California Doing California Things

ffs, CA tax payers are going to pay for multi millionaire’s wife’s security

Last Friday, law enforcement sources told the LA Times that Former Vice President Kamala Harris will receive protection from the California Highway Patrol.

News

Apparently security for cackling Kamala’s book tour will be paid by CA taxpayers. This will undoubtedly be Newsom’s doing.
But you wouldn’t be complaining if it was Trump’s foreign whore trophy wife. And THAT is a truly useless human.
Hypocrite.

Calling Melania a “whore” doesn’t make sense to me. It’s not only inaccurate, it also drags sex workers through the mud for no reason. If you think she married Trump for money or status, that’s a valid criticism to discuss, but that’s more a question of her personal values. We can talk about her character without demeaning people who actually do sex work for a living bruh bruh. Not saying we should, but we can.
Just because it's one customer only how does marrying for money not equal whore?

It doesn’t need funding, it needs canceled.
Why, so you can use the money to give tax cuts to friends of the regime?
Sorry, but he's right. It's never going to be viable.

I've ridden the high speed trains in China--and despite hauling ass the fact that they stop at various stations (even for very short stops) makes their real world performance no better than the highway. The only way to be competitive with air is to not have stops.
It will shorten the ride from SF to LA by ten hours. There are ten stops planned. It doesn't need to be competitive with air, it just needs to be a good way to get up and down the state.

Starting next year, Californians with diabetes will be able to purchase state-branded insulin at steeply reduced prices, Gov. Gavin Newsom announced today. “California didn’t wait for the pharmaceutical industry to do the right thing — we took matters into our own hands,” Newsom said in a statement released at 3 a.m. Pacific time. “No Californian should ever have to ration insulin or go into debt to stay alive.” The sale of insulin is part of the state’s CalRx initiative aimed at lowering prescription drug prices for Californians. Today’s announcement comes three years after Newsom announced the state would tackle the cost of insulin. The first vials of insulin will be for sale two years after the governor’s promised delivery date of 2024.

I am baffled ad to what you might see as "disastrous" about diabetics not dying. Please, feel free to explain.

Newsom committed California to making its own insulin. It’s at least a year behind his schedule

Doesn't look disastrous to me, just expectedly late as is typical with FDA approval. And good on them for pushing through with this plan. As is described in the link, with insulin prices coming down prior to this, it would be typical that this plan get scrapped out of concern is would be a money loser. Then once that happens, nothing would keep the current providers of insulin from raising prices again. But this move by Gov. Newsom will ensure prices stay low. Good on him. And good on you for bringing this article to light.

Civica, Inc., the nonprofit drug manufacturer contracted to produce insulin for California, has not started clinical trials or applied for approval from the federal Food and Drug Administration, both of which are likely to take more than a year to complete.

We will see if it takes longer considering the current administration’s opinion of Newsom and California.

I say it has disaster written all over it because Newsom is an incompetent buffoon and I suspect this initiative will not live up to Newsom's claims. At the moment there doesn't seem to be a lot of information on how this $11 insulin is going to be achieved and I suspect Newsom is doing some grandstanding here. Right now it looks like a proclamation and there is a long way to go before diabetics in California get cheap insulin. It will be interesting to watch this one.

Are you diabetic, or is this just one more thing that doesn't effect you, yet pisses you off about the "left"?

FWIW the cost in most western democratic countries is around $10. In the US, It's over $98.00.
If Trump got it down to $60 in the US you'd be singing his praises again (assuming you actually give a flying fuck about the price of insulin), but if Newscum got it down to $20 you'd be hollering about broken promises. If you're diabetic, you should move to Turkey. At $2.64 you can use all you want, and live like a king. If you or your family are not diabetic, maybe STFU about it unless you're personally willing to subsidize cheaper insulin.

