If the baby can survive outside the womb is abortion "murder"?

If there’s an objective case to be made about immigration and the plans of democrats to allegedly fast track illegals to green cards I’d rather read that.
Now that I think about it that could be a good thing. It is going towards there being an equality for Americans and people from third world countries, etc. It's interesting that the SpaceX issue was about this kind of thing.

The big difference between 1900-1960 and 1960-2020 is not so much in technological change, but in social change. Tell someone in 1960 that by 2020 gays would be out and allowed to marry, that a black man would be president, and that trans people would have recognized rights, and he would have told you that you were an idiot.
Tell any soldier in the trenches in the Great War, or in WWII for that matter, that he was fighting for the freedom of one man to marry another, and he would likely have shot you.

Any soldier? There's some WWI history that you have not been exposed to, methinks.

Is there an objective case though? If it’s just pure fantasy then I don’t find it to be an interesting issue.

I think this is very closely related:
"NYC hotels that converted into migrant shelters set to rake in over $1B in taxpayer funds"
"Illegal immigrants are offered an array of taxpayer funded benefits, enticing more to come"

What the fuck is this thread about? Btw, if you're lonely, get a dog. They give you unconditional love as long as you give them a comfortable home and some food and water. Who wins the prize for the best derail of this thread?

Not only that, but now you can converse with your dog via soundboards. :)

I just met two new doggies in my apartment building, August (really big) and Lucy (really small). They slobbered all over me. It was love at first sight! :)

This thread is all over the map, isn’t it?

Do those articles mention fast tracking them to green cards? I didn’t see it. That’s the claim I am asking about. The goalposts are oshifting so fast I can’t keep track of them.

The thread is supposed to be about abortion, yes?

Most states have laws against pursuing romantic relationships with a dog, I think.

When I saw the OP, I knew it was doomed to end up as a dumpster fire. Combining Elon Musk and late term abortion into one topic is never going to result in a calm, rational discussion.
It was called out as an ineffective, irrelevant “thought exercise” (without the thought part) early on, and has since lost whatever exercise value it may have had.

Yep. Otherwise we get mogs:

Love isn't the same as romance and I think you are a cat lover, but I doubt you are having a romantic relationship with your cat, are you?

I think in a large number of abortions the issue is just the inconvenience
You keep saying that. Has it happened to you a lot of times? What is the basis for that belief?
Statistics don’t back it up.

Who cares.
It doesn’t happen enough to be any kind of social disease that needs to be addressed by a government. I agree that it sounds disgusting, immoral, unethical and like a bad thing. So much so in fact, that I have foregone any plans I ever had to engage in such a thing. How about you?
I think the inconvience of a pregnancy can seem to outweigh the issues with killing an unborn baby... even though apparently a lot of couples (or singles) are trying to adopt...
Pregnancy is a life threatening condition. Risk to the health and life of the mother do not end when the pregnancy ends, either through childbirth or miscarriage or abortion. Pre-eclampsia most often occurs during pregnancy but it can occur after childbirth as well and indeed can kill women. There are other potentially life threatening conditions that can arise during any pregnancy and during childbirth, no matter how much the pregnancy was wanted and longer for.

That’s just fact. That this is the state of women’s healthcare in the USA in 2025 is shameful. But women and children are not valued sufficiently that we are willing to structure society or health care to protect vide the best chances for a happy and productive life for all.

If you want to truly end elective abortion, then excellent universal and comprehensive healthcare must be available and accessible to all. Paid family leave for all parents for at least one year and mandatory for both parents, nutritional and housing support, comprehensive education pre-K through post secondary school and jobs training ( no—they are not the same!) with support for apprenticeships are necessary components. We also seriously need to change the work week to 30-32 hrs. and make high quality universal daycare available to all.

We also need to effectively address mental health concerns as well as addiction of all types.

My point is that pet ownership is hardly scratching the same itch as an AI dating sim. Japan nearly invented the matket for the latter, and not because they don't keep pets, they are a famously cat-devoted nation as well.
