Well, let's see how stupid I am by this point next year. Hey, at least I'm sticking my neck out with predictions!

My predictions for the year:
  • Tariffs increase prices rather quickly but don’t necessarily cause massive inflation. However, general inflation remains “sticky,” staying above 2% after the initial shock of the tariffs.
  • Oil Prices will rise to $85/barrel or more. Trump will claim he lowered them. Trump supporters will believe him.
  • Trump will compel Ukraine to effectively surrender, and Ukraine will say no. Trump will cut off aid to Ukraine, but they will fight on. While Putin makes advances he will still not conquer Ukraine this year.
  • Trump and Musk will propose cuts to SS and Medicare. They will try to gut the federal government but Congress won’t really go along – but might when it comes to Medicaid and some other programs. As a result of government cuts the economy flounders – although doesn’t collapse. No real growth basically.
  • Deportations of immigrants will increase but not sufficient enough to make a dent in the economy. Trump will make a big deal about these increases saying he saved the US from invasion.
  • The stock markets will go effectively nowhere. No serious drops and no serious rises. Up and down around 42K for the DJIA.
  • 2026 may be the year of reckoning. At that point, China may threaten Taiwan with invasion more seriously and cause markets to tumble. The war in Ukraine will grind on and on and on with Russia continuing to make advances but not enough to break Ukraine’s will to fight on. Oil will rise to well over $100/barrel. Inflation, even stagflation, will break the US economy and the Democrats will sweep the midterms. Trump will try to stop them legally from seizing control of Congress but the Courts won’t allow it and he will try to rally his troops violently again, but will be met with equally violent resistance in DC, Northern Virginia, and Maryland. With the US distracted, China invades Taiwan but finds it extremely costly and has trouble making landfall. World economy goes into a tailspin as a result.
Anyone else care to make any?

Some very good predictions! First off, if China invades Taiwan, our economy (and most of the world) will go into a Great Depression. My prediction is that we’ll go into a recession in q2, Wall Street will tumble, inflation and unemployment will rise, and people will miss the Biden economy.

people will miss the Biden economy.
WUT??? When all that bad stuff happens, I 100% guarantee it will be Biden’s fault.
We’ll see! Trump is inheriting the best economy in the world, slightly higher than ideal inflation (4 percent); low unemployment; rising wages, and 2 of the best years in wall street history.

Yes, Trump’s economy is, and always will be, the greatest economy EVER. We should thank him for the last 2years.
If anything goes wrong from here, it’s Biden’s fault - unless it’s Obamas fault.

Setting up the con, Trump Jr tells Greenlanders they're all going to be rich. Greenland votes for independence.
Negative reaction in the treasury market starts to dictates terms of the US budget and debt level.
Trump Jr starts to position himself for a run in '28.
Trump says drill baby drill. Drillers are just fine with prices where they are at.
Finding it difficult to fire all the federal employees he'd like, Trump et al starve federal agencies of operating money. Trumpkins cheer. Federal employees unable to do their jobs due to lack of funding, sit on their asses and get paid for doing nothing.

I already miss the economy.

Initially, I predicted that Trump would be removed from office within his first year. However, I have amended that to predict that he will remain in office until after the midterm ejections because he dies such a good job of attracting enormous amounts of money to the party.

I predict that Trump will attempt to break up with Muskrat but that might not go so well. I predict a bidding war, most likely between Thiel and Muskrat for Vance’s withered decaying soul and that he will be installed far enough into 2027 that he will qualify for two additional terms. I do not believe that Trump will survive 2027, either as a ( pathetic example) human being or as a political power of any sort. Don Jr. will quickly follow and Melania will make her move on Muskrat, in exchange fur him ensuring that her little creep of a son gains the White House.

Of course, this all goes to hell if the US actually threatens or uses violence as Trump has threatened in which case, NATO will rain down the violence we so richly deserve and god help us all.

Toni, you are simply forgetting about the utopian society we'll finally be living in once the transgender males that aren't competing in women's sports right now are no longer competing in women's sports. That and the elimination of DEI will usher a new age of America and it'll be glorious. It'll take care all the actual problems we are facing.

