Covid-19 miscellany

Ain't none of those rights he speaks of in the Bible... anywhere. These were alleged rights men said existed that were endowed by the creator, but that didn't come with a reference or footnote.

He has the same protected rights to protest as those that took to the streets (and still do) for BLM protests. The upside is that Cameron’s protest is unlikely to result in the mayhem and destruction seen during a BLM protest.

But much much more likely to result in death. Even of people who weren’t there.

Hardly.

Show your working, or STFU.

You are allowed your own opinions, but not your own facts.

It's a fact that CoVID is deadly. It is a fact that it is contagious.

Nobody's buying your idiotic alternative reality. In real reality, you are stupidly, dangerously, wrong, and your attitude is seriously harmful to your society.

Stimulus checks: House GOP kills bid for $2,000 checks - CNNPolitics
House Democrats tried to quickly pass the bill by a unanimous consent request Thursday morning, but Republicans rejected the move, leaving the future of the $900 billion stimulus package -- and whether any changes will be added to it -- in doubt. That stimulus package was attached to a spending bill for the entire federal government, and a deadline for government funding expires Monday at midnight.

Democrats have seized on Trump's surprise objections to the bill in a bid to push Republicans to accept a higher amount for the stimulus checks -- and Republican lawmakers are now in a difficult spot where they will be forced to decide whether or not they will defy the President.
I enjoy their misery over this issue. It's their mess that they made, by enabling him so much.

News articles that compare states or countries by giving the absolute number of cases only are misleading and they do this all the time. MSNBC is notorious at it. By per capita cases, California ranks in the bottom half of the nation.

ICU bed numbers is a useful marker though.

It's not comparing states. It's more like marking a horrifying milestone that any state would reach 2 million.

Trump signs stimulus bill into law and averts shutdown - The Washington Post - "The president had demanded changes to the stimulus bill but on Sunday moved to release the stimulus funds after all"
President Trump unexpectedly capitulated Sunday night and signed the stimulus bill into law, releasing $900 billion in emergency relief funds into the economy and averting a Tuesday government shutdown.

After holding the bill up for nearly a week, White House officials didn’t explain why he decided to suddenly back down and sign a bill into law he had just days earlier referred to as a “disgrace.”

Trump signed the bill while vacationing in Florida and on a weekend when he had allowed unemployment benefits for 14 million Americans to expire.

Trump signs coronavirus relief and government funding bill into law after lengthy delay - CNNPolitics
The estimated 12 million people in two key pandemic unemployment programs, who were facing their last payment this weekend, will now receive benefits for another 11 weeks. Plus, all those collecting jobless payments will receive a $300 weekly federal boost through mid-March.
Whew! We can rest easier, and a $600 check ought to be on the way to each of us before long. It may not be $2000, but it's better than nothing.

EU Begins Its Vaccine Rollout With Goal Of Inoculating 450 Million Against COVID-19 : Coronavirus Updates : NPR
he EU hopes to vaccinate residents of all 27 member-states by the end of next year. Brussels has also secured doses of the vaccine for non-EU countries — including Iceland and Norway. EU contributions to the international COVAX vaccine initiative will also mean that Kosovo — one of the poorest countries in Europe — will receive at least 300,000 COVID vaccine doses.

The start of the EU's vaccine rollout comes at a time when a more infectious COVID-19 variant has been spreading across the U.K., which officially leaves the EU at midnight on December 31. That strain has also been detected in several EU countries, including Ireland, France and Sweden. Vaccine developers, including BioNTech's CEO Ugur Sahin, say they expect their shots to work against coronavirus mutations.
Such a contrast with the US pResident.

Maybe, but he sure looked healthy in the photos that I saw of him. There have been plenty of healthy people in their 30s and 40s who have died of COVID. That's the thing about this weird virus. None of us know how our bodies will react if we become infected. Sure, certain age groups and underlying diseases put people at a higher risk of severe complications or death, but being young and healthy doesn't mean that you won't' die while at the same time, some very old people with underlying conditions have survived.

To. me, the worst part of being careless is that it drives up the numbers and puts a tremendous burden on an already overwhelmed health care system. Even if you don't die from this disease, you might need a few days of hospitalization, but there won't be anyone available to care for everyone that becomes infected and needs that extra care if so many people continue to show such a lack of respect for their fellow citizens, including the doctors and nurses who are on the front lines of caring for those who their help.

More than likely he had at least one underlying health condition. He may not have been aware he had a condition.

Well, if so, the very fact that people in their 40s can have underlying conditions they don't even know about undermines your whole schtick about how we should be selectively protecting the at-risk groups and let the rest of is continue our normal lives, doesn't it?
