Mueller investigation

Nunes says FBI investigation could be ending this week.

These fries are going to require a shit ton of salt.

It's not about the end of the Russia investigation:
House Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes said on Sunday the investigation into what started the FBI’s probe into possible collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia during the 2016 presidential election could come to an end this week if he is given the proper documents.

Even the title of the Fox Business report purposefully misrepresents: "FBI probe into Trump campaign-Russia collusion could end this week, House Intel Chair Nunes says".

I like how Nunes recused himself from the investigation he is currently running.

Looks like my prediction that Trump will throw his kids under the buss is starting to come true as Jay Sekulow now says that Trump didn't draft the cover story for the Trump Tower meeting, but that Jr. did it.

Not that it was a difficult prediction to make...

I call absolute bullshit on that claim!

It is very hard to predict what this admin will do. What I find funny is that this was the official story they made to that Mueller guy... the Special Prosecutor. Aren't they stepping in it by changing the story now... I mean short of this is just a delay tactic to fire Mueller.

I believe they'll say something like 'we weren't under oath' when they wrote the letter, or when their recollection shifted while they were on camera...something along those lines.

Maybe that's the goal? They change the story SO MUCH, that Mueller can't charge them with prevarication if he can't figure out which one's the lie?

The walls are closing in on Trump. The one thing about him that IS predictable is that he is loyal to no one but himself. I stick with my prediction. He'd be happy to let his kids go to prison if it means he might remain free.

I was being a bit facetious, and agree that Trump will sell out Melania in a moment to save his ass.

I realized that after the fact. :)

I think Trump's strategy is to buy silence by demonstrating how freely he bestows Presidential pardons on people he likes. I think Mueller's strategy is to push in an obvious direction, perhaps triggering a few of those pardons, while secretly building additional cases so that when Trump leaves office the pardons won't be enough to save Trump or his associates.

it's going to be interesting watching the maneuvering. Trump's somewhat canny but he's easily goaded. Giuliani isn't up to the job of keeping Trump's worst instincts in check. Bannon was, but he's on the outs right now.

Superseding Indictment

For those interested in details, Mueller has now added Konstantin Kilimnik to the Manafort indictment, which brings the total number of "witches" to 20. He has now submitted a superseding indictment (See https://www.scribd.com/document/381356043/Manafort-kilimnik-Superseding-Indictment-060818) with 7 counts:

  1. Conspiracy against the United States
  2. Conspiracy to launder money
  3. Unregistered Agent Of A Foreign Principal
  4. False and Misleading FARA Statements
  5. False Statements
  6. Obstruction Of Justice
  7. Conspiracy to Obstruct Justice

See the indictment for tons of juicy details, including a list of property that the government wants to seize as part of the penalty.

I find that very reasonable. It seems obvious that indictments and investigation are certainly progressing into several areas at this point. I would not expect things to at all be ready to wrap up before the midterms, but let us say for the sake of argument about halfway through 2018 Mueller comes back with a recommendation for impeachment and/or indictment of Trump (and most likely) several other people. That only leaves a year and a half for all the court cases, the fact-finding, the indictments going through and finally the sentencing. Much easier to do if Trump is out of office by being voted out at that time. As the case has always been, the answer to see justice is for dems to quit bitching about candidates right now and VOTE. Vote the midterms and then vote big in 2020.

If America wants to send any kind of signal as they always claim to want to do, this is the time. Resoundly vote the GOP out at every turn. Let ALL politicians know that this kind of corruption and covering by the administration in power will not be tolerated. More likely they'll all go back to their reality TV and we'll be fucked.

Cohen is reportedly going to start cooperating. That should be an interesting twist in the tidy bowl...
https://abcnews.go.com/US/trump-law...perate-attorneys-leave-case/story?id=55861988
As attorneys for Michael Cohen rush to meet Judge Kimba Wood’s Friday deadline to complete a privilege review of over 3.7 million documents seized in the April 9 raids of Cohen’s New York properties and law office, a source representing this matter has disclosed to ABC News that the law firm handling the case for Cohen is not expected to represent him going forward.

To date, Cohen has been represented by Stephen Ryan and Todd Harrison of the Washington and New York firm, McDermott, Will & Emery LLP.

No replacement counsel has been identified as of this time.

Cohen, now with no legal representation, is likely to cooperate with federal prosecutors in New York, sources said. This development, which is believed to be imminent, will likely hit the White House, family members, staffers and counsels hard.

Those rascally Russians weren't supposed to actually show up and respond.

Mueller Scrambles To Limit Evidence After Indicted Russians Actually Show Up In Court

Mueller asked a Washington federal Judge for a protective order that would prevent the delivery of copious evidence to lawyers for Concord Management and Consulting, LLC, one of three Russian firms and 13 Russian nationals. The indictment accuses the firm of producing propaganda, pretending to be U.S. activists online and posting political content on social media in order to sow discord among American voters.

The special counsel's office argues that the risk of the evidence leaking or falling into the hands of foreign intelligence services, especially Russia, would assist the Kremlin's active "interference operations" against the United States.

“The substance of the government’s evidence identifies uncharged individuals and entities that the government believes are continuing to engage in interference operations like those charged in the present indictment,” prosecutors wrote.

...

Mueller also accused Concord of "knowingly and intentionally" conspiring to interfere with the election by using social media to disparage Hillary Clinton and support Donald Trump.

And Concord Management decided to fight it...

As Powerline notes, Mueller probably didn't see that coming - and the indictment itself was perhaps nothing more than a PR stunt to bolster the Russian interference narrative.

I don’t think anyone (including Mueller) anticipated that any of the defendants would appear in court to defend against the charges. Rather, the Mueller prosecutors seem to have obtained the indictment to serve a public relations purpose, laying out the case for interference as understood by the government and lending a veneer of respectability to the Mueller Switch Project.

One of the Russian corporate defendants nevertheless hired counsel to contest the charges. In April two Washington-area attorneys — Eric Dubelier and Kate Seikaly of the Reed Smith firm — filed appearances in court on behalf of Concord Management and Consulting. Josh Gerstein covered that turn of events for Politico here. -Powerline Blog

The segment covers what was discussed in court regarding Manafort's new charges and whether or not he can get out on bail.

He's going to jail and will not be released because that is apparently the only way to prevent him from tampering with witnesses and breaking more laws.

Don't you love Republican double standards?

The constant Benghazi investigations against Hillary Clinton went on for many years, nearly the whole of Obama's term in office, but that wasn't a witch hunt.

The Mueller investigation has so far resulted in 20 indictments and 5 guilty pleas, and that is a witch hunt.

We have to factor in that Republicans are using "objective" morals instead of moral relativism, so to them things are good or bad based on who does them, not based on what is done.
