The Wall

Any nation that doesn't control it's borders is no longer a nation but is what many on the left aspire to: a globalist fantasy utopia that's not possible for many reasons. One and the main one is independence!

Can you remind me again how many nations have walls separating themselves from their neighbors? That is a very tiny number in you pool of nations if walls are required to be considered one.

All nations do have enforceable borders though. Unfortunately for the idealist globalists! Any idea at all why the " Great Wall of China" was built?

Ever think about maybe valuing humane principles over manipulated animal brain fear? Just a thought.

So this:

is equivalent to Ghengis Khan? Honestly, what the fuck?

But a large minority who support trumpo and his hate will resent immigrants because immigrants are only here to steal their welfare checks.

Yes, they hate immigrants coming here and getting money from the government. That is why we are taking their children away... which the government will now have to house, feed, educate, see to their healthcare, pay guards to watch, etc., until they are adults because nobody tried to keep track of who their parents were. But its not 'welfare' so it is ok.

The Great Wall was actually a series of walls, none of which entirely sealed the border, and... they did fuck all to prevent invasion, let alone immigration (which China wasn't trying to stop anyway).

Like the US. The Mexican border is certainly a lot more fortified than the Canadian border. Certainly, terrorists would have a much easier time slipping through from up North, than down South. And lots of people go through and apply for asylum, at the manned crossings.

About the same reason as the Maginot Line, and about as effective.

Yes. We have enforceable borders... look on a map (not the one in Denny's under your plate of grits - an actual map). See those lines? They define various borders. Drive your car to one of those lines and see for yourself what goes into securing it. Try driving across one of those lines and back. Have you ever been to Mexico or Canada? I have. Have you even been more than 50 miles from the place you were born? like ever?
I don't know what an idealistic globalist is. do you, or is that just something you were trained to say in the context of "open borders"?
The Great Wall of China was built to keep the rampaging Mongolians out. Are the Mexicans seeking a life in the USA equivalent to the Mongolians seeking to conquer Ancient China? Is ancient technology the best means?

You would take down all the satellites, drones, electronic sensors, drug sniffing dogs... get rid of all that... because the only thing you want is a giant, ancient, stone wall. It sounds like you are the only one that actually wants "open boarders"... because if all you want is a wall then essentially "open borders" is all you will have.

Did you see all those Mexicans getting arrested at the border the other day? It was like over 100 of them. They scaled the ancient tech wall with some ancient tech.. a ladder. LA-DER.. its this piece of technology that was invented like a billion years ago that made walls obsolete even back then. You know how these invaders got caught? with fucking DRONES... that is technology... that is the USA... not ancient Chinese secret.. modern-day technology leadership.

LA-Der. Ladder. Hmm. I suppose Trump might have seen one at one of his resorts being used by his undocumented immigrant employees. But I expect that Trump has never actually used one himself. So a ladder may not be on his radar screen. Much like how he has never actually gone to the grocery store given that he seems to think that people need to present an ID to buy groceries.

Fun fact: Australia has a huge fucking moat around its border, and it doesn't stop asylum seekers. How effective do you think a wall is going to be?

What nation in existence today has no control at all over its borders?
The Schengen agreement nations (26 nations, most but not all of which are also members of the EU) have no border controls at all between them.

Also Ireland has only one land border (with the United Kingdom; despite both being in the EU, neither is a Schengen nation), and that border is completely uncontrolled, at least for now.

Switzerland and Lichtenstein are non-EU nation states completely surrounded by EU countries, and they have no border controls at any of their land borders.
What nation in existence today has complete and total control over its borders?
North Korea probably comes the closest.
We should use those examples to inform our investment in border security. If neither case exists, then what do you suggest the country do?

That depends whether you want to live in a country that's more like North Korea; or one that's more like The Netherlands, Switzerland, Germany or Sweden (or any of the other Schengen nations).

I think a lot of people in the U.S., maybe about 30% even, actually would like our country to be like North Korea. It's nice and secure and safe from all those evil socialist countries. Who wouldn't like that?

Nope, right wing authoritarian disease is not at all based in animal brain fear aggression. Not at all. :)

Seems to me that about the same percentage believe there's only two options when it comes to borders:

1. A big beautiful wall from sea to shining sea (but only on the border with the brown country, of course).

2. A completely open border with clearly marked trails and giant signs that say "drugs, rapists, and murderers welcome!"

There's a great documentary series on Netflix called "Dirty Money." I just watched the episode called Cartel Bank, which covers how HSBC laundered close to a billion dollars for drug cartels and terrorists.

There's a scene in the episode that's an aerial shot of one of the border crossings between El Paso Texas and Juarez Mexico. A crossing I've been through many times. They note that there's a long line of vehicles waiting to be inspected on their way into the US. Makes sense, because most drugs come through ports of entry. The other side of the highway? A vastly smaller stream of vehicles swiftly crossing into Juarez. The old saying in crime fighting goes "follow the money." That's where you'd be if you did that. The massive amount of cash that allows the cartels to keep operating flows through those crossings and a wall out in the middle of the desert won't stop a single dollar.

What are you, some kind of pinko librul communist? Every real american knows when this wall goes up all our problems go away. I live with lots of such folk and they all know this wall will keep out all the drugs and rapists.

So there.

So Trump is going to sign that bill with $1.4B for the wall and....... declare emergency so he can get more for the wall.
Hilarious!

As an issue that caused a government shutdown, was a key election platform and created such chicken little incidents like this one, this has got to be the most casual laid back emergency I have ever seen.

Ever think about maybe valuing humane principles over manipulated animal brain fear? Just a thought.

You wish to turn millions of years of evolution on it's head is naive at best, absurd and anti humanity at worst. Give a man a fish he will eat for a day. Teach the man to fish, and you solve his problem of hunger.

Fun fact: Australia has a huge fucking moat around its border, and it doesn't stop asylum seekers. How effective do you think a wall is going to be?

That depends on which political party happens to be in power. While a combination of socialists parties were in power 5.6 years ago, the moat was no deterrent at all as over 50.000 illegal immigrants ferried across the moat by people smugglers, which also resulted in around 1200 deaths at sea proved.
But when another party won the ensuing election on the promise of " stopping the boats" and getting rid of a carbon tax. The boats were stopped, by tough measures such as turning boats around to where they embarked from. In fact it was such a success [to the dismay of the watermelons ] that some European countries beseeched by hundreds of boatloads of economic immigrants seeking the best welfare states to bludge off, admitted and are now implementing the boat turnaround tactictic themselves.

So Trump is going for the National Emergency. He's been outplayed by Pelosi already, and she has a few viable paths (court, House resolution based on existing National Emergency Powers law that must be voted on by the Senate to take with Trump's dubious idea. I know SCOTUS won't want to touch this with a 1,000,000 AU long pole.

Except off of Newfoundland, where they over fished the Cod into extinction.

And whatever Trump does, if it succeeds, that sets a nice precedent for the next Democrat president.
Maybe make Global Warming a national emergency. Or healthcare.
