California Doing California Things

The freeway was shut down because they were firing artillery over it, and the CHP requested a closure.

You are so quick to defend this shit.

Trump plays Newsom like a fiddle.
Trump plays YOU like a fiddle... And it looks like you're into it.

We're not. Take a hint.

There is something wrong with Newsom, he really is bonkers.

Newsom shut down a 17-mile stretch of Interstate 5 between Los Angeles and San Diego in response to the move, which caused mass gridlock on the highway on Saturday.

Daily Mail

He shut down the freeway because of some army exercises at Camp Pendleton. A totally unnecessary gesture.
Story Summary
  • A 15-mile stretch of Interstate 5 in Southern California was shut down for a U.S. Marine Corps demonstration.
  • The event, commemorating the Marines' 250th anniversary, was attended by Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of War Pete Hegseth.
  • California Gov. Gavin Newsom criticized the White House-directed event, calling it an "absurd show of force" that risked public safety.
A major southern California highway was shut down for a U.S. Marine Corps demonstration on Oct. 18. The event pitted California Gov. Gavin Newsom against the federal government yet again.

Interstate 5 shut down from Harbor Drive to Basilone Road, a stretch of the main artery over 15 miles, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. local time, according to the California Highway Patrol. Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of War Pete Hegseth attended the event at Camp Pendleton, commemorating the Marines' 250th anniversary.

You don't think a historically unprecedented live artillery exercise arcing over the state's busiest freeway is an event worthy of gubernatorial comment? Or you just don't think Newsom should be permitted to criticize the President?

What part of “insufferable” do you not understand??1!2

If Newsom has any to say he should be questioning why the he’ll 15 miles of freeway was closed, was it warranted, why was it closed, what was the actual risks. But no, he stuns his mouth off. Insufferable prick,

Who would he ask about that, exactly? The California Highway Patrol, perhaps?

Shooting artillery over a heavily populated civilian area is always risky. What if one shell had fallen short?

It was stupid and dangerous and one of the most irresponsible decisions by Trump ever.

Trump would claim that it was violence from the "No Kings" demonstration and send more thugs to "keep order".
Ya know, lie.

Or accidentally detonated prematurely, directly over the freeway, perhaps?

Artillery Shell Detonated Over Interstate 5 During Marines’ Celebration, California Officials Say

"A 155-millimeter shell fired during a live-fire demonstration for the 250th anniversary of the Marine Corps at Camp Pendleton on Saturday prematurely detonated, dropping fragments of the shell on a California Highway Patrol vehicle and motorcycle that were part of Vice President JD Vance’s protective detail, according to a patrol report.

....

According to the patrol report, one officer described what sounded like pebbles hitting his motorcycle and the area around him, and two others saw a two-inch piece of shrapnel hit the hood of their patrol vehicle, leaving a small dent. The report says shrapnel was also found on the road near the motorcycle."

Luckily, the CHP had already closed the freeway, so no one was hurt, but I would like to observe that the weapons demonstration was not, in fact, safe, and that only a Trump-addled fool would consider it such. To the ones who need to hear it, this will be "fake news", I am sure. Or they are about to pretend that they don't think falling metal shrapnel constitutes a safety risk to a busy freeway. The incident actually resulted in the immediate termination of the exercise, which was originally supposed to involve 60 such shells.

You know, the Marines used to bill themselves as the "best of the best", but with all the mishaps they have experienced lately, I'm starting to wonder whether they are having some recruitment trouble. Like, this wasn't a war zone, they had months to prepare for this. Why are they losing artillery shells?
