Are people already regretting their choice?

Many liberals also believed that Trump was not lying as blatantly as we now know he was. "We survived Trump-45. Trump-47 will be about the same"

I heard Conservatives say that Trump 45 was an asshole, but his POLICIES......I said that the 2024 Trump was NOT the 2016 Trump.

The ONLY solution I can offer is the drastic one of abolishing all social media, indirectly responsible for much of today's political problems.
The internet had so much potential, but as things turned out, it has made us the least informed society in history. AI in social media is only making it worse. Then the cries of "free speech" and the distrust of "fact checking" pretty much means AI can post utter bullshit in Facebook and people will believe it. There are thousands of bullshit AI posts about what a great compassionate genius Elon Musk is and boy do people lap that up.

It's gifted. Yes she voted for Trump.
Surely she understands that her sacrifice is part of what will make America great again, right? Does she not have faith in her orange jesus?

Did you read the article (which gives insight into her thinking)?
Insulting her is ignorant and unfair; and is symptom of an intolerance which turned off poorly-informed but centrist voters, and thereby helped elect the Monster.
It is not intolerance - it is disgust. I am truly sorry she lost her position, but she got what she voted for.
She had voted for Biden. Despite despising Trump she succumbed to his lie about making IVF free -- a promise that was specifically important to her. She also accepted his lie that he would not pursue the "Project 2025 agenda."
Those voters were willing to vote for an unabashed racist delusional gasbag in order to get something they valued. They literally did not consider/care about the clear effects on others as long as they got what valued. Now she is being treated to outcomes she voted to have dumped onto others, and she doesn't like it. Maybe, the 100s of thousands (if not millions) of other Trump voters who realize they voted to screw themselves will learn in time for the next election. It is a hard lesson, but, apparently a necessary one.

And then you have the 90 million odd voters who did not bother exercising their precious vote. Many of them will get what they did not want but could not be bothered. Hard to feel any sympathy for those who throw away their vote.

I would have thought that people would have shut up and stopped making fun of things that were “gay” after August 6. 1945.

Two close Black friends of mine told me that they had relatives who voted for Trump. Both Trump supporters are men, of course. One told my female friend that women were too soft to be president. She wanted to strangle her nephew who told her that. The other one didn't give a reason, but my friend believes that his brother wouldn't vote for Harris because she was female. I think that is more common than people want to admit. My male friend and his brother avoid discussing politics in order to maintain a relationship. He agreed that it was crazy that so many Black and Latino men voted for a racist. I told him I read that a lot of young men viewed Trump as macho and they liked that. Stupid. Stupid. Trump is more like a spoiled toddler than a macho man.

Anyway, we had dinner with him last night and enjoyed venting, among other things. We all agreed that we love cultural diversity and would hate living in a place dominated by one group of people. Considering there are still a few Trump signs up in my neighborhood, I don't think enough people are regretting their choices yet. But, perhaps when we enter a recession and inflation sky rockets due to Trump's erratic policies, that might change.

Just a note about sharing WaPo articles. We get to gift 10 a month, but we can also share an article without using one of our gifts. I could be wrong, but I think when we don't use a gift, that may be when WaPo asks for other information before letting non subscribers read it. The Times only allows 10 articles a month to be gifted and I don't think the Times asks readers for more information. I gifted one to my son the other day and he didn't say he had to give any info to read it.

More likely the misogyny will just ramp up.
We have progressed only to the point where some misogynist types are now reticent to announce their misogynist views. We are still far from the point where the ‘Murkin electorate is going to let any woman run the show. There are plenty of furriners and off color people to blame for trumpflation and the recession it presages. The very notion that Orange Jesus might have anything to do with it is so heretical, people who say such things deserve to be shipped off to Panama or shot for treason.

Around June when the impacts of the DOGE cuts will really start to be felt, we could put up signs with Trump's picture and "Remember the Groceries" around town.

I'm not so sure about that. Some people already realize they made a big error. The hard core cultists might not change their minds, but a lot of those who voted for the felon weren't part of the cult. They were just stupid and/or low information voters or they wouldn't vote for a female for president. My friend said last night that in his experience, those who vote for Republicans usually aren't very well informed regarding what's going on.

I agree that this sexist country isn't going to support a female for president in the near future. My favorite waiter where we eat lunch on Sundays, today agreed that a lot of Harris's loss was due to her being female. He's another person who happily supported Harris and agreed that women are every bit as tough as men. Our friend last night agreed that Dems who sat out this election were idiots. We have voted for candidates that we didn't particularly like or agree with on some issues many times but the alternative was always much worse. He also said that as a Black man he always votes because he realizes that people fought for his right to vote. Women were the last ones to get the right to vote, thanks to activist women in the early 20th Century. A lot of younger people don't even bother to vote.

Surely. A lot of people have theur heads in the sand about it, but I think you'd have to be very naive not to realize that Harris and Clinton's (not to mention Palin's and Chisholm's) gender had a part to play in the outcomes of those elections.

True. The question for me, is whether or not there are enough newly unenchanted voters in the FL and NY districts that are up for grabs, to make the difference. In NY maybe, but non-maga media in FL is as close as they can get it to being blacked out, overwhelmed by a tidal wave on of TrumPutin propaganda. The RW media bubble is strong there,
Both of the FL congressional districts up for grabs have under a million people, so probably a million voters between them.

