Are people already regretting their choice?

The idea anyone who votes for the other guy "deserves what's coming to them" is not the dictum of a liberal society. Let alone the idea all members of a group should be punished if some portion of them do something.

I would never advocate depriving someone of civil rights by how they voted.

However my asshole neighbor who kept cutting trees down on my property and who was flying a Trump flag during the election will not get civility from me. I may have talked to him about twice a year before this but if he tries to talk to me I will tell him that I don't interact with people who supports the lying, evil fascist felon.

Interestingly soon after the election his front yard flag pole went away. I don't know if it fell, he took it down or if someone else did something to it.

Damage to a flagpole is not as concerning to me as mass arrests and deportations, or systematic unequal access to work, medical care, education, and housing. Dearborn is a symbol of Arab identity in the US, and because of that Trump and his goons will be specially targeting them for discrimination in the four years to come, while their conservative and liberal white neighbors beatifically look past them pretending not to notice. Not sorry. Screw anyone who thinks our so-called "liberal" party doesn't have a duty to defend a minority community against the attacks that are surely coming, just because "not enough" of them voted for their favorite politician. No one owes you a vote, nor should it be the price for the basic rights of a citizen. If that is how the Democrats feel, no wonder no one wants to fucking vote for them anymore.

Did I disagree with you?

People only care when it impacts them directly. War without draft (Iraq) is one thing, war with draft (well gosh, haven't had one of those in a while) entirely another. People felt inflation. Right now, people don't feel what Musk is doing in DC. So it is just 'politics' to them. If the IRS gets fucked up and income tax refunds become held up, then they start caring. As an aside, I got my taxes in pronto and already got my refund. I didn't waste a moment just in case Musk was planning on making the IRS impotent.

Sending yawns and shrugs to Dearborn.

That's up to you, I suppose?

Too many people from various ethnic or religious groups voted Trump to "lay the blame" on one particular group, but I was surprised by a certain factoid from a random YouTube:
In the recent election Dearborn cast 17% of its vote for ... Jill Stein!.

BTW and purely as idle curiosity -- though it MIGHT have reduced Arab-American support for Harris -- have Muslims ever chosen a woman to be chief of government or chief of state? Hindus chose Indira Gandhi, Jews chose Golda Meir, and some of the strongest recent European PMs have been female.

Buddhist Thailand has had TWO female Prime Ministers recently, though they are the sister and daughter of the infamous Thaksin. The military junta staged a coup d'état to remove the sister (now still in exile as a fugitive criminal) and years later installed the daughter.

That is how the GOP operates, and lots of people vote for them. Hell, it’s Trump’s MO.

Yeah, a lot of the Democrats seem to agree with you that imitating the Republicans is the only way to succeed in politics. But that begs the question, in that case, why not just vote for the Republicans?

As usual, the original context of a remark is now hidden despite the huge quote pyramids preserved around here. All we are left with are trite platitudes to make sense of.

HOWEVER:

Wow. The Ds -- who stand for sanity, charity, rationality and the general welfare keep losing elections. They need to start playing "hard-ball."

But we "learn" from Politesse that IF the Ds find smarter ways to appeal to voters, THEN we may as well elect the criminals, traitors and psychopaths offered up by the other side.

Oh, no. Nothing about trying to rebrand themselves as "Republicans Lite" was smart. It certainly didn't come across as hardball. It lost them voters in nearly every district. It lost them the election. And we may lose our democracy altogether. Not having the balls to take a hard stand for liberal values is costing them, and us, everything.

The idea anyone who votes for the other guy "deserves what's coming to them" is not the dictum of a liberal society.
Wut?
What the other guy dishes out, is precisely what they expect and precisely what they deserve if their guy wins.
The “dictum of liberal society” is that exactly that should come to pass.

Ideally what they deserve and what is dished out, are the same thing, and it is a good thing. If they vote for a bad guy they will get bad stuff.
Why else would they vote for a good guy?

I can see this is going nowhere.

We really are fucked, aren't we? Y'all are definitely more in tune with the mood of most of the Party leadership right now, D and R. But why you can't see that it isn't working baffles me. These goons are destroying the government department by department, and have no true loyalty to either party or any constituency. But they tell you to attack your neighbors instead of them, to blame the victims instead of the abusers, and you glibly smile and go along with it. Sure, blame the Arabs, blame the Blacks, blame Appalachia, blame suburban moms, blame college kids, whatever. Collective responsibility, what's that? It's everyone's fault but yours that our critical institutions are under attack.

Professional thieves are in your house, systematically stealing all your things, while you stare out the front window with a pair of cheap binoculars trying to catch Mrs. McGillicuddy across the street in the act of trampling your begonias.

Speak for yourself.
Having your eyes open has little to do with your ability or inability to change what you are seeing.

Your recent posts simply aren't making a lot of sense. The Democrats aren't the problem just because you don't feel they are as liberal/progressive as you would like. Without the Democrats, there would never have been programs to help the poor, no civil rights for minorities and women and gay folks etc, no programs to help older adults survive, no gay marriage, no legal abortion etc. Sure, they've made plenty of mistakes, but guess what? Humans are a very nasty species. Sometimes even the best of us fuck up. Now, all of the progress we have made is under attack.

Nobody here is blaming any particular group of people. I think most of posters are simply frustrated with how some people voted, so they are trying to figure out why a minority would vote for an obvious racist who hates diversity. I am surprised that so many people voted for Trump, despite how obvious it was that he didn't give a shit about them, so yeah. He admitted he wanted to be a dictator and he started right out on the path. Yet, most of the MAGAs are still behind his heinous actions. I'm pretty annoyed at them, but I'm not blaming any one group of people for his victory. You seem to be blaming a lot of people yourself. Maybe you should look in the mirror before making such generalizations about others. Maybe you're also frustrated so you feel the need to attack others too. Ok. I get that, but you seem to be doing the same thing you're accusing others of doing.

I do get a bit annoyed at all the people who didn't vote because Harris wasn't far enough left or was too far left, or was a woman, or tried to reach out to the other side etc etc. Over the course of my lifetime, I've voted for plenty of people I wasn't crazy about because their opponent was much worse. But, I have always voted, even in small local elections, so don't blame those of us who did our best to try and keep the felon out of the WH. We who voted for a decent person who wan't a psychopathic convicted felon, at least did our duty as citizens. Because of those who didn't vote or who voted for the worst choice in my ever, we are all fucked.

Stay on topic. I'm criticizing the folks here for scapegoating and attacking minorities. Not for helping the poor, expanding civil rights, helping older adults, or... well, the Democrats didn't actually do either of those last two things, but I would support those as well, if they had. Yes, even the best of us fuck up. Which is why it is important to be able to criticize powerful institutions, when they fail, and why being goaded into attacking fellow-victims is a classic mistake that has undercut many a democratic system over the last two millennia.

I don’t know if Poli voted but we are hearing the same song now that they were singing before the election.
I voted for a decent person because that was all I could do.
