Dem Post Mortem

Have the Dems done the post-mortem yet? What were the conclusions?
They decided they need to try to make an appeal to the middle again. Only even more so.

Gavin Newsom started a podcast where he talks about how sympathetic he feels towards conservatives. I'm sure their hearts are melting as we speak.
So no post-mortem done then?
Burning $1,000,000,00 (or thereabouts) on a failed campaign would certainly cause me to wish a post-mortem be done (though a resurrection would be better)
No, that is the post-mortem. They looked back carefully over the whole thing, and came to the conclusion that what they need to do is the same thing over again. That is their conclusion. They are the party of "never change", and they have to stay on brand.
In Australia we would call that a "Clayton's" post-mortem. The post-mortem you have when you are not having a post-mortem.
Consistency is often, but not always, to be admired.

Politese wants the Dems to slam to the left. A liberal Democrat hasn't won the plurality of the popular vote in decades. The trouble in the US is the 2010 GOP landslide due to the passage of the ACA, which is quite popular today. It provided an opportunity for the GOP to gerrymander the heck out of the federal and state districts. This has restricted the Democrats to winning seats. So even when the Democrats win by a good margin, they don't win by a lot of seats.

The Democrats beat Trump once. The trouble is, Covid caused inflation beat Biden. There are a lot of Democrats that are in denial about "if we only", but 2024 was about the cost of inflation (and to a lesser degree transgenders). There was no way around it, and the people choose very poorly.

Not true. "The Left" is a meaningless phantasm. "The Right" is a dangerous phantasm. I don't really care how Left someone is on whatever imaginary spectrum the news has cooked up this week, people will never agree on "how left" a given politician was anyways. The same fucking guy is a Marxist to one person and a corporate shill to the guy next to them at the diner. Look at Obama. Left? Center? Slightly Right but with a Left aesthetic? Muslim? Black guy? The answer you get depends on who you ask, and whatever the truth of the matter his legacy is not the result of how he placed on some rubric of directionality. That is not what makes a good president, or a successful campaigner. What we need is true leadership, and someone who gives at least a flying shit if not a squatting one about the American people as a whole.

Unless by "slant to the left" you mean "stop collaborating with or bonelessly opposing neo-Nazis and their attempts to jail, deport, or otherwise incriminate Politesse and all of their friends" in which case yes of course I fucking want that. I'm not suicidal, yet. But I don't think "right wing" people should want to live under a dictatorship either. Nor do I think most people actually do. There was a time when being "right" did not mean selling out the country to hostile foreign powers to prop up an authoritarian monster, and in some ways that time is still now. Not in DC, but in people's heads. Plenty of people are too dumb or too distracted to realize that time for pussy-footing around about anti-fascism passed on the days that Trump was exonerated by our own Congress and highest court for attempting coup.

Yeah, but that is a lot of words that don't actually say anything about differentiating between a good president and what the Democrats have nominated via the primaries.

Currently the GOP is slicing the Executive Branch. Close to permanently reducing it in size by firing people and selling off buildings, and reducing its capacity to provide services. Reaganites are orgasming all over the place. They won.

And you are bitching the Democrats don't care enough.

Well, whatever my real opinion is, it's definitely not what you said I said. I'm frankly not sure what an opinion could be, other than "a lot of words". If you think all the Democrats need to do is make a slight rightward adjustment to the Left/Right Slider to squeak out a narrow victory in Pennsylvania next time, via some vaguely signalled "messaging" nods than only polirical junkies will ever hear about, then I'm glad you're not on the DNC planning comittee. But the people who are have the same disastrous idea, so...

As for bitching that the Democrats don't care enough... well, yeah. How else do you explain what's happening? Precious few Drmocrats are saying anything at all about the dismantling of the government. Many are actively crossing party lines to support Trump initiatives. And most of those that have dared to say anything in critique of the palace coup are the very fringe radicals that the party leadership is afraid of.

Apparently, the Democrats just haven't become as good at lies, grift, violence, and treason as the Republicans and their supporters. So they're gonna keep losing elections to the Teaparty.

It was just complaining. I was trying to be nice.

I haven't said that. I said the Democrats lost because of inflation. Harris/Biden would have won had the globe not experienced it. Trump didn't win by much at all.

