Democrats 2020

Im starting to look at some of my favorite left leaning news sites the way I do Fox.

Agreed! They are losing their shit and it's getting harder to extract any meaningful information from the partisan screeds - just like FOX but not quite so saturated, yet.
Maybe Pete should be collecting laundered money from the Iranians or someone else who really hates Trump (I am not one bit sure that Iran is anything but delighted with the destruction that Trump is raining down on America, no matter how much they might hate him). Seems to be fair game these days to stuff one's campaign coffers with the dirtiest money on the planet...

NBC has gone over the line into cuckoo land along with Fox. So have a number of other left leaning media, yes. Can't say it's any toned down on the right though. It's just becoming more partisan and less rational overall.

Didn't you used to bash Clinton for her private fundraisers?

I rely on Reuters as my reference for accurate news worth reporting and what is deserving of the front page. I'll venture out into the framed and filtered stuff with a wary eye but my daily Reuters is always ground for me.

You think Brexit is going to result in deaths. Fascinating.

Are you expecting Britain and Europe to go to war? Are you expecting Britain to cancel the NHS?

Well Jo Cox already died.

I am expecting an upswing in racist violence against British residents and citizens who don't appear British enough for morons like the EDL and NF. But perhaps more seriously I am expecting food and medicine shortages; and massive economic disruption leading to a big upswing in poverty - people will die because they have to choose between paying for heat, or paying for food. It already happens every winter, much more commonly now than before the insane 'austerity' policy that shows no sign of abating; But Brexit will make it far worse.

There's non so bitter as a scorned lefty!

Meanwhile. Dems are tying to swim up stream and are going die doing so!

https://gellerreport.com/2019/12/gi...schemes-involving-joe-biden-obama-admin.html/

That article says that Guiliani says he found dirt on Biden. Trump got caught (and impeached) for trying to get Ukraine to announce some investigation into Biden, so he sent his lawyer out to announce it instead. What kind of moron does it take to fall for all that smoke and mirror?

Will this be like the dirt that was found on Obama's birth certificate?

Trump and company are already telling blatent lies about Biden. He makes up shit but then says it over and over again until too many people believe the lies are true. We are living in age of disinformation. Trump is no intellectual, but he is a master at lying and projecting his own negative characteristics on others, especially those who insult him. He has done this his entire life. He's not even capable of apologizing, laughing at himself or ignoring criticism, no matter how insignificant. He is so obviously a disturbed individual, with the emotional maturity of a young child. That is what we are dealing with in the US, a president who has infected our country and put our fragile democracy in mortal danger.

Nobody took him seriously when he was a reality TV star. Now he has turned our country into one, crazy, unending reality show. We can't look away, which is exactly what he wants. Meanwhile, our country is turning into something we won't recognize once this show ends. I know it's been in the works for decades, but somehow I thought we'd be able to keep it in check, before there was Trump.

We are in danger of having this man be reelected. The Democrats are not united. There hasn't been one candidate that has been able to excite and motivate the people into supporting him or her. I'm not optimistic.

Perhaps as this video shows is the reason many young people even support a party that's gone from center left to far left. They have never experienced or been close to a socialist state.

I don't like the far left democrats any.. but they support socialism just as much as the far right republicans support the elimination of democracy in exchange for a monarchy.

If you thought that Pete Buttigieg's dinner in a wine cave was something, get a load of this.

Scoop: Pete Buttigieg fundraiser dangles influence for donations in email - Axios
What they're saying: "If you want to get on the campaign's radar now before he is flooded with donations after winning Iowa and New Hampshire, you can use the link below for donations," the fundraiser, H.K. Park, wrote in an email to the donor, which was reviewed by Axios.

...
Why it matters: Brendan Fischer at the campaign finance watchdog the Campaign Legal Center said the Buttigieg fundraiser's pitch "is an example of a campaign offering potential donors an opportunity to buy influence."

...
The prospective donor was also disturbed by the solicitation. "It's very telling and concerning that one of the campaign's major bundlers would talk like that," said the donor, who asked not to be named.

National President: Democratic primary Polls | FiveThirtyEight - Biden 26.8%, Sanders 17.9%, Warren 14.5%, Buttigieg 8.7%, Bloomberg 4.8%, Yang 3.4%, Klobuchar 2.8%, Booker 2.0%, Gabbard 1.6%, Steyer 1.4%, Castro 1.1%, Delaney 0.5%, Bennet 0.5%, Williamson 0.4%, Patrick 0.2%.

