Impeachment II thread

McConnell today:

The last time the Senate convened we had just reclaimed the Capitol from violent criminals who tried to stop Congress from doing our duty. The mob was fed lies. They were provoked by the president and other powerful people. And they tried to use fear and violence to stop a specific proceeding of the first branch of the federal government which they did not like.

I'd call that a good sign for his vote.

That's a good indicator that the GOP has the votes to convict.

There is always room for a "but...".

Another good sign.

GOP leaders skip Trump sendoff in favor of church with Biden - Axios

Congressional leaders, including House GOP leader Kevin McCarthy and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, will skip President Trump's departure ceremony in Maryland tomorrow morning in favor of attending mass with incoming President Joe Biden ahead of his inauguration, congressional sources familiar with their plans tell Axios.

Trump is planning some kind of event tomorrow with an audience at Andrews.

CNN says Pence is also not going to Trump's thing.

This. Mitch doesn't lead as much as he moves to stay standing in front of the pack. If word in the offices is "Convict!", Mitch'll wave that banner high.

"We are to have a robust discussion and seek common ground". Mitch McConnell :hysterical:

Sit yo 5$ ass down before I make change! We all know how much common ground you sought over the last 4 years.

The common ground he sought was the commonalities of the battleground; of the graveyard.

Either that or McConnell has been replaced by a clone that is controlled by top Dems Biden, Harris, Pelosi, and Schumer. I mean, who knows for sure.

I'm not SAYING McConnell has been replaced by a clone, but people are talking, and some people, some very smart people, are concerned that he might have been replaced by a clone, and these people, these American people, there're a lot of them, and their voices need to be heard. We should take biopsies, several, and have independent analysis confirm if Mitch is human, or a very good replica.
A pound of flesh should be sufficient.

Trump invited all kinds of people to his going away party, even Anthony Scaramucci. No one is showing up.

And he wanted a big military parade, with a 21 gun salute. The DOD said sorry, but no.

Plus, there is so much misinformation out there that there's really no way to tell what's true or not, so we have no choice but go with whatever seems most true to us, and it seems pretty obvious that McConnell has been replaced by a clone. Plus I saw a video about it on Youtube. Research complete!

So when do you think they’ll get the trial started? Next week? Or Next month?

Predictions on the final vote? I’m going to guess 92-8 to convict and bar from office. Hawley, cotton, Cruz, two fascist fucks from Mississippi, Tuberville, and I’m sure he’ll find two others whom I’m not sure of yet.

Everybody else in the Republican Party will see this as the opportunity to be rid of Trump once and for all.

I think Mitch was smart to delay and the Democrats should support it, because the more time that goes by the more information about how bad Trump was behind closed doors might see the light of day and the more distance some of the Senators will have from him. They won't have to convict an active President of their own party. The only hope that Trump has is the idea that you can't convict a President no longer in office and he gets off on a technicality.

To my knowledge delaying a trial more often works in favor of the defendant. I'm not sure why, however. A delay of only a month seems inconsequential.

Mitch delayed so the Dems were in charge of the Senate, not the GOP, so he can say 'it was out of his hands'. Granted, he could have put it to an immediate vote and vote against conviction too.

Regardless, McConnell fears Trump less than Trump's base. And the base is insane and will obfuscate any reality into their warped mindset.

Trump's spell may well fade pretty fast once he looks impotent. His pouting will look dumber and dumber as it's clear how feckless it is. But what do I know, I have always found him nauseating and cheesy. Could never imagine how anyone could admire such an annoying prick. Plus he has those orange eyelashes that look just like a piggy's.

The problem I see is more that some sizable base of the republican party, ostensibly many of them holding at least a highschool education, believe that democrats are raping children and killing them and selling their adrenal glands.

When you can believe something like that, when your own faction can't even keep their run-of-the-mill terrorist plots secret, there is no hope. Hell, Epstein couldn't even keep his pedophile operation secret, and he had leverage over some of the most powerful people in the world.

He's ever looked potent? I don't think a guy who can actually get a hard-on would brag about all the sex he's having. That's such a give away for an impotent fuck.

People continue to confuse Trump with the disease. Trump took advantage of the disease that has rendered so much of the Republican Party as hyper-partisan and potentially even despotic. Pompeo made with a very frightening statement.
Sec of State said:
Woke-ism, multiculturalism, all the -isms — they're not who America is. They distort our glorious founding and what this country is all about. Our enemies stoke these divisions because they know they make us weaker.
The imagery keeps getting darker and darker. Pompeo was some nobody Representative, that shot to the run the CIA for a moment and then became Secretary of State. They just keep coming out of the woodwork. The Millers and Pompeos are finding themselves with disproportionate levels of power despite their lack of aptitudes and experience. They and the base aren't going away, only Trump is.

Pompeo's statement was a KKK'esque declaration that this Nazi like populism isn't going anywhere. Gov. Noem's statement seems to make a declaration of purity.
Gov. Noem said:
We have an opportunity to address the root cause of this problem: we must reform young Americans' civic education.
Hitler youth, anyone? No... not Godwin. This is disturbing imagery. She wasn't saying people marching into the Capitol needed to be taught Civics. What were Civics needed to teach? Our responsibility to each other and our nation, like President Kennedy stated (to wear a mask?). No.
Gov. Noem said:
{The US} is the most unique nation in the history of the world
The question I had was, after Trump, can we go back... and the answer is clearly not. There is an ugly white protestant nationalist movement on-going, that actually tried to overturn our 2020 election. And this movement, which lost (by not so much in 2020) is telling us, they aren't going anywhere.

It belays an unspoken perceived weakness in the plaintiff's case.