There is literally nothing they can do. Impeachment will only be an option if Trump openly defies SCOTUS.

Impeachment will only be an option if Trump openly defies SCOTUS.
What makes defying SCROTUS an impeachment option?
Is that going to anger congressional Republitard opportunist dirtbags into wanting him removed from office?
NO.
The trumpsucking populace thinks defying SCOTUS is cool; it makes their apricot a “strong leader”. No elected Republican will retain their office if they vocally differ with that stupidity. Voting to remove him would be suicide.

Unless the economy turns to utter shit. He’s got to be destroyed first. Then he can be impeached. But as long as his favorability stays high, he’s untouchable. And that all depends on the economy.

that all depends on the economy.
I wish. I mean, it should.
In fact that’s not how cults work.
Cause them pain, promise them pleasure - but only if they stay faithful!
So far, there is no evidence of a pain threshold that will threaten the success of that rubric.

Well, Trump hasn't had a real total failure - yet. he came close a few weeks ago when the markets started to melt down. But he quickly realized it and reversed course. But like I said in another thread, the economic outlook isn't particularly rosy. The American people will not tolerate an economic loser. They will abandon him if he doesn't deliver the goods. And I truly think he won't be able to - despite his reversal on tariffs. The demographic changes and the impact he's having on the federal government will fuck himself over.

Unless . . . the democrats rescue him. Which the sonsofbitches probably will.

WUT? They elected him TWICE.
They will abandon him if he doesn't deliver the goods.
He will TELL them he has delivered the goods and they will believe him as always.
If they complain - it’s Sleepy Joe’s fault and if you don’t accept that, you’re an unamurkin never Trumper and should be sent to El Salvador Libya. We don’t need stupid people here who believe the lame stream media.

Trump is frantically backpedaling, realizing that there might only be so much pain he can inflict on his own voters before they say ouch.
If you’re a foreign power this is a good time to make a “deal”; Trump will sign just about anything at this point. He’s even trying to make hay out of the “framework of a concept of a possible deal” he supposedly made with England, as if that’s some kind of accomplishment.

Good lord

82-year-old Brandon collected his thoughts before admitting that he "wasn't surprised" by Harris' loss to Trump.

"Not because I didn't think the Vice President was qualified to be President," he clarified. "She is, she's qualified to be President of the United States of America. I was surprised because they went the sexist route, the whole route. 'This is a woman,' she's this, she's that, really, I've never seen as successful and consistent [of a] campaign undercutting the notion that a woman couldn't lead the country — and a woman of mixed race."

President Biden has simply revealed the truth. If you deny that, then which of the two of you is having thinking capability trouble?

The Democrats are digging themselves a deeper hole every time they make this claim that her loss was due to sexism and/or racism. Democrat voters (as well as moderates & indepedents) who sat out the election out of candidate apathy are being told they're these horrible, bigoted people. Why would they want to vote for a party in the next election that has so much contempt for them? Shouldn't Democrats be focused on building up inspiration for their party, instead of recklessly insulting them?

Kamala Harris was just a weak candidate. She avoided the press, wouldn't answer direct questions, was slow (or non-existent) to declare her policy positions, had the most extreme liberal voting record (a bad place to be if you want to capture the all important moderate and independent voters) as a Senator, and was contradictory on her positions. Now that the election is over, many in her own party have been exposed as not wanting her to be the candidate, including and especially President Obama:

He certainly sounded more lucid and clear headed than swiz usually does.

I mostly agree with your comments. She just wasn’t comfortable talking about economics. She avoided difficult issues. Israel really hurt her also. I 100% support Israel, but Netanyahu fucked the dems bad. That deflated some on the left. She ran a horrible campaign. She is a little too left. And yet she only lost by 1.25%. This is important. He dosn’t have a mandate. But he’s ruling like he has a mandate. He and the republicans are overstepping dramatically. People aren’t going to forget that while Trump screwed the countries with his tariffs, that Republicans sat on their ass and did nothing. The republicans are going to get their asses handed to them in 26. And we’ve got a great shot in 28 if we can elect a moderate with broad appeal and common sense economic principles. At least that is my hope!
