Mueller investigation

The GOP has proven themselves unfit to govern. They claim patriotism and rule of law and have turned their backs even on their own twisted sense of morality. They have not been a check on this president, and have not prevented any of the great damage this president is causing. They are scum as far as I am concerned, with only those not running next year finding the courage to speak against Trump. They talk and talk about morality and Jesus and religion, and when the time comes to act they roll over for money and power because the base THEY THEMSELVES HAVE CREATED are now so rabid that they are paralyzed. Fuck them. In my view, they are the real traitors in this situation and they should all be sent resoundingly packing in the next couple of elections.

Are you suggesting that interfering with a treason investigation is not patriotic?

Dear Republicans,
New instructions are coming from your leaders. You are now supposed to smear and discredit Cohen. Never mind what you were told to say earlier, now you're supposed to smear and discredit him. If you fail to do this, treason might actually get punished, and we must prevent that at all costs. If we aren't free to commit treason, then what value does freedom even have?

That's a pretty cynical and negative view, thinking that Cohen will just lie to get leniency. He and Trump's legal team all know damn well that Mueller will have evidence and not just Cohen's word.

So what part of Giuliani suggesting Trump could pardon Manafort isn’t tampering with a witness?

Maybe Trump is learning new tricks from his buddies Putin and Kim?

remember: Hillary is backed by Eastasia, she was never part of Eurasia.

So what part of Giuliani suggesting Trump could pardon Manafort isn’t tampering with a witness?

Remember back in the day when people used to say, "we can't comment on an on-going case" and then suddenly everything turned upside-down?

That's when people understood that by keeping their mouths shut, it gave investigators less to work with. This is the opposite strategy. On a daily basis, scream about the unjustness of the investigation, sow doubt, and then eventually convince enough people that the investigation is a sham, so that when the results come out, there are no consequences.

It's the attempt to destroy law, and by extension, the United States as a functioning democracy.

And it's going to work.

Worked with the ACA. Mueller does have an ace though. Apparently if Trump is indicted, Mueller’s report has to go to Congress, then it’ll leak to the public. That would be Mueller’s last action if he was to be fired.

Worked with big tobacco. Worked with global warming too. I'm afraid you may be right. I fear for my children, and what country they may grow up in.

So what part of Giuliani suggesting Trump could pardon Manafort isn’t tampering with a witness?

None, as Giuliani apparently learned from the reaction to his attempt to float pardons to potential witnesses in a criminal investigation. That was clearly a desperate tactic to try to get Manafort to keep his mouth shut and hang tight for a reward. Giuliani reversed himself on Sunday: Giuliani: Trump shouldn’t issue pardons in Russia investigation.

Of course, Giuliani's about-face did not get wide coverage in the press. They've moved on to other scandals that floated to the top of the cesspool of Trump's presidency. And Giuliani made clear that he was only backing away rapidly from the appearance of obstruction of justice. He made it clear that Trump could still give out pardons, but he himself would not be involved in advising Trump to issue pardons. In fact, he was now publicly advising Trump not to do that. He was just helpfully pointing out that, in his capacity as Trump's defense lawyer, Manafort and others thinking of cooperation with prosecutors might also be aware that Trump's power to pardon was absolute. Just a random comment.

Hey! We're building concentration camps for children, and the majority of Christians can't think of a single reason that would be wrong! Why don't you talk about that instead of the fact that the president of the United States is being investigated for treason! Don't you agree that concentration camps for children is a great idea?

Of course - it's a FANTASTIC idea! How else could you take the nation's attention off of a treasonous conspiracy to undermine the democratic institutions of the US? Gotta have something with EMOTIONAL appeal, so rational minds are shut off. Just ask Adolph - he knew how to do it!

According to CNN, Cohen may be flipping on Trump. Per ABC, he quit his RNC post and was extremely critical of the border policy separating kids from families in his resignation letter.

Trump still doesn't seem to understand that while the fear of lawsuits they couldn't afford was enough to keep his former partners quiet when he left them out to dry in the business world, that doesn't work in politics. Now let's see when Stone and Manafort (and, dare I say, Kushner?) start to sing.

Cohen will flip? Reminds me of the movie Lord of the Rings. Grima Wormtongue turns on his master, Saruman. You can only humiliate your minion so many times. Go Wormtongue, go!

I think that Wormtongue was hoping for a pardon from Saruman. He wasn't loyal just for the sake of loyalty. There had to be some kind of reciprocity in the relationship for it to last. Saruman should have realized that.

Cohen has hired a new lawyer and quit his job with the GOP. That positions him to be able to strike a deal with Mueller, because he is no longer dependent on Trump's for his legal defense. He might still be hoping that this will put enough of a scare into Trump that he will come up with some way to keep Cohen from switching sides. I don't know that Trump has any way to do that now, however. In any case, Cohen does not know where all of the skeletons are hidden in Trump's closet. He just played the role of a "fixer", not a member of Trump's inner circle of confidants. Cohen didn't do Trump's taxes or help manage his finances.

Cohen didn't do Trump's taxes or help manage his finances.

But he did record every damn thing ever. :)

Trump's attacks on every facet of law enforcement and justice speak to his knowledge of guilt; whether incrimination comes from Cohen, Flynn, Popadopolous, Gates or any of his other criminal do-conspirators, Cheato obviously has no actual legal defense. So he has to attack the law and those who enforce it. Party over Country, and SELF over Party.