What are Bloomberg and Steyer doing in the race? What policy positions do they have to offer? At least Andrew Yang has one.

I'm sorry, but i had no idea America has a royal family/monarchy, unless that's meant the Clintons!

Pure projection, because some Trumpies seem to think that Trump will be the founder of some de facto monarchical dynasty, with him being succeeded by his children.

The US has had such political families as the Bushes, the Kennedys, and the Roosevelts, even if they are not as prominent as they had earlier been.

Bloomberg and Steyer Drop Out and Invest Ad Money in Breakthrough Energy Fund: Said No One… Yet
Every week Bloomberg and Steyer ads are running is tens of millions of dollars that could have otherwise been used for things like solar projects, energy research, green jobs programs, and the like. Let’s ask these lovely kindhearted billionaires to spend their campaign ad money on climate change solutions. For the country and for the planet, we need these two billionaires to drop out of the Presidential campaign and put their fortunes into energy breakthroughs and renewable energy projects.
Of if they insist on spending their money on politics, to encourage people to vote for candidates with good records on renewable-energy support.

AOC: rejecting high-dollar fundraisers is “called giving a damn” - Vox - "The wine cave controversy is far from over, as Warren and Sanders emphasize their commitment to small-dollar fundraising."
At a campaign rally for Sen. Bernie Sanders in Venice, California, on Saturday, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez proudly championed Sanders’s refusal to take money from billionaires, saying, “For anyone who accuses us for instituting purity tests, it’s called having values. It’s called giving a damn.”

And on Saturday night in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Sen. Elizabeth Warren explained to reporters why she has sworn off high-dollar fundraisers despite having held them as a candidate for the Senate — an issue that was raised during the sixth Democratic debate on Thursday.

“I saw how this system works,” Warren said in Iowa. “And I decided when I got in the presidential race that I wanted to do better than that.”
However, Joe Biden and Pete Buttigieg have defended high-dollar fundraisers as consistent with good governance, pointing to Barack Obama and Nancy Pelosi.
But Saturday, Ocasio-Cortez pushed back against Buttigieg’s stance by telling a story that also seemed to underscore his lack of Washington experience.

“I go into work all the time and I hear people saying, ‘What will my donors think?’” she said. “I see that billionaires get members of Congress on speed dial and waitresses don’t, okay? There’s a difference.”

When Sanders took the stage after Ocasio-Cortez, he echoed this point: “We don’t have a Super PAC,” Sanders said. “We don’t want a Super PAC. We don’t go to rich people’s wine caves.”
PB responded that he wanted to get support from people with different backgrounds.
“This is our only chance to defeat Donald Trump, he said. “And we shouldn’t try to do it with one hand tied behind our back. The way we will win is to bring everybody to our side in this fight.”

“So, the mayor just recently had a fundraiser that was held in a wine cave, full of crystals, and served $900-a-bottle wine,” Warren responded. “He had promised that every fundraiser he would do would be open-door, but this one was closed-door. We made the decision many years ago that rich people in smoke-filled rooms would not pick the next president of the United States.”

I don't think either Chelsea nor Ivanka should run for president. :)

The Roosevelts are not really a good example. Yes, they share a last name but they were only like 5th cousins.

So what is this purity test? Is it just individual billionaire money that should not be taken or do we include corporations, particularly those who have been in the news as having paid no taxes? Are there good billionaires and bad billionaires? And should we really include millionaires? At least have a low end cut off of say 10 million. Is a max contribution from one billionaire, one billionaire too much?
I think when we get down to it, all we're taking about are the optics of a wine cave and whether we should have more respect for the guy who will openly meet with these millionaires/billionaires or the people who will quietly take their money but say they can't be seen in public with them.

If billionaires want to contribute, they can do so, but under the same terms as everybody else. No special favors, no dinners with them in expensive wine caves with fancy chandeliers. I like what AOC does. When she visited Los Angeles last year, she didn't visit any celebrities or any entertainment executives. Instead, she met some activists. Those are the people she met offstage in her recent visit there, people like Cornel West. That's also what she and BS did when they rolled out their Green New Deal for public housing: several housing activists spoke there, and not anyone that a corporate Democrat or Republican is likely to invite: CEO's of companies that do home-repair contracting.
