Climate changes naturally, and is variable. It also changes in response to human caused drivers, such as the CO₂ level going from 280 to 427ppm - a 53% increase - since the Industrial Revolution. That increase is not a mystery; We burned a lot of coal that was laid down during the carboniferous era, and have thereby begun to reverse the changes to atmospheric composition that occured at that time.

The “scientists” are claiming we are living through an existential threat of climate breakdown, tipping points and other boogeymen.

These are not boogeymen, they are genuine and plausible concerns. The fact is that we are not certain about exactly what will happen, but given that it is certain that it is happening extremely fast - far faster than any other non-catastrophic episode of climatic change in Earth's history - it is highly unreasonable to expect that nothing bad will happen.

Literally every single time that the Earth's atmosphere has experienced change this rapid, the result has been mass extinctions.

To expect a different outcome this time would be perverse.