Insulin Cost/Country 2025

If we (you) want to go full authoritarian like Turkey or even Hungary, $5 insulin might be do-able, depending on the whim of the tyrant.*
If they want, they can just do away with stuff like pre-natal care altogether (it's quite the backbreaker), and the savings can go to support diabetics feasting on Cheeseboogies.
They could make insulin free, or even pay people to take it, with the trillions that the American rich are about to inherit.
Insulin is major bread in the bread burgers and circuses game. I just don't see much entertainment value in it for you, Swiz.
Again, are you diabetic?

* The Au model will get you close, but that's democracy-rooted, so not currently available to 'Murkins thx to Trump voters.

If he's waiting for FDA approval he's going to have to wait a long time cuz guess who is in charge of that.

Well, it's Civica making the claim that glargine the most widely used insulin drug will be available Jan 1 at $11 per and Newsom parroting it. I find nothing on it having official FDA approval yet. But in as much as Jan 1 is not far off, some would say less than 76 days, this would indicate to me that it has met the bar within the FDA and the only thing that would stop it now is some political shenanigans at the federal level. So is it a gambit? Is Newsom challenging Trump to have the FDA delay the official approval? I mean, all politicians want lower drugs costs for Americans don't they? Well don't they?

This is hilarious. I'm at a loss for words.

Unpacking claim Trump planned 'show of force' by firing missiles into California during protests

  • An article by self-described "pro-democracy" media outlet MeidasTouch, which cited unnamed sources, reported that U.S. President Donald Trump's administration was planning a "show of force" by launching missiles into California on Oct. 18, 2025, the same day as planned "No Kings" protests, noting that Interstate 5 could be shut down.
  • California Gov. Gavin Newsom shared the claim on X, writing, "Donald Trump and JD Vance think that shutting down the I-5 to shoot out missiles from ships is how you respect the military."
  • The U.S. Marines posted a statement on their website that said "all training events will occur on approved training ranges and comport with established safety protocols" and that "no public highways or transportation routes will be closed." Newsom later acknowledged this statement on X.
  • The Los Angeles Times reported it was Newsom's office that considered the closure of the interstate to accommodate the event.

The rumor claimed the administration planned on closing Interstate 5 "to shoot out missiles from ships" and into Camp Pendleton, a training facility for the Marines about 80 miles southeast of Los Angeles.
Oh wow, a rumor.
I find it VERY believable that the presidunce would set off fireworks or do anything else - well, almost anything, not to include a naval attack on Camp Pendleton - to keep cameras on him and his despotic actions on 10/18, when he anticipates that the media might cover the event planned to flaunt his stupidity instead of airing his Trump Watches commercials.

Newsom is all about self promotion and his delusional thinking he can be president. This isn't about care for diabetics, this is all about Newsom.

I don't think this Newsom initiative is a particularly good idea because I think it should be a federal duty.

I mean, all politicians want lower drugs costs for Americans don't they? Well don't they?

I would like to think so but that doesn't seem to be happening or at least in any significant way that I am aware of. I know Biden had a stab at it.

In California we could probably have free medication for everyone but alas, we have a failed high speed rail project that nobody asked for instead.

Should having "free medication for everyone" be a *federal* duty, like you said above about cheaper insulin?

There's probably a million Californians using this particular insulin. CalRX pursued this most widely used insulin. If Newsom did this for self promotion, I and a million Californians may be fine with that.

I don't think this Newsom initiative is a particularly good idea because I think it should be a federal duty.
Well, when the largest economy in the world refuses to tackle the problem, I see no reason why the fourth largest shouldn't. Newsom is doing exactly what he should be doing during these dark times, flexing some states rights.

I have to wonder though, if tomorrow Newsom cancelled the high speed rail project claiming the money would be better spent on CalRX, how you might respond.

Of course, millions of California diabetics will be all for it. Maybe it would spurn other states to act similarly.

I wouldn't have a problem with it.

There is something wrong with Newsom, he really is bonkers.

Newsom shut down a 17-mile stretch of Interstate 5 between Los Angeles and San Diego in response to the move, which caused mass gridlock on the highway on Saturday.

Daily Mail

He shut down the freeway because of some army exercises at Camp Pendleton. A totally unnecessary gesture.
