Covid-19 miscellany

She needs to come up with a brilliant excuse

An excuse for what?

Let's see if you can come up with something brilliant.
An excuse for her non-essential travel to a state that she has been beating on for its unsafe covid protocols. Its just bad optics on her part, and its hard to imagine how she did not have the foresight to see the hypocrisy and brew haha to come. As a minimum, she could have at least put a mask on to show she is serious about not spreading the virus, instead of joining the "plague rats".

Her Twitter responses to her critics have not helped her situation. Talking about how they are all sexually frustrated that they can't date her, etc. Its like something you would hear from a narcisstic high school sophomore, not a member of the United States Congress.

How does someone eat while wearing a mask?
I assume the whingers believe (or pretend to believe) that to not be a hypocrite she should take all food intravenously, or via a tube inserted through her nose.
Here in California, the suggestion is that you remove your mask just before spooning the food in your mouth, then immediately put the mask back on while chewing. Repeat for 100 times or until plate is clean.

California governor's office tells diners to wear masks "in between bites"

Hilarious;

Meanwhile, Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has fled her virus-ravaged state for Miami Beach, Florida, where she was seen raising a class over dinner. The face of the progressives in her party appeared fine with having a maskless meal, despite staunchly supporting mask and vaccine mandates that the state is known to forego. She unwound in the Sunshine State as New York smashed it's daily COVID case count for the third day in a row with 76,555 new infections, an increase from 67,000 the day before. Ocasio-Cortez was dragged on Twitter by conservatives mocking her strict stance on COVID protocols, including a Twitter account devoted to and endorsed by Republican Governor Ron DeSantis, which invited her to 'enjoy a taste of freedom' in the Sunshine State.
'Welcome to Florida, AOC! We hope you're enjoying a taste of freedom here in the Sunshine State thanks to @RonDeSantisFL's leadership,' the tweet, by the Team DeSantis account, read.
'P.S. We recommend the Rock Shrimp Roll and the Aoki Tai the next time you decide to dine in Miami. Cheers!,' read a follow up tweet.

Daily Mail
Interesting. My understanding is that no one knows where DeSantis is --for several days now.
Well, there's this:

DeSantis caring for cancer-stricken wife, AOC and Reid say he's MIA

Florida Governor Ron ReSantis has been caring for his cancer-stricken wife while his liberal critics like Alexandria Ocasio Cortez and Joy Reid accused him of going 'missing' during the Omicron surge that rocked the Sunshine State and the nation at large.

Fox News reports that a DeSantis spokesperson said the Republican governor joined his wife, Casey, to a cancer treatment on December 19, on the same day a handful of leftist pundits criticized the governor for going 'missing' when the state would have needed him the most.

In October, DeSantis revealed his wife had been diagnosed with breast cancer, with the 43-year-old had told the outlet that 'the mother of three young children, Casey is the centerpiece of our family and has made an impact on the lives of countless Floridians through her initiatives as first lady.'

'DeSantis is the Nero of Ted Cruzes.'

DeSantis communications staffer Kyle Lamb came to the defense of his boss on Twitter against those who were questioning whether the governor was on vacation.

'Just FYI, [DeSantis] is not on vacation. Literally no one from our office has said that he is,' Lamb wrote.

'Anyone pushing that could have easily seen the public schedule and seen that he's taking calls and meetings this past week. Not having public events does not = "vacation."'

DeSantis will be making his first public appearance in two weeks Friday night at the Orange Bowl in Miami Gardens.
Yes, eventually—as in yesterday, I believe, a statement was sent out. No doubt it is difficult to balance public duties with a private life, particularly with regards to the health needs of your family. Still, that is something DeSantis signed up for, and something that is normally released to the public. Mrs. DeSantis’ cancer diagnosis was made public in October. Normally if she were undergoing surgery, Republicans would be all over asking for prayers for her recovery from surgery, if that’s what was happening.

Mrs. DeSantis has performed a great public service by sharing her diagnosis with the public and by securing funding for cancer treatment and research. As she notes, cancer is the second leading cause of death in Florida. Too bad the DeSantis family is less forthright about the prevention of another leading cause of death in Florida: COVID19.

This does sound bizarrely foolish! Well done!

I do notice that you link to an article more than 14 months old. Do you save these up in a Rolodex somewhere, to trot out as needed? When I need an example of idiocy from the right-wing whingers, I can usually find it right in the same day's news headlines!

No Rolodex needed here. Here in the US we have a thing called Google where we can dig up info from 14 months ago (sometimes even further back!) You ought to pester those in charge in Thailand to get Google for its citizens too.

My comment was largely tongue in cheek, in case it wasn't obvious by the way I wrote it. I don't think anybody took Newsom's eating advice seriously, especially himself, as he was busted dining maskless at the fanciest restaurant in California (French Laundry) with lobbyists exactly one month later. He hasn't brought up his bizzarely foolish "masking between bites" plan since his bust, so its mostly just a joke in time.

Odd that you manage twist Gov Newsom's "bizarrely foolish plan" into an example of right wing idiocy. Well done, sir!

