To answer the poll: I think he will be convicted of Murder in the 3rd degree, an option not given in the poll. There is some doubt mostly because he is white and George Floyd was black.
I think in general, the main issue is the victim of a crime. Being a black male, that is pretty low on the board of "justice must be served". To steal a line from A Time to Kill, imagine that is a white woman died instead.

This means, there is presumption that the victim was in some way responsible for his death, because he is dead, a circular logic error. A woman's neck might be smaller, but a female is really no less susceptible to blood loss to the brain from a knee to the neck than a male.

The case is muddled as well, with an officer being involved, as an officer is always provided a much greater leeway for application of force. Ironically, being an officer, this should have never happened though because a knee to the neck is dangerous. Their training tells them this.

My money would be on the lowest crime, manslaughter because it is an officer. Some on the jury likely want a higher charge, but that'll be the 'compromise'.

Re: The line from A Time to Kill: That’s the crux of the problem isn’t it? The problem, I mean, with society as a whole. We cannot (all) seem to identify with those who are in some way too dissimilar to ourselves and when we can, we are too likely to believe that everyone sees the works the way that we do—or should see the world our way.

More of us can see the death of a child as tragic, but even that is not universal. Fewer of us see that the lives of all children have value and fewer recognize the value of adult lives, much less the lives of old people or those who are ‘foreign’ or dissimilar to us or make us uncomfortable in any way.

No hung jury it seems. That seemed to be the best possibility (other than mistrial) for the defendant. I can't see a jury being done this quickly and not being guilty on some significant count. Verdict to be read some time between 4:30/5:00 eastern time.

Verdict to be read at 4:30 local time, a little less than an hour.

I think the quick turnaround pretty much rules out a hung jury and also leans towards a guilty verdict, imo.

The jury has to find Chauvin guilty of something if they don't want their city to burn.

I guess you have a low opinion of the jury selection process and other people in general.

Also, if they have working eyes and brains.

YES! I am 99.99999% sure it will be a guilty verdict. It's so obvious that Chauvin murdered Floyd.
The jury is only obeying Rep. Waters. Or so will the appeal say.

Which is Chauvin's right. To paraphrase TomC, if Chauvin is not given every avenue of appeal, Proud Boys, Oathkeepers and 3 percenters will burn the city to the ground.

Sweeping generalizations are fun for everybody.

It's people in general.

I live in a place where people regularly lynched other people because they felt it was needed.
