How should west respond to Russian invasion of Ukraine?

A bit more:
In fact, Russia's import substitution program has not yielded significant results. Russian equipment manufacturers supply only about 30-45% of the market's needs, and only in certain components (pumps, compressors, reactors, etc.).

Russia has also failed to use China as an alternative supplier of equipment, as Chinese technologies are not always compatible with Russian equipment, sometimes requiring complete equipment replacement and significantly increasing repair and maintenance costs.
Defence Intelligence: Three Russian oil refineries did not complete scheduled repairs due to sanctions

The Geelong refinery had a fire on April 15th. It is expected to run at reduced capacity for at least six weeks.

That was an accidental fire, not targetted. It was a single event.

You can't tell me that a deliberate series of targetted attacks would have no effect.

And you can't tell me that the size of the warhead defines the degree of damage; Oil refineries bring their own high energy content fuels to the party.

Well, obviously you can tell me those things, but if you do, I will then know that you are an idiot.

Brigadier General Andriy Biletsky, Commander Ukraine's Third Army Corps concurs with yours truly, "I believe the next six to nine months are a turning point," Biletsky said. "More precisely, I think the next six are the most critical," he said.
Moscow is "radically losing" in battlefield communications because of Musk's crackdown on use of Starlink, Biletsky said.

There is one disturbing aspect to this, that this one individual can change the course of the war and can wake up tomorrow and do it again. Basically toy with both sides if he so chooses.

Biletsky's units lead the way in deploying stealthy kamikaze drones and robots armed with machineguns or rocket launchers to replace significant portions of infantrymen, aiming for 30% by 2027, he said.

He’s incredibly patriotic. Very pro military. Has very limited access to reliable news.
Rah rah rah …
Russia has the very best hookers - and clowns. I wonder which are paid better.
And he’s scared (due to Russian misinformation). He literally believes that the west are all Nazis who want to invade his country. Very sad…
Or just keeping his perennially brown nose to the wheel. Parroting the Party line loudly and often, is probably the only way to maintain economic parity with the hooker community.

Depends on what you hit. You don’t need to destroy the entire refinery. Key components are difficult to repair and sanctions can make repairs even more difficult.
So far they were unable to his any mythical "crucial" component of death star of any refinery.
They put coordinates of the oil storage tank into their tiny 50kg explosive drones and hope it doesn't get jammed.
You can deny it if you want but slowly and surely Russia is having serious difficulties
Bullshit, utter bullshit.

Bombing a storage tank stops production and destroys product at the same time
for a week yes. Let me dumb it down for you again. To shut down refinery completely you need to physically destroy the equipment which is spread over significant area. To do that you need a lot of heavy bombs (500kg and more) Single 50kg charge is not gonna do it.
Yes, yes. I'm sure you know a lot about oil refineries and bombs.
More than you obvioulsy.

What do burning refineries smell like? I do not know.

Depends on what you hit. You don’t need to destroy the entire refinery. Key components are difficult to repair and sanctions can make repairs even more difficult. Ukraine has been hitting refineries and seriously damaging them. You can deny it if you want but slowly and surely Russia is having serious difficulties. Typically Russia is down 10-15% of gas production and 20-25% at various times. That can have significant economic impacts.

Ukraine has a tougher time disrupting oil exports because a lot goes out via the Pacific which is generally too far for drone strikes. But who knows if that will change.
One of the chief mission goals of an attack on a refinery, oil storage, etc, is showing that the target is vulnerable. Russia's air defense system is being degraded on a daily basis and pulling antiaircraft units away from the combat area to defend far off refineries leaves Russian forces naked.
You don't get it, do you?
Ukrainian Regime has to lie. Their continued existence is based upon it. Western regimes have to lie for the same reason. Western regimes got used to be the best, the strongest and the smartest. Now when Russia and even more so Iran have shown that they can resist the western hegemony, you have to double down on lies. And China is feeling pretty good now. You can't even deal with Iran, let alone Russia.
Russia is doing fine, thanks to Trump we even have budget surplus, it's temporary, but I would not be surprised if Orange continues his wars well into his impeachment. And even if he does not oil prices will remain high for quite some time now.
All the horrors stories about millions and millions russian solders dying in Ukraine are utter lies which are perpetrated by the Ukrainian regime and their western handles in order to cover the utter failure or their plan to destroy sorry, "reform" Russia. You failed!

Now, Russia warned US about impending strikes on Kiev. I wonder if we finally put the gloves off and start beating the shit out of government critters in Kiev. If history is any indication we won't but I hope to be wrong this time. To hell with all that soviet era architecture. The center of Kiev should be in rubble and govenment is dead.

Yes, I'm sure the Ukrainian government is going to go stand out in the street and wait for the missiles to come.

They won't but the point is that Russia carefully avoids deleting any ukro-politician. And Putin just confirmed that this time will be again no different, only military industry sites in Kiev. It's really annoying.
It's even more annoying for Ukrainian opposition such as Sharij who survived two attempts by Kiev Regime.

This reminds me of the story about a drunk who picked a fight in a bar. After getting hit in the face a couple times and he's on the floor, yelling When I get up, I'm really going to kick your ass.

No one takes Russian threats of "really" kicking Ukraine's ass. Russia has done their worst and came up short. It's years and Ukraine is still standing, still punching Russia in the face. I know you have to repeat the party line, but no one believes Russia is doing so poorly in this war because they were practicing restraint.

cool, why then euro-monkeys are peddling Russia invading EU theory?
I actually agree, Russia did worst by not going after ukro-regime people.

Ukraine will be taking delivery of 16 Gripen fighter jets donated by Sweden. Thank you Sweden. Also Ukraine plunked down $2.5B for 20 of the newest model being built. These 20 new jets for all intents and purposes are paid for by Russia, technically secured with loan from the EU that only need be paid back once Russia pays reparations. So, yeah, thank you Russia.
Gripens can takeoff (400 m) and landing (500 m) from a very short snow covered strip and have a ten minute turn around time.

There's no sense in regretting not doing something that was never possible.
