're lost in the Foxosphere, old friend, and it's making you paranoid. Get back to reality before you find yourself screaming at the checkout lady for hiding all the eggs.
I don't watch Fox, I didn't vote for Trump. I'm so tired of the constant assumptions put forth to justify incivility.

Isn't measles back to being a thing in the US precisely because certain communities are vaccine adverse?

Also (and I'm very much aware that this argument won't land with Trump voters at all), vaccines don't just protect the person taking it but also the people who are so immuno compromised they can't take the vaccine themselves.
Measles has never been deemed eradicated, and it's still a recommended childhood vaccine.

Also Covid wasn't a problem in the U.S. either. Until it was. This shit takes two seconds to think about for people who have braincells.
Oh FFS.

You know that "covid" is a rebranding of coronavirus, right? Coronaviruses are 1) endemic to humans and 2) mutate faster than influenza. "Covid" has always been a problem, as it's been a consistent contributor to annual colds since the dawn of humanity. The other major endemic class is rhinovirus, also endemic, also highly mutable.

"Covid" was a specific virulent strain of coronavirus - and it's one that has already mutated out of what it was. Hell, it mutated 4 times during 2020. It's still here, and it's always going to be here. Same thing with influenza. At best, we'll get a good fast-follow vaccine program like we have with influenza, which will reduce the likelihood of catching the common chest cold.

Alternatively, you're full of crap.

Don't worry Jimmy, Emily is just here to teach us about "civility". :duel:

No, I honestly have that doubt.

And we're talking about an issue here that is literally a matter of life and death for people. I have no respect for anyone who takes it lightly.

I have, in about 2004. And I occasionally carried Atropine and 2 PAM chloride on me, because you can't be too safe.

Smallpox was erroneously declared eradicated worldwide, by WHO in 1980.
It’s baaask!

I don't care for discussion except for what I've bolded for emphasis.

As an aside but actually the point of the thread--this whole line of continuing the thread is bonkers and reveals any and all hoped-for irrelevant criticisms by random people against the Democratic party or liberals...far beyond the scope of the thread. To reiterate, the Democrats lost because of the economy and perceptions of the economy and Trump was perceived as change. The Democrats didn't do enough to market the economic improvements and to implement economic things that would captured attention and appeal to working class voters. Even the immigration issue was largely also about economics. --Now back to your regularly scheduled programming.

In the very short-term, it might not matter, but that isn't how pathogens or life in general works. Polio would infect a few people and then grow over the long-term until it became a major problem once again in the US.

My trouble is that the person exhibits a Dr. Nick like competence in medicine, and Emily Lake disagrees with the statement, but then adds a 'but' at the end of the disagreement. When the issue is something as simple as small pox or polio vaccinations, why in the fuck should we trust a person like that to be anywhere near our Dept. of HHS?

I ponder if Emily Lake is so forgiving with her personal doctors.

Dr. Nick: *walks into patient room* Hello Emile.
Emily: Emily.
Dr. Nick: No, I'm Dr. Nick.
Emily: My name is Emily, not Emile.
Dr. Nick: Nice to meet you Emily not Emile. Now before we get started can we agree that no matter what ends up happening in here, we don't get the police involved. (yes, I stole that)
Emily: *Hmm... his manner is a bit unnerving and that disclaimer is outright frightening, but lets see where this goes from here."

Also the whole thing where it's totally reasonable to think a disease could come back if access to a vaccine for it was restricted, and every credible expert agrees would be a very bad thing to happen, but somehow that's a totally unreasonable concept, if you're a dumbass.

It doesn't hurt Trump that the media itself seemingly intentionally failed to do any of their part in marketing such things, as if failing as a liberal media altogether was their entire point of existing, a "complicit opposition".

In what way to do you think I don't practice what I preach? What is it that you think I preach in the first place, that I'm not practicing?
and not jumping on the throat of anyone who disagrees with you
I only jump on the throat of people who have a repeated pattern of being complete assholes in their interaction with those who don't kowtow to their belief structures.

There are many people I disagree with on a regular basis without being at all pissy. For example... I generally don't jump on the throat of Jimmy Higgins (with specific made-up-rule exceptions ;)), or Gospel, or Toni, or Sohy, or Loren Pechtel, or Don2, or any number of others even though I disagree with them on a whole lot of topics.
or your favorite celebrities.
Who do you think my favorite celebrities are, and what views of their do you think matter to me?

You guys do know that you're busy being contemptuous toward me for your own failure to read for comprehension, right? I mean, you get that you're winding yourselves up because you made an incorrect negative inference from my post, right?
