Leftists against woke

I heard a commentator describe liberalism as the belief in creating conditions that allow everyone to flourish. In contrast, he characterized ‘woke’ ideology as focusing on elevating certain groups while encouraging others to feel guilty.
Yeah, "woke" is going too far.
Where exactly? And people espousing opinions doesn't quite count.
The basic problem is the metric has become the goal. And that's never good.
Isn't that you yanks don't want? (A metric system)
It's just that it would be rotten for pop/rock lyrics:

"I would walk five hundred kilometers,
And I would walk five hundred more,
Just to be the maaaaaahn who walked a thousand kilometers
To fall down at your door..."

****

"I'm gonna give you every centimeter of my love,
I 'm gonna give you my love..."

😣 Nope. Just nope.

I still have my metric wrenches I got under the Carter adm when we were supposed to go metric.

Your grandkids will appreciate them (maybe)

I sometimes use my metric tools.

You're probably looking at some metric hardware right now--I know some of the standard computer mounting screws are metric, I'm not sure if all of them are.

I have a Toyota and a BMW. Metrics are required.

I don't think you can buy a complete tool kit with only SAE tools nowadays.

Whether anyone likes it or not, most of the power in the US is concentrated in a small number of white males, and has been since the beginning of this country.

Most legislators/lawmakers, most governors, POTUS, have been white ( one exception) with only a single non-make as VP. It’s only recently that there have been more than one or two females on the bench of the Supreme Court. Most CEOs and CFOs of major corporations are white and male. Most law enforcement, most mayors and city council members, etc. do you want me to pull up?

The USSC has just ruled in such a way as to continue that tradition. Project 2025 lays out exactly the intention to return the US to white males in charge

Oh, and all the outcries and demonization of women and persons of color who do not wish to remain subservient, oops: how woke of me: I meant in their proper places.

It is difficult to avoid wondering if white males are as inclined to wish to hold onto power as anyone else in power

Of course #not all white men or even men, really.

Accountability is never good, you mean?

"I've been discriminated against my entire life."
"No, you haven't."
"I am pretty sure I have."
"Prove it."
"Here is an avalanche of objective data showing that this is true."
"Quantitative data doesn't count as evidence. Stop making the metric the goal."
"Okay then, here is testimony about specifically racist or homophobic comments."
"Those are just misunderstandings or jokes. That's freedom of speech. Why can't you people learn to take a joke?"
"What about the time I was physically assaulted for my race/gender?"
"You were assaulted, yes, but you can't prove it was a hate crime. You don't know what was in his head. Actually accusing him of a hate crime is the real racism here."
"If nothing counts as evidence of discrimination, how am I supposed to prove that it is happening?"
"Shut up."

I still have a 1972 BMW factory toolkit reversible metric flathead/phillips screwdriver.

Except the vast majority of evidence of discrimination is extremely poor.

And the big metrics go the other way. Blacks and women earn a disproportionate share of degrees.

Life has taught me that a plethora of weak evidence normally means the position is false. Not to say that there wasn't discrimination in the past, but today it looks like it's going the other way. Examine a cohort, don't mix past victims (older) with present non-victims (younger) to pretend there's still a problem.

What is "strong evidence" and what is "weak evidence"?
