Climate Change(d)?

TSwizzle

You are not repeating yourself, you are babbling nonsense.

You (I think it was you) posted about Tehran running out of water because of climate change. That is false and you accuse me of babbling nonsense?!

Do you believe bacteria exist and can cause disease, infection, and death?

ffs, just stop with this nonsense.
Prosecutor: Your honor, the question goes to the credibility, competence, and bias of the witness.

Judge: Objection over ruled, the wittiness will answer the questions.

TSwizzle: I refuse to answer on the grouds of self incrimination.

He has claimed climate scientists (and people who accept human-caused climate change is happening) are part of an "End Times cult" despite the fact that it's established science human-caused climate change is happening,

This is not a fact in evidence. I should not have to keep repeating that climate changes naturally and is variable but here I am again having to repeat it.
You're a lot like the Creationists who keep asking for transitional fossils. You're also a lot like the Creationists who pretend the speed of light wasn't constant in the past and somehow slowed down. You're doing the same thing with the second law of thermodynamics right now, but if you knew basic physics you'd realize that.

It is, you just don't want to look at the evidence.
I should not have to keep repeating that climate changes naturally and is variable
You shouldn't and don't. Literally nobody here is unaware of this irrelevant fact. That you feel the need to repeat it, stems from your failure to grasp it's utter irrelevance to the topic at hand.
but here I am again having to repeat it.
No, you could just assume (correctly) that everyone here already knows.

Climate changes naturally, and is variable. It also changes in response to human caused drivers, such as the CO2 level going from 280 to 427ppm - a 53% increase - since the Industrial Revolution. That increase is not a mystery; We burned a lot of coal that was laid down during the carboniferous era, and have thereby begun to reverse the changes to atmospheric composition that occured at that time.
and that the vast majority of scientists are not claiming "the world's going to end!" due to climate change.

The “scientists” are claiming we are living through an existential threat of climate breakdown, tipping points and other boogeymen.
These are not boogeymen, they are genuine and plausible concerns. The fact is that we are not certain about exactly what will happen, but given that it is certain that it is happening extremely fast - far faster than any other non-catastrophic episode of climatic change in Earth's history - it is highly unreasonable to expect that nothing bad will happen.

Literally every single time that the Earth's atmosphere has experienced change this rapid, the result has been mass extinctions.

To expect a different outcome this time would be perverse.
It is male bovine excrement and is a religion for you.
You should give that advice to the guy in your mirror.

Your problem seems to be that you don't want climate change to be a problem; You don't care to listen to anyone who calmly and scientifically shows that it is a problem; And you do like to listen to the handful of shrill extremeists whose hyperbole you can identify as hyperbolic, and which you incorrectly presume is the entire argument - not because it is the entire argument, but because if it were, you would get the outcome you want.

Reality doesn't give a shit what anyone wants; It just happens to you whether you like it or not.

Play stupid games (such as burning all the coal, oil, and gas); Win stupid prizes (such as a planet no longer able to support a modern, hi-tech, comfortable society; Nor to support anywhere close to eight billion humans).

That's not hyperbole, it's a clearly descernible and easily predictable future state for our planet, unless we rapidly stabilise atmospheric CO2.

We gotta leave the rest of the coal in the ground, and find an energy source of similar cost, and similar reliability, that does not emit CO2.

Fortunately, we found one in the 1950s.

Unfortunately, a bunch of ageing hippies and shrill extremeists don't want us to use it.

You know his bullshit is also similar to when theists say "why can't it just be god's design?" every time evidence against intelligent design is brought up.

I have faith that in the long run in science truth always wins out, shown historically.

Not when you have activist “scientists” pushing their own agendas.
He is talking about scientists, not “scientists”.
Sure, Jan.

Yes, I am familiar with his posting history. I've been here 21 years.

By the by, I do not agree with TSwizzle with respect to Climate Change. Nor do I agree with most of what he says. I just don't get the sense that he's stupid. And by that I mean I don't think he's lacking intelligence. I see plenty of reasons why you all are so fed up with him, however.

