While he was a trash speaker he's not Jim Jordan or the current speaker of the house, who to this day still believes in the election fraud.
Oh gimme a break. Gym doesn’t “believe” that BS, it’s a political expediency for him to placate Trump.
I recognize that many view these individuals with skepticism. I'm not contesting that perspective. Nonetheless, while some are favored by the far-right, others are simply opportunists, swayed by political convenience. The current political landscape allows the far-right to exert significant influence over Republican leaders. Without a reliable alliance with the Democrats, these leaders might continue to gravitate towards the far-right, risking a total collapse. I mean, why the fuck shouldn't they? Just look at what happened to Liz Cheney for example?
She distanced herself from Trump, leading to a backlash from fellow Republicans, essentially telling her to take a hike. Meanwhile, Democratic voters, considering her previous political stances, also expressed disdain. What a beautifully decorated cake republican's are being offered while their team is collapsing. If I were a Republican officeholder, approached by Democrats to collaborate, my response would simply be "the cake is a lie." I find myself amidst an ongoing struggle to prevent my party from succumbing to ineffectual extremism. Assisting you could jeopardize my efforts, and I am under no illusion that your concern for my political survival would be minimal at best.
At the same time, the far-right is steadily consolidating its power. Although maintaining McCarthy’s leadership would have been a bitter pill to swallow (we're used to that with Hillary mmkay?), it could have potentially emboldened the more moderate voices within the ranks—acknowledging, of course, the prevalent perception that they are all cut from the same cloth. With McCarthy in place, these moderates might have found the courage to voice their opinions, utilizing Democratic support as a strategic advantage in their internal struggles.
Currently, they find themselves exceedingly vulnerable to the far-right's influence. So much so, that a mere phone call from Trump—a former U.S. president now facing criminal charges—has had an immediate impact. It prompts the question: When in America’s history has such a scenario ever unfolded?
Fuck man, I don't know what else to say.