Bzzzt.

Is non-essential travel really the best you can do? Is that something she's been harping on? You never even mentioned it in your original post.

She needs to come up with a brilliant excuse like SF Mayor London Breed did when she was busted partying to the hilt maskless in a SF nightclub a couple of months back, despite her earlier finger wagging about wearing masks. "But it was the 'Tone! Tone! Toni' reunion! They hadn't played together in over 20 years!! You'll all are a bunch of party poopers!"

You were complaining she wasn't wearing a mask, just like the post you were replying to, that she was "having a maskless meal, despite staunchly supporting mask and vaccine mandates that the state is known to forego."

But what was she doing in the photograph? She was sitting outdoors at a table with her live-in boyfriend. She wasn't doing anything she couldn't do even indoors with a stranger in the authoritarian gulag of NYC, which should have been obvious to anybody not blinded by AOCDS.

Just take the L.

Looks like India is about to have a spike in infections.
Meanwhile numbers are dropping suspiciously fast in Russia. I wonder how low it will drop before omicron starts spreading.

How would you know if omicron was spreading? Is there a rigorous testing program in Russia?

So, it now transpires that everyone who was at my house on Christmas Day has contracted some form of covid, another two positive this afternoon. And every person in attendance was vaccinated twice and most had a recent booster. So this obsession with vaccine passports and masks should stop. It does hee-haw to “stop or slow the spread”. Time for the control freaks to do one.

You logic is flawed. And toward what end? To make things worse for everyone.

We’ve seen the vaccine and booster decreases the chance of spread. We know it does not eliminate it. But it does decrease it. Your comments on masks, as noted by Angra, is completely misleading because you didn’t use masks, so you can’t demonstrate anything about them.

You don’t mention whether you asked everyone to be tested before arriving which is recommended, available and very useful. You could have stopped that spread, but instead you are posting misleading information to attempt to make other people less vigilant, calling the measures useless.

What we do know is that every spread of the virus, and every ongoing case, is a chance for the next variant to emerge, just like Delta did, just like Omicron did. And the next variant could be better, or it could be much much worse. And you gleefully promote that unnecessary game of chance.

Vaccines help.
Boosters help.
Masks help.
Testing helps.
Social distancing helps.
Cleaning hands and surfaces helps.
Isolation when positive helps.

None of those is 100% effective. But together they are much more effective.

You are sitting there preaching that if they are not 100% effective, you should not have to do any of them. Which is absolutely achingly stupid logic. Your Christmas party story is a demonstration on how to spread covid by ignoring recommended measures. How to increase risk for your family and your community.

And let's not forget, they claim every person was vaccinated. It implies they were infected with a vaccine escape variant like Omicron or Delta

It is almost certain that the reason nobody got long form COVID from this is because they were all vaccinated.

Variants arise due to mutation.

Mutation happens as a function of reproducing.

Reproducing happens as a function of not wearing masks.

And seriously, how hard is it to carry a COVID test? I have one in my fucking jacket pocket!!!

And let's not forget, they claim every person was vaccinated. It implies they were infected with a vaccine escape variant like Omicron or Delta
And not only that.
Something tells me that they didn't all go immediately into isolation. More likely, they were out and about spreading this to unsuspecting people, prior to symptoms or testing. Thereby reducing the effectiveness of vaccines across the board.

This is why I keep going back to the drunk driving analogy. An impaired driver isn't just taking a chance for himself and his passengers. He's taking a big, unnecessary, chance for everyone else as well.

Omicron expands exponentially. So Russia will know when it is there. Germany and Russia are seeing drops in Delta waves.

So Russia will know when it is there.
That's not the same as reporting it, though.

Remember when President Trump noticed that skyrocketing reports of C19 cases were hurting his chances of reelection? So he started closing down testing centers?
I do.
Tom

Russia isn’t known as the gold standard for transparency, but they reported the delta wave. I’d be more likely to believe Russia lacked the infrastructure to accurately report an omicron spike.

That isn’t even remotely hyperbole. We are seeing this sort of covidiocy everywhere.

Haw! The vax’d are getting it now. Told you this was going to happen. Much like arguing seatbelts are useless because they don’t stop car accidents.

But they are so certain on their stupidity. The smugness and arrogance is beyond belief at this point.

Tomorrow is the funeral for the 40 year old husband of a co-worker who died from COVID-19. Neither wore masks on the alleged advice of their fertility specialist. Such an avoidable damn shame.

More protests in Amsterdam against draconian, irrational covid mandates.

Riot police tried to break up thousands of Dutch protesters as crowds gathered in Amsterdam to protest Covid lockdown and vaccination measures in the Netherlands today. Demonstrators, most of whom didn't wear masks and ignored social distancing guidelines, defied the local government's outlawing of the protest due to fears some demonstrators might be planning to attend 'prepared for violence'.

The USA has many protests against violent and racist police.

Does the existence of protesters make you believe that they must have a good handle on social issues?

It doesn't make me believe that. But, maybe you're different from me.
You do seem to be different in many ways.
