Climate Change(d)?

Prof Mark Maslin, a climatologist at University College London, said: “Trump may slow down the transition away from fossil fuels and allow other countries to delay action. But the writing is on the wall both politically and economically for fossil fuels. It is when, not if, fossil fuels cease to be used as an energy source.”

Another delusional "climatologist". Demand for fossil fuels is increasing and there is not a thing that will be done to stop the demand being met,

It is a catastrophic 75 degrees in Santa Monica today.
Doesn't mean he's wrong. We are just playing lemming. (Not that lemmings actually behave like the stereotype.)

Addiction? Frankenstein? This man is bonkers.
The use of metaphor and/or simile does not currently feature as a defining symptom for a diagnosis of "bonkers" in DSM-5.

You should write to the American Psychiatric Association, and ask them to include it in the Sixth Edition.

If you're lucky, doing so might get you a free, long term tour of one of their secure facilities.

And there may be worse to come.
It can only get so bad, unless the wealthy ramp up the import of fire fuel to the area.
The wealthy classes did exactly that in California! Up until the 19th century the coastal regions weren't nearly flammable enough to burn down catastrophically on any sort of regular basis, so our ancestors in their brilliance clear cut all the naturally fire resistant redwoods, ironwoods, standing ferns, and bunch grasses, and replaced them with imported gum trees and decorative riparians that are basically very tall matchbooks. They also killed nearly everyone in the state who knew anything about local fire risk management in massive, sweeping genocides. From a risk assessment perspective, 19th century California was not exactly a high point in the history of "planning ahead for things".
The native scrub oak burns with incredible intensity.
Quercus berberidifolia. Handsome little bush. Popular with cute little animals. Does burn. Not known to be the cause of many wildfires, but can be an accelerant.

Yeah. When I lived in Montecito there were fires all up behind Santa Barbara. Once it gets going in vertical territory with wind, it’s pretty terrifying.

President Donald Trump will withdraw the United States from the Paris climate deal, the White House said on Monday. The announcement is part of Trump's broader agenda to boost U.S. oil and gas production, and to 'drill baby drill!' America's second withdrawal is likely to take less time, perhaps as little as a year, because Trump will not be bound by the deal's initial three-year commitment.

Good news indeed.
Scorching commentary.

Trump is reducing government spending including FEMA. We have to get people off of governmntt assistance, don't we? Who wants their tax dollars rebuilding expensive Ca homes with a view? Right?

Maybe all the burned out land will go up for auction, cheap. It will be a land investment bonanza.

God bless Trump and the oligarchs, I am sure you agree, right?

Nothing more beautiful for the freedom of the common man than the incoming president flanked by the four or five guys that own pretty much everything, most importantly that control a huge amount of information and curate algorithms that dictate what the majority of people consume. We must give them what little is left of our money so they can save us from woke.

Yeah, people forget stuff real fast. If you buy a piece of scorched earth for 10% of its November value, build a house out of timber framing with a shake roof and wait five years, the only hint that you might be sitting on a pyre* will be your insurance rates.

* assuming it hasn’t already burned again

Is there a free on-line edition of DSM-5? I couldn't find one last I looked.

IIUC the diagnoses change greatly from one version of DSM to the next. Is this due to improvements in psychѬஇଅic science? Or is the human race just getting more ... psychѬஇଅic?

As I expected Trump is threatening to withhold disaster aid to Ca,

We took up an enormous amount of real estate in his first official interview. It drives him fucking insane that the richest US state doesn't buy his bullshit.

As we learn more about how the mind and body work we find that things that weren't correctly categorized. Consider Asperger's vs autism--DSM IV treated them as separate, DSM V recognizes that they are simply degrees of the same thing, but also limits it to the people that it manifests in multiple ways, giving the single-symptom people separate categories. Likewise ADD isn't distinct from ADHD, but ADHD is split into -H and -I manifestations.

Smoke from the recent Los Angeles wildfires poses a host of well-known human health risks, particularly to the heart and lungs systems. And as climate change fuels longer wildfire seasons, concerns over smoke exposure and the health threats of fires are growing. But the effects of air pollution on the brain are only beginning to be widely recognized.

In a recent study, researchers found that long-term exposure to fine particulate matter, also known as PM2.5, was linked to an increased risk of dementia. But not all air pollution carries the same risk.
Wildfire smoke appears to be especially hazardous, according to Joan Casey, the study’s lead author, adding that the findings highlight the link between climate change and negative neurological consequences.

The study analyzed the health records of more than 1.2 million Southern California residents who were at least 60 years old and lived in areas routinely exposed to wildfire smoke. Each resident was free of dementia when the study began. Researchers then estimated each person’s exposure to PM2.5 based on three-year air-quality and weather-data averages.

By the end of the study, more than 80,000 residents had been diagnosed with dementia. Older adults who were exposed to higher levels of wildfire PM2.5 had an elevated risk of developing dementia. Non-wildfire PM2.5 exposure only slightly increased the odds of a dementia diagnosis.

But, what would scientists who study the impact of climate science know? /s. Read the rest if you want, it's not behind a pay wall.

*yawn* Climate change has not "fueled longer wildfire seasons". The latest wildfires in Los Angeles/Altadena and most other locations in SoCal are fueled by humans, mainly power lines that spark and ignite the vegetation below. In any event, since insufferable prick governor Newsom is a firm believer that climate change is a huge factor in the cause of these wildfires why has he done nothing to prevent mitigation of these devastating fires?

But, what would scientists who study the impact of climate science know? /s. Read the rest if you want, it's not behind a pay wall.

Another bogus study.

It really is a religion for you. You want it to be true so badly that you will cling to any half baked theory. You really are no better than the ignorant people that flock to see televangelists like Joel Olsteen and hang on to every word they spout.

Anyway, it is a catastrophic 50f today but the climate change will increase the temperature to an ocean boiling 60f in the afternoon!!

I'm sorry that all that smoke in your area seems to be infecting your brain, since you seem to think that you know more than the scientists who do these studies. Why is that? Perhaps you might consider getting away for awhile to a place where the air is cleaner. I sure would if I lived in a place that had a lot of wildfires. That smoke is obviously not good for you. It's quite obvious from many of your posts, that it's keeping you from understanding basic science.

Oh, and it's not what sparks the fires that is concerning. it's the intensity of the fires and how difficult it is to control them. Get it?
