Covid-19 miscellany

LA County sheriff Alex Villanueva will not enforce the LA County vaccine mandate in his department;

The Los Angeles County sheriff says he will not enforce the county’s vaccine mandate in his agency.

Sheriff Alex Villanueva, who oversees the largest sheriff’s department in the country with roughly 18,000 employees, said Thursday in a Facebook Live event that he does not plan to carry out the county’s mandate, under which Los Angeles County employees had to be fully vaccinated by Oct. 1.

“I don’t want to be in a position to lose 5, 10% of my workforce overnight on a vaccine mandate,” the sheriff said.

I must say, I like the cut of Villanueva’s jib.

Don't get too attached, the crook will have a tough reelection.

Isn't one of the pillars of democracy that police superiors don't have to enforce laws they don't personally like?

Another hit piece from the LA Times at the behest of the county supervisors no doubt. Does anyone read the LA Times these days, apart from the sports section? That rag is just awful. They are practically giving it away these days.

You confuse a factual report for a hit piece. Where's the lie?

If you’re a right wing extremist, the truth is always a “hit piece”.

I never read the article, I don't read the LA Times. I am aware the LA County supervisors are constantly on Villanueva's case about something, anything. You quote something about a watchdog panel investigating stuff. Meh.

Finally, you admit you don't know what you're talking about in this thread. I already knew that though.

Oh ffs :rolleyes:

You did admit you didn't read it, so :shrug:

Yes, that's why you have to cut your disposable masks when you throw them out, like with six pack rings.

Ya i looked at the link. The products appear to be designed to be useless except to fool others into thinking the person has a reasonable mask on. I'd call that more unethical than wearing no mask at all.

Their disclaimer pretty much says don't expect the mask to help at all.

It's like wearing glasses frames with no lenses in them. Except for the spreading a contagious, deadly disease part.

Not really a good description because plenty of people wear glasses with one eye having plain glass.

I said “lenses” plural, so your scenario doesn’t apply.

And in case you try to argue that plain glass isn’t a lens I’ll restate it as “empty frames”.

"Fox News reporter deletes tweet after being blasted for using Colin Powell’s death to promote vaccine disinformation

John Roberts, Fox News' co-anchor of "America Reports," and the right wing network's former White House correspondent under Presidents Trump, Bush, and Clinton, came under intense fire Monday morning for using the COVID-19 related death of former U.S. Secretary of State and Joint Chiefs Chairman Colin Powell to promote the network's position of vaccine disinformation.

"Fox News aired claims that undermine COVID-19 vaccines on 99% of days in the last six months, according to research by progressive media watchdog group Media Matters for America," HuffPost reported earlier this month. "Only two days from April through September didn't feature the sowing of doubt about the safe and effective shots."

The news of the death of former U.S. Secretary of State and Joint Chiefs Chairman Colin Powell has hit many across the nation hard. Secretary Powell was 84 years old and died of complications from COVID-19, with his family noting he was fully vaccinated.

Powell was also battling "multiple myeloma, a type of blood cancer that impacts the body's ability to fight infections," and Parkinson's.

For those concerned that American anti-vaxxers couldn't become any stupider ...

One school district in Florida has instituted a ban: Vaccinated pupils will not be allowed to attend school until 30 days after getting their shot. Source: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LZGSiwUE1dw
No less stupid, but that is a private school, not a school district. The people running that place have been pulling this crap for a bit now.

The authoritarians in San Francisco temporarily shut down an In and Out burger restaurant;

The city of San Francisco temporarily closed an In-N-Out fast-food restaurant over the company’s refusal to force customers to prove they are vaccinated against the coronavirus. The San Francisco Department of Public Health closed the Fisherman’s Wharf In-N-Out location on Oct. 14 after the popular burger joint did not check the vaccination status of customers, which violates an August mandate from the city requiring indoor diners to show proof of vaccination.

"We refuse to become the vaccination police for any government," Wensinger declared, slamming the San Francisco Department of Health's requirements as "unreasonable, invasive, and unsafe" and accusing the city of asking restaurants to "segregate Customers" based on vaccine documentation.

This is not about the public's health.
