Gerrymandering... it just is now.

Subverting democracy to save democracy is a dangerous path to tread. You may not get back.
And if we don’t attempt to save it will we get it back?
It is a huge risk with no guarantees.
No shit. The OP even referred to this as a malignant cancer, so you can stop your attempt of being the moral moderate.

The right-wing GOP put the justices on the SCOTUS bench that said this shit is constitutional. Now the Dems are facing a Hobson's choice in face of the GOP regerrymandering gerrymandered districts (TX, MO, OH, TBD) in order to hold the US House.

Rather than a moral extremist?

Certainly a bad decision.

I know, I know. Because they do it we must do it. When does it end? Pity the poor voters.

I'd questioned the term "moral".

A bad decision. I suppose that is one was to gas light it.

Option 1) Do nothing and hope the 35% Trump polling is enough to pull off a miracle to take the US House
Option 2) Do what the GOP is doing and have the control of the House come down to an even smaller handful of seats. Have a fairer-ish chance at winning what is left of the Democratic elections of the US House.

To put things in perspective,

2010: GOP 6.8% victory in vote for US House. GOP have 49 seat margin. (pre-2010 census gerrymander)
2018: Dems 8.6% victory in vote for US House. Dems have 36 seat margin. (post-2010 census gerrymander)

The word was introduced by you.

I am not condoning what the GOP is doing nor the Democrtas response. Gerrymandering is wrong no matter who does it. But going down the same path as each other ensures that no-one will win in the end.

Breakdown of UK 2024 results
Labour won 3.4x as many seats as Tory with only 10% more of the vote. Margin is 291 seats.

You really need to get more of your citizens to vote. As does the UK.

Rather than a moral extremist?
If either attempt fails (and it does) perhaps it’s not a productive stance.
Really need to get more of your citizens to vote.
^ Case in point. Pretend that this is your exclusive insight, while virtually every “lib” you decry has been beating that drum for years.

Never claimed that it was an exclusive insight. Just obvious (of course that is the problem).

So when/what are you going to do something about it?

Bullshit. You never complain about the right-wing. You are doing this bogus moral moderate crusade.

Preaching to the choir. Maybe reread the OP.

It amazes me how clueless you are about American elections, politics, yet clamor be the moral moderate, when you are neither. The GOP and Dems can't possibly pull that off for numerous reasons, that have nothing to do with voter turnout (2 party v >> 2 party voting, a lot more seats available for the territory, the existing gerrymandering)!

So when/what are you going to do something about it?
Me? Personally? Look over my posting history and count the dozens of times I’ve raised the point you want to excoriate us for not forcing.
Question - what part did YOU play in creating Au’s ‘mandatory’ voting laws?
None? Quelle surprise.
