Are people already regretting their choice?

She believed she would get free IVF, but all she got was fired.

She hoped Trump’s victory would change her life, but not like this - Wapo
It is paywalled. Does this federal employee vote for Trump?

It's gifted. Yes she voted for Trump.
Surely she understands that her sacrifice is part of what will make America great again, right? Does she not have faith in her orange jesus?
She voted for him because he promised free IVF. Her and her husband have been trying to conceive and her doctor recommends it.

Something I found out that I find a little astonishing. You may have had a government job for years but if you take a new position you are again a probationary employee.
Right, they fired people who were both experienced AND competent enough to be promoted (making them probationary).

Well, the selection criteria were always unrelated to performance, skill level, or the cruciality of the role.

The one and only criterion was "Is this person going to have a hard time suing for wrongful dismissal?".

People were sacked because they were easy to sack, and for no other reason whatsoever.

That seems really stupid to me and it has never worked that way anywhere I have worked. Or maybe it did and I don't know it.

So sad. Concepts of thoughts and prayers.

Trump’s foreign aid demolition hits major Christian charities - Washington Post

The vice president of World Vision, Edward Brown, said his Christian charity would have to lay off a few thousand workers if the administration’s policies weren’t reversed, people in the room said.

Other leaders of charities said the Trump administration never paid them for providing lifesaving assistance that was supposed to be exempt from the freeze under a waiver issued by Secretary of State Marco Rubio. Some had secured exemptions for their aid programs only to be informed last week that Rubio had canceled the programs altogether, a major source of frustration.

Sounds like government waste to me…

Did you read the article (which gives insight into her thinking)?
Insulting her is ignorant and unfair; and is symptom of an intolerance which turned off poorly-informed but centrist voters, and thereby helped elect the Monster.

She had voted for Biden. Despite despising Trump she succumbed to his lie about making IVF free -- a promise that was specifically important to her. She also accepted his lie that he would not pursue the "Project 2025 agenda."

Voting on character rather than issues would have cured her error, but that's no panacea generally: GW Bush came across as "nicer" than Al Gore; and Bill Clinton was a possibly-corrupt womanizer.

Many liberals also believed that Trump was not lying as blatantly as we now know he was. "We survived Trump-45. Trump-47 will be about the same" was an ignorant refrain frequently encountered on message boards. And don't forget that many Americans pay very little attention to politics; their vote is based on a tiny number of snippets.

Am I an especially good judge of character? I listen to the smarmy diction of Trump and automatically detest him regardless of his politics. Are many Americans such very bad judges of character? I realize that some relish wallowing in smarmy bullshit, but surely these are exceptions.

Blah blah blah. The ONLY solution I can offer is the drastic one of abolishing all social media, indirectly responsible for much of today's political problems. Polarization has been weaponized in the U.S. (and U.K.?); some other democracies may not have plunged into the abyss yet. Blah blah. HTH. Blah blah.

No I did not. They demanded an email before letting me read it.

My comment was meant to be snarky not an insult.

When I click I do get a "You were gifted this article by a Post subscriber. Want to read more?" popup, but it can be ignored or dismissed. (The "more" refers to OTHER articles.) Did you encounter a worse problem?

I am NOT doubting you. Some of these paywalls are erratic and may vary in behavior from browser to browser and from country to country. I can often read paywalled-articles with the ctrl-U and/or Disable_Javascript tricks but those are tedious to use.

Especially annoying is that it is media on the TRUTHFUL "side of the aisle" that tend to be paywalled. The sponsors of Fake news (Fox, NY Post etc.) are generally happy for you to read their lies for free! :HEADBUTT:

It is not intolerance - it is disgust. I am truly sorry she lost her position, but she got what she voted for.

Those voters were willing to vote for an unabashed racist delusional gasbag in order to get something they valued. They literally did not consider/care about the clear effects on others as long as they got what valued. Now she is being treated to outcomes she voted to have dumped onto others, and she doesn't like it. Maybe, the 100s of thousands (if not millions) of other Trump voters who realize they voted to screw themselves will learn in time for the next election. It is a hard lesson, but, apparently a necessary one.

Most lack the ability to consider the effects, which were obviously far from clear to them.
Democracies fail because citizens become complacent, and fail to scrutinize those to whom they hand the reins of power.
And/or entire populations are basically autistic, and are unable to tell a bloviating narcissistic bulshitter when they see and hear one, or even when they think they're scrutinizing one. I prefer the former - they didn't take civics in elementary school and forgot or never learned how important it is.

More damning of an entire city for the actions of a minority of its population. With such a racist, useless, piece-of-shit "left".. Jesus, who even needs a right wing when the left wing does so much flapping for them for free?
A majority of Michigan voters did not vote for Harris.
I do not accept as a principle that civil rights should be dependent on voting for any particular candidate.

Again, what use is a "left" that does half the legwork in crafting a fascist society?
The Dems do seem to suffer hard from the whole ‘perfection is the enemy of the good’ thing.

I do not believe that the events in Gaza were just coincidentally timed. Indeed, that was some very admirable divide and conquer shit that happened, and how cold blooded to just casually toss away so any innocent civilian lives, particularly children —all so that some billionaires could have more.

The meaning of words changes over time dumb asses.

Gay was a somewhat common name not too many decades ago. It's no joke that I had a co-worker once named Gay Holiday.

I wonder if they've expunged references to LT CMDR George Gay, USN, who as an Ensign piloted a US torpedo bomber against the Japanese at the Battle of Midway.

Visited Gay, Michigan once. Not much left of it. Nearly fell right into a massive stamp mill I didn't realize was standing on the roof of until that very moment. There is exactly one business in town. The Gay Bar.

Could have been worse. Could have been Hell Michigan.