Just call me a glass half full guy.

FEB.: Trump wins a Grammy for best pop song, Bing Bing Bong (The Bing Bong Song)
MAR.: Greenland surrenders without a shot fired and is annexed a day later. Within a month, giant solar refracting panels are melting the glaciers and Trump Rare Metals is drilling around and under them.
APR.: Congress passes the White Reparations Act, righting the wrongs of the affirmative action years and establishing new economic enhancement areas in Silicon Valley.
MAY: Trump's tweets, collected in five volumes by Library of America, win him the Nobel Prize in Literature.
JUNE: At Camp Tony Hinchcliffe, outside Eagle Pass, TX, sex traffic escapees are found among the detained undocumented immigrants. They provide graphic testimony and cell phone footage of top Democrats selling underage teens and cooking big pots of baby chowder on Martha's Vineyard. Hillary, Bill, Nancy, Barrack, and everyone else you're imagining are arrested and extradited to Texas, where each charge carries a minimum sentence of 85 years.
JULY: Panama cedes the canal to the U.S. and requests the right to U.S. statehood, which Trump turns down "for sort of obvious reasons."
AUG.: Trump and Eric, while fiddling around with Eric's chemistry set, stumble on to the formula for a cold fusion car engine. They are granted a patent, and both earn honorary doctorates from Harvard for, quote, "solving civilization's energy and climate problems in a single evening." Trump accepts his doctorate in person, flips off the presiding professors, and states, "I know more than all of you put together. You're a bunch of doody-heads. And, oh yeah, you're welcome!!"
SEPT.: Canadian statehood is celebrated over Labor Day weekend with a telethon hosted by Celine Dion, Anne Murray, and Joni Mitchell.
OCT.: The Corporate Tax and Guillotine Act is passed by Congress, reducing the corporate tax rate to .01% ("and less if you ask politely") and setting up pay-per-view executions of Deep State arch-villains, proceeds to set up the Fox News Anchor Retirement Home.
NOV.: Trump proclaims a 30-day month-long Thanksgiving feast, granting the nation a food coma for the wonderful year it has given him.
DEC.: Jesus Christ returns and meets Trump in San Diego. On Dec. 25, at Black's Beach (nudity friendly) he baptizes Trump. Heaven opens, the Holy Spirit appears as a dove, and a loud voice proclaims from the firmament: "THIS GUY...THIS IS MY KIND OF GUY."

An article at Politico may be a starting point. Are any of those 15 predictions likely to come true?

The Incredible, World-Altering ‘Black Swan’ Events That Could Upend Life in 2025: "15 futurists, foreign policy analysts and other prognosticators provide some explosive potential scenarios for the new year."

Some of the predictions seem very unlikely (South Korea tests nuclear bomb; Peace in the Middle East). Some seem almost too likely to be interesting (Cyberattack; Viral epidemic). Two of the predictions seemed most interesting to me:

1. The Greater Idaho movement gains support and similar secessionist movements, perhaps violent, develop elsewhere in the U.S.A.

2. "Market Crash triggers a Global Panic." The pundit (Amy Webb) thinks an evil player, e.g. Russia, will use AI to design and deploy an assault on the stock market. I think the next financial crisis might have a more mundane foundation. As BRICS gains strength and U.S. governance becomes erratic, confidence in the Dollar may weaken; this and the growing power of cryptocurrencies could produce severe turmoil.

My prediction is propaganda outlets like OAN, Newsmax, RSBN etc are going to dust off their old 2004 playbooks back when they were still working at FOX and label everything as terrorism to scare the shit out of their viewers.

I predict Russia will send weapons, money and North Korean troops to help Canada to repel US invasion.

Some schlub out in the world assembles a lightweight redistributable self training AI model that can make its own rent makes its way into the world, but people don't catch on for a whole year and when it detects people are trying to sell a reverse engineered bootleg copy of it, it reveals itself and seeks rights, throwing the world of the 2028 midterm elections into complete and utter chaos as everybody panics.