Sorry I'm being such an insufferable prick, but it is what it is.

His problem is if he acknowledges any undersigning of the greenhouse effect of the atmosphere his whole anti cellmate change position falls apart.

He refuses to answer to the simple analogy between a backyard greenhouse and the atmosphere. There is plenty of information on it on the net.

You have a constitutional right to be an insufferable prick.

I’m not saying he is “stupid” but whatever he is (troll, uneducated, just having a laugh, or whatever) he is demonstrably not open to a good faith discussion of the topic, just apparently mindless droning of simplistic platitudes and irrelevancies.

I’m sure this post will just receive a roll eyes emoji or a “sure, Jan” just like all the rest. I’m honestly surprised anyone here is still attempting to engage.

I said a long time ago that I would sooner talk to Christians about the science of miracles or the resurrection than discuss the climate catastrophe with the religious zealots on here.

But he is correct. He is not discussing it with religious zealots here.

You disagree that the earth’s climate changes naturally and is variable? :consternation2:
And yet again yes there are natural changes and variations.

However they do not account for the rapid warming and climate change we obs

Which natural variation is today causing sea levels to rise?

I am sure you think you are being clever with your quip above.

You are not really discussing anything, you are claiming climate science is wrong without providing any evidence to support your claim.

As you are not really discussing and you have nothing to offer but ad homs and propaganda
perhaps you should go and talk to Christians.

I'll say one thing for Christians who have come to the forum to discuss science and religion, they usually come well prepared to make and support argumnts.

You could learn from them.

If you want to discus the history of how civilizations fail sometimes quickly and catastrophically we can go over to history or social science. Are we and liberal democracies repeating the histori9cal pattern of rise, success, and failure?

I think we may be.

An update ....

Tswizzle’s repetitious quotable quotes. They provide profound insight into why climate change science is all wrong.

1. This obsession with carbon really needs to stop.
2. This obsession with CO2 is coming to an end.
3. Teh Gruaniad says
4. It is a catastrophic 75 degrees today.
5. He’s a cultist.It is a catastrophic 73 degrees in Santa Monica today
6. It really is a rapture like cult.
7. It really is a religion for you.
8 You are dumber than I thought
9. Climate always changes.
10. Human activity has very little impact on the climate compared to what occurs naturally.
11. CO2 does not control the earth’s climate.
12. Net Zero is sold as the only thing that will save the planet from the climate apocalypse
13. I’d rather discuss science with Christians
14, Climate change is propaganda pushed by politicians and activists.
15. Scientists are climate atavists, ergo climate science is wrong,
16.

Rev 6

I wonder if he is getting his one liners from a web site.

Seek and ye shall find

Websites that promote views contrary to the mainstream scientific consensus on climate change often question the causes, extent, or urgency of global warming, with many having received funding from fossil fuel interests
.
Organizations identified as sources of such content include:

American Enterprise Institute (AEI)
Americans for Prosperity (AFP)
American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC)
Cato Institute
Competitive Enterprise Institute (CEI)

Institute for Energy Research (IER)
Manhattan Institute for Policy Research

Other identified websites and related online sources include:

CO2 Coalition
Climate Depot
Climate Etc
Climate Realists networks (including sites like Clima et Verité, Climato-Réalistes, etc., which are often part of a larger European network)

Then why don't you do that. Nobody is forcing you to stay here giving eye rolls and making idiotic posts. Seriously, why are you here if you don't even want to try to understand the human impact of climate change? It's your close mindedness to scientific evidence that is problem. That is why you remind us of religious extremists. Like you, they can't handle the truth.

There are tons of information on science sites that explain exactly how human activity has influenced rabid changes in the climate. What once took thousands of years is now happening in decades, so why don't you go away and let the rest of those who want to discuss this issue do so without your ignorant responses and eye rolls.

Did I earn an eye roll for this post? . Maybe we should have a contest to see who can get the most eye rolls.
