Covid-19 miscellany

He does have something of a point--there are a lot of extremely low protection masks people use, including some which are actually worse than useless. Mask mandates should be surgical or higher, not merely face covering.

Yes and I still see assholes using valve masks even though they are banned as a mask in this context in massachusetts.

I'd never wish death on anyone but in this place in history, the Death by Covid of multiple prominent and high profile anti-mask, anti-vaccine morons could save thousands or hundreds of thousands of lives.

I wonder how many lives would be saved if DeSandis were to die of Covid.

I have a valved mask but the kn95 grade filters cover the valve too.

There are a LOT of those…
Texas has seen nearly 9,000 COVID-19 deaths since February. All but 43 were unvaccinated people.

Or if Trump had. Or had had the guts to make his vaccination
public. Or had actually listened to scientists and not tried to corrupt the CDC or promoted false narratives or fake treatments…..

GOP Congressman, Ralph Norman of SC who’s suing Speaker Pelosi over his $500 fine for not wearing a mask has tested positive for COVID.

Well here’s a twist.

Denmark has reached 75% vaccinated. It has a 20% anti-vaxxer rate. I think we've hit maximum possible vaccination here.

Similar for Sweden, with a vaccination rate of 65%. While they have about as many anti-vaxxers as Denmark they have way more who have had Covid already. This group is less likely to get vaccinated.

I think we're hitting the roof in Europe of what is possible when it comes to prevention.

In this situation it makes no sense to continue lock downs and mitigation strategies, no matter how fast Delta spreads.

This is possibly true in some areas and not true in others, depending upon stopping excess deaths from hospital overflow. So, if it is an area being hit hard, and it is predicted hospitals will become full, then it would make sense to reduce that risk and therefore the excess deaths. Similarly, those numbers are averages and so there may be particular regions where the vaccination rate is considerably lower and that may warrant more mitigation to prevent a wholesale outbreak and loss of functioning healthcare for everyone.

One would think these types of scenarios are not a majority of regions. For example, in the US, we're up to 70% vaccinated. But that is a national statistic. Arkansas is a very Republican state. Only 48% of Arkansas citizens of vaccination age have at least one dose. They also made a law to ban mask mandates in smaller localities, schools, etc. ICUs are full in this small state. They've got over 1200 people in hospitals with covid which is a lot for this state with little resources. That's how Republicans roll, you know. Now the Republicans are regretting their political stupidity.

Months after he signed the bill banning state and local mask mandates, Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson says he wants the law reversed to give schools the option to require face coverings when children return to the classroom.

"In hindsight, I wish that it had not become law. But it is the law, and the only chance we have is either to amend it or for the courts to say that it has an unconstitutional foundation," he said at a Tuesday news conference.

Hutchinson has called a special session for the state legislature to change the law. During the news conference, he and Secretary of Health Jose Romero stressed that children under 12 are currently the most vulnerable group in the state because they are unable to get the vaccine.

Menards home improvement stores has implemented a new vaccine policy. Get vaccinated. If you get ill from the side effects you get paid time off. If you are unvaccinated and you get covid you are fired.

"We can ALL learn from this, and we MUST battle this in every single city, every single county, every single state, every single NATION!"

Every single state? An odd thing for a Canadian to say.

Burning questions that I have are this:

Do the antibodies (and other immune response) created from the muscular injection of the vaccine reach the nasal cavities at all? If not, was this known during the clinical trials?

For a natural infection by covid, either by vaxxed or non vaxxed, is there an immune response groundwork being laid in the upper respiratory system that is NOT done by the vaccination response?

Will a previously infected person exposed to delta have a lower load in their nasal passage than one who was vaxxed but not infected?

If this is not being found out AT THIS POINT that is totally crazy and negligent!

Will nasal vaccines do what our response to the virus already does, but the current vaccines do not?

I think that this is good news, the current vaccines will almost stop all serious illness and nasal vaccines MIGHT be able to stop transmission.
