Texas House wants to use federal COVID relief funds to send out $525 checks — but only to homeowners

Texas Republicans want to use billions in federal pandemic relief to send checks to homeowners just ahead of next year’s November elections — and call it property tax relief.

House lawmakers are pushing a proposal that would put $525 checks in the mailboxes of some 5.7 million homeowners who claim a homestead exemption — by tapping $3 billion sent to the state under the federal American Rescue Plan Act, the $1.9 trillion stimulus bill aimed at pandemic relief.

Senate Bill 1, which passed out of the House on Friday afternoon, is a roundabout way for Republican legislators to deliver on a longtime pet issue — property tax relief — without running afoul of a federal rule barring the use of stimulus dollars for tax cuts.

The checks would arrive no later than Sept. 1 — about a month before voters head to the polls next year for early voting in the November midterm elections. Dick Lavine, senior fiscal analyst with the liberal-leaning Every Texan, blasted the proposal as a “transparent political ploy.”

Texas can eat a barrel of dicks. A bag isn't enough.

Remember, they're big down there on the 72 oz. steak, the one that's free if you eat it all. You can't miss the billboards for it. I'd rather they eat a Trump Tartare, made from his Orangeness's big fat ass, but a) it's probably 572 oz., b) there just aint enought onions 'n' capers to get you past the slightly-turned flavor, and c) you'd run out of Imodium-AD. I'm not advocating murder, understand. Cannibalism, yes, but not murder. This is after the coronary, if Trump has donated his ass to (culinary) science.

The "mask" such as it is, allows almost completely unrestricted breathing while still complying with the farcical mask mandate.

Eh, there are cheaper options.

He also had multiple myeloma, which is made him immunocompromised. Due to his age and his medical condition, he was still at high risk for COVID.

I read an article the other day that said that vaccinated grandparents were at higher risk of death compared to non vaccinated children. I'm over 70, but healthy, but I still wear a mask when inside public places and I avoid large crowds, as the COVID vaccine is highly effective but not 100% effective.

I had my flu vaccine 2 weeks ago. Flu vaccines are usually about 40-50% effective, but I've never gotten the flu during the decades of flu seasons that I've been exposed to, so I do believe that my vaccine helped protect me from getting the flu.

Kyrie Irving picking an odd hill to fight for.
article said:
Speaking about the issue on Instagram Live on Wednesday, Irving said: "Do what's best for you, but I am not an advocate for either side.

"I am doing what's best for me.

"I know the consequences here, and if it means that I'm judged and demonised for that, that's just what it is, that's the role I play."
Actually, in not getting vaccinated, you are an advocate for Covid-19. That is the truth, not demonization.

He's a flat-earther "do your own research" type, like this guy,

Flat Earth advocate, anti-vaxxer dies of COVID: report - New York Daily News

Rob Skiba — said to have come home from a Christian-centric Take On The World conference in August not feeling well — was also a COVID vaccine skeptic, the Daily Beast reports. It was from that conference he allegedly posted a message on Facebook noting that “within I’d say 2 to 3 years or so” we’ll know whether vaccines were a solution or a problem.

“Truly, I take no joy in saying this, nor will I if I’m the one still standing,” he wrote.

I wonder whether he finally figured out who was right during the several weeks he was on a ventilator lying in a hospital bed. Doubtful.

They're the people claiming it's all about freedom, but really they're the actual anti-freedom authoritarians in all this.

Round the clock hospital care, latest protocols, best medication, he comes out of it convinced that his taking ivermectin as a prophylactic saved him....

All of a theme.
Free speech is only for those that agree with them, freedom of religion is for the same or adjacent religions only, free press excludes fake news, and on and on...

He died, so his ideological comrades will believe that the hospital denying him the horse paste is why he died.

Only if the requirements don't specify anything about the type of mask.

Unfortunately, some places don't.

Ya i looked at the link. The products appear to be designed to be useless except to fool others into thinking the person has a reasonable mask on. I'd call that more unethical than wearing no mask at all.

Their disclaimer pretty much says don't expect the mask to help at all.

It's like wearing glasses frames with no lenses in them. Except for the spreading a contagious, deadly disease part.
