Police Misconduct Catch All Thread

Rep. Ocasio-Cortez on Instagram: “White supremacist infiltration of law enforcement”
In a subcommittee hearing on the white supremacist infiltration of law enforcement, @RepAOC said that the question is no longer "if" white supremacy has infiltrated police departments, but how we handle this long-existing problem. In 2015, a classified FBI Counterterrorism Policy Guide noted that “militia extremists, white supremacist extremists, and sovereign citizen extremists often have identified active links to law enforcement officers.” To help address this issue, the House passed the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act, which would: (1) enhance the Department of Justice’s capability to initiate pattern and practice investigations into police misconduct; (2) make it easier to prosecute police officers for misconduct; (3) create a nationwide police misconduct registry to prevent problematic officers from being rehired. This bill now awaits a vote in the Senate.
AOC said that one shouldn't think that it is necessarily a feature of individual cops, but of broader systems, like rewarding cops for how many people they catch for minor offenses, and what people are to be considered worth policing for such offenses.

AOC questioned some people in this hearing, and she got testimony that cops are rarely prosecuted for misconduct.

Some DHS misconduct.

Internal document shows Trump officials were told to make comments sympathetic to Kyle Rittenhouse

In prepping DHS officials for questions about Rittenhouse, the document suggests they say he took a gun to Kenosha "to help defend small business owners."

An internal Department of Homeland Security document instructed federal law enforcement officers to make public comments sympathetic to Kyle Rittenhouse, the 17-year-old who has been charged with murder for shooting two protesters in Kenosha, Wisconsin. The talking points suggest officers note that Rittenhouse “took his rifle to the scene of the rioting to help defend small business owners” and that he was “seen being chased and attacked by rioters before allegedly shooting three of them, killing two.”

A former Homeland Security official called the document “as unprecedented as it is wrong.” It was bad enough that right-wing pundits and Fox News hosts praised Rittenhouse for his deadly vigilantism; now federal officials are being instructed in government documents to go to bat for him. We don’t know if the document originated with the White House or DHS leadership, but Trump has repeatedly defended Rittenhouse before and, as we all saw on Tuesday, refused to disavow right-wing militias and white supremacy. I fear we have not yet seen the end of the violence Trump is happily stoking.

Police officer charged with murder in shooting of Black man at gas station

The cops story said:
Lucas responded to a disturbance call about a possible fight at about 8:24 p.m., according to the statement. Lucas "attempted to detain Price, who resisted in a non-threatening posture and began walking away," the statement said.

Lucas, 22, used a stun gun before shooting Price, the Texas Rangers said. Price was taken to a hospital where he died.

the other side of the story said:
An attorney for Price's family, Lee Merritt, has said that the incident began when Price noticed a man assaulting a woman at a Kwik Chek gas station.

"When police arrived, I'm told, he raised his hands and attempted to explain what was going on," Merritt said Sunday. "Police fired tasers at him and when his body convulsed from the electrical current, they 'perceived a threat' and shot him to death."

The investigation said:
"The preliminary investigation indicates that the actions of Officer Lucas were not objectionably reasonable," the Texas Rangers said. He was arrested, booked into the Hunt County Jail and charged with murder.

Walter Wallace, the dead guy, had a deadly weapon (knife) and was advancing toward officers. Justified shooting.

What is not justified is the rioting and looting. Those responsible should be arrested and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
What Philadelphia needs is the second coming of Frank Rizzo. And also a competent DA willing to prosecute crime and not that fauxgressive embarrassment Krasner.

 That's exactly the same as very real, actual, already-committed violence and national security threat of white supremacists and the PRESIDENT for fuck's sake who eggs them on.
That's what these "assessments" keep saying while #BLM and Antifas loot more businesses and burn more cities just because a thug with a knife got himself shot. Smfh.

Derec, imagine that it was some white nationalist coming at some black cops with a knife. Would you defend the cops shooting him?

Yes, I would.

I am not in favor of white nationalists. Why are youbin favor of black thugs who may or may not be black nationalists?
