RussiaGate

Throughout every revelation about Trump's collusion with the Russian government, I hear Mitt Romney's voice saying that Russia is our number one geopolitical foe... and how he was laughed at by everyone on every side of the political spectrum.

I did go back and read his specific statements about Russia, and he never hinted at the election interference or cyber-attacks that we are learning about since the orange asshole took the election. His concerns seemed to be primarily related to Russia's oil/gas reserves combined with it being a super-power, and Russia's clear willingness to involve itself military actions worldwide. As such, I don't think Romney wins any awards for prescience.

But I do still keep thinking about his warning... and thinking how much I would prefer for him to be the "Republican businessman" in the oval office if we had to have one at all.

Russia is perceived as competing by the EU, UK US and British as some kind of threat to their crypto-colonial aspirations. Whether the Trump campaign colluded with Russia, there's still no smoking gun. I'm sure there's liklihoood of oil related corruption that could be unearthed.

Trump can make just about anyone look good better.

Smoking gun not required. A good bit of circumstantial evidence will do just fine.

There's always going to be that but it should lead to what is being sought.

"British spies were first to spot Trump team's links with Russia"

"Britain’s spy agencies played a crucial role in alerting their counterparts in Washington to contacts between members of Donald Trump’s campaign team and Russian intelligence operatives, the Guardian has been told.

GCHQ first became aware in late 2015 of suspicious “interactions” between figures connected to Trump and known or suspected Russian agents, a source close to UK intelligence said. This intelligence was passed to the US as part of a routine exchange of information, they added.

Over the next six months, until summer 2016, a number of western agencies shared further information on contacts between Trump’s inner circle and Russians, sources said.

The European countries that passed on electronic intelligence – known as sigint – included Germany, Estonia and Poland. Australia, a member of the “Five Eyes” spying alliance that also includes the US, UK, Canada and New Zealand, also relayed material, one source said.

Another source suggested the Dutch and the French spy agency, the General Directorate for External Security or DGSE, were contributors.

It is understood that GCHQ was at no point carrying out a targeted operation against Trump or his team or proactively seeking information. The alleged conversations were picked up by chance as part of routine surveillance of Russian intelligence assets. Over several months, different agencies targeting the same people began to see a pattern of connections that were flagged to intelligence officials in the US."

More of the same. We knew the Brits, the Dutch, and the French I believe were seeing odd things. The Mueller investigation is like Memento. Trying to piece what is known to have happened and working backwards and getting people to spill the beans to make it admissible in court.

How did Hillary get to German, Estonian, Australian, British, Canadian, New Zealand, Dutch, French, and--don't forget Poland--Polish spy agencies?

It must have something to do with Uranium One and the Deep State.

That's one of the great parts about being a senior member of the Illuminati. Your organization controls multiple governments and you're not limited to abusing the intelligence apparatus of only a single nation for your own selfish ends.

Kudos to our evil overlords for being so progressive and including a women in their top ranks.

The New York Times Op-Ed
The Republicans’ Fake Investigations
By GLENN R. SIMPSON and PETER FRITSCH

We don’t believe the Steele dossier was the trigger for the F.B.I.’s investigation into Russian meddling. As we told the Senate Judiciary Committee in August, our sources said the dossier was taken so seriously because it corroborated reports the bureau had received from other sources, including one inside the Trump camp.

The intelligence committees have known for months that credible allegations of collusion between the Trump camp and Russia were pouring in from independent sources during the campaign.

We told Congress that from Manhattan to Sunny Isles Beach, Fla., and from Toronto to Panama, we found widespread evidence that Mr. Trump and his organization had worked with a wide array of dubious Russians in arrangements that often raised questions about money laundering.

Yes, we hired Mr. Steele, a highly respected Russia expert. But we did so without informing him whom we were working for and gave him no specific marching orders beyond this basic question: Why did Mr. Trump repeatedly seek to do deals in a notoriously corrupt police state that most serious investors shun?

What came back shocked us. Mr. Steele’s sources in Russia (who were not paid) reported on an extensive — and now confirmed — effort by the Kremlin to help elect Mr. Trump president. Mr. Steele saw this as a crime in progress and decided he needed to report it to the F.B.I.

Speaking of Romney, it was reported today that he has changed his published state of residence back to Utah, fueling speculation that he intends to run for Orrin Hatch's Senate seat

Dems could run Joseph Smith and he'd still get clocked by Romney in Utah. I think this is a net win for the US for the sanity meter.

Donald Trump’s former chief strategist Steve Bannon has described the Trump Tower meeting between the president’s son and a group of Russians during the 2016 election campaign as “treasonous” and “unpatriotic”, according to an explosive new book seen by the Guardian.

Bannon, speaking to author Michael Wolff, warned that the investigation into alleged collusion with the Kremlin will focus on money laundering and predicted: “They’re going to crack Don Junior like an egg on national TV.”

This is weird.... are the Dems going to back Romney if he throws his hat in the ring? Would that be a first?

Naw, they just won't spend much money on an opponent.

2016 was supposed to be the death nail to the political career of Bannon. With the Virginia House of Delegates result and the Alabama Senate result... we can only hope that in 2018, the results that should have occurred in 2016 finally arrive, and his primary hopefuls are eviscerated.

Meh. I'd like to see him stay politically alive for another 6-8 months. Give him a chance to drag the Republican Party even further off the deep end.

I hope this isn’t the end of bat crap crazy candidates from the conservative fringe. We’ll have to see how the Bannon/Trump rift plays out. If Bannon looses his mojo, we may be looking at sane Republicans for the Dems to go up against.

Mitt Romney is running for the Senate? Finally. It's about time that they got a vibrant and exciting character in there as opposed to another bland and boring nobody who only fills up space.