Elon can simply stroll into wherever they keep the voter rolls and mail every voter a check for $10,000 along with a note threatening to file criminal fraud charges against them if they cash the enclosed check and fail to vote for the “right” guy.

What’s 10b$ to a guy worth more than 50 times that? What’s it all good for if you can’t have a little fun fucking with people?

Of course there will be lawsuits and maybe even a criminal charge over such blatantly illegal crap, but another $1b will keep all of it from reaching the SCROTUS until long after Leon’s chosen fascists have taken power, if ever.

I'm not counting on the Dems winning in those districts and to be honest, I'm fucking sick of getting texts and emails from the Dems begging me to give them money as I think it's pretty hopeless for a Democrat to win in those districts. Like you, I don't know as much about the one in NY, but since I live in a district that will never go blue, largely due to gerrymandering, I don't see a Dem winning in districts that were previously held by right wing extremists.

Yup. I don’t see a D getting seated from those districts even if they DO win. The fascists will try to get the Courts to prevent seating the fraudulently “elected” candidate.

Images of the Enola Gay are flagged for deletion! To laugh or to cry?
But it's not just that airplane. For example, Maj. Gen. Jeannie M. Leavitt, a highly decorated Air Force Officer, is flagged for deletion. I suppose her sex automatically implies the evil DEI at work.

I picked a .mil page with her photo, and confirmed that it is still present in The Internet Archive.. I clicked the Archive's "About" page to learn that that non-profit is based in San Francisco but "has satellites around the world." I sure hope that the Archive, or someone, maintains archives in a country outside of Musk-Putin-Trump reach. IIUC QOPAnon hopes to destroy climatology data and other science on which U.S. taxpayers have invested many billions.

I use the Archive (aka "Wayback Machine") frequently, but had never clicked on its "About" etc. It has a page with news headlines, many linking to Alternet.Org but also to sites like Forbes: "The Data Heroes Racing To Save Environmental Data From The Trump Purge".

That FORBES, of all news sources, is opposed to Trump-Musk bullshit just shows how stench-ridden is the cesspool in which Trump and the other toddlers in the QOPAnon-Koch-Musk team are floundering.

In Palin's case it was more her stupidity. I may actually have voted for McCain if he had picked a better running mate, regardless of sex.

If you didn't detect the sexist remarks frequently lobbed at Sarah Palin, you must miss quite a lot of the sexist remarks that happen around you. Same for Clinton in the primary season for that same election. The times were less than subtle on that front.

I am pretty sure that nobody started making fun of things that were "gay" until a couple of decades after 1945.

In 1945 "gay" meant "cheerful" or "fun", or was a girl's name (as famously used by the folks who brought you the events of August 6, 1945).

And for some people, "gay", is synonymous with Fine Cotton [/obscure Australian racing reference]

There's some confusion about that, as gay wasn't common slang for a homosexual until the late 60s, but the usage may have predated this by many decades in some circles, as is often the case with sociolectic slangs (see "woke" and "cool"). Cary Grant cracks a joke in a 1938 film in which he clearly means "gay" in reference to cross-dressing at least, which raises more eyebrows now than it seemingly did at the time.

Funny story I heard recently, in my area back in the 90s one of the local gangs of street hoodlums decided to call themselves the Fremont Afghan Gang and started tagging up the town with their new initials, not realizing that to fluent American English speakers those letters spelled a word... they did not appreciate the amused reaction of their contemporaries...

Blah blah blah. The ONLY solution I can offer is the drastic one of abolishing all social media, indirectly responsible for much of today's political problems. Polarization has been weaponized in the U.S. (and U.K.?); some other democracies may not have plunged into the abyss yet. Blah blah. HTH. Blah blah.
I find myself questioning whether social media might be the Fermi suicide technology.

My fav thing -almost my only thing - on FB is troll spotting. Find a post fawning on Elon the genius or thanking Agent Orange, look at the poster’s profile and the profiles of all the “people” agreeing with them. I put a short note on them asking people to check the “poster” profile.

It’s amazing and depressing, yet somehow heartening to see that at least 80% of them are hollow, obviously fake profiles. Typically there are a bunch of photos of themselves, no friends, no history, no posts… lately sometimes the profiles are populated with an assortment of flag waving stuff, but still not much more. But Russia is DEFINITELY the best customer that Zooks has ever had. .
Trumpsuckers don’t question ANY of it. But there are not as many of them as they think. Most of their patriotic friends are Russian trolls.

More damning of an entire city for the actions of a minority of its population. With such a racist, useless, piece-of-shit "left".. Jesus, who even needs a right wing when the left wing does so much flapping for them for free?
A majority of Michigan voters did not vote for Harris.
I do not accept as a principle that civil rights should be dependent on voting for any particular candidate.

Again, what use is a "left" that does half the legwork in crafting a fascist society?
The Dems do seem to suffer hard from the whole ‘perfection is the enemy of the good’ thing.
Majorly so.

I do not believe that the events in Gaza were just coincidentally timed. Indeed, that was some very admirable divide and conquer shit that happened, and how cold blooded to just casually toss away so any innocent civilian lives, particularly children —all so that some billionaires could have more.
Here I disagree--you're assuming a single player. I do agree the events in Gaza were timed to help The Felon, but I do not believe it was the billionaires who did so. Rather, it was people like Putin who wanted the US to destroy itself.
