Merged So what's next for Trump?

These turkeys decided to make it nearly impossible for the case to be decided before Trump gets a chance to win the election and order the DoJ to drop all charges.

A chance to win the election. For a guy who lost the popular vote twice, and then had a pretty piss-poor showing in the 2022 mid-terms. That seems like an awfully rickety basket to put all your eggs into and hope they hatch.

Sure, none of them have to worry about their own jobs, but it seems odd for the conservative majority on the court to hang their hopes on Trump maybe pulling a win out of his diaper-wearing ass.

Or maybe they're hoping for a different outcome? I mean, Thomas is in the bag for Trump (via Ginni) and Amy Coney-dog Barrett has dreams of Gilead, but Roberts would actually be well-served by Trump losing. He's got a legacy to think about, and dyed-in-the-wool conservatives like Roberts might not be entirely behind the return of Trump to the White House. The Republican Party and to a certain extent the traditional conservative movement are greatly threatened by the MAGA faction in their midst. I'm just spit-balling it here, but I don't think Roberts wants his legacy to be "the court that released the bull in the china shop."

“Whether and if so to what extent does a former President enjoy presidential immunity from criminal prosecution for conduct alleged to involve official acts during his tenure in office.”

This is what SCOTUS will decide. Am I being too hopeful by sensing that they are going to hand Orange his head?

Yeah. I got that little glimmer too but then I thought about all the times my hopes have been dashed these past seven years.

Feels too late for Roberts to change his legacy.

SCOTUS hasn’t gone out of their way to help him in previous cases.

If they give the president, any president, would make the SC null and void as far as presidential actions go. It would mean he could have any SC Justice could be killed if they dare challnge the president.

It could be that some of the justices in the dirty half dozen are more concerned about the perception of helping Biden and damaging Trump. The howls of outrage from Democrats are a lot easier for them to take, because it is not the Republicans who are calling them corrupt or threatening to impose reforms on them. Another Biden administration might mean that their hefty dominance could be diminished, as they are replaced with non-Republican justices. They have more to lose with Biden than with Trump, who couldn't care less about how corrupt some of their members are. So they wouldn't be overjoyed to see Biden stay in office. Trump would just send them more people like themselves.

I think opening the door for criminals to gain immunity by alleging things, might be a mistake.
But if any SCrotus can do it, this is the one.
It would mean he could have any SC Justice could be killed if they dare challnge the president.
Or if he alleged that they might challenge him...
Anyhow... works for Uncle Vlad - why not here?

Odds on Melania divorcing him…
- as soon as his appeal fails
- as soon as he loses the election
- Now to get as much out as she can (How is THAT handled by the court?)
Well if she's smart (and for no particular reason I get the impression she's not entirely stupid) she's been spending her entire marriage to Slobba the Hutt insulating herself from any liability from his incredibly bad decisions. There's a decent chance she's already extracted all the wealth she needs out of his failing businesses and set herself (and Barron) up for life free of any chance that his creditors will come calling.

I mean, if she divorced him, what would she get? Half of a half billion dollars of debt? A lease on the E. Jean Carroll suite at the soon to be renamed Leticia James Tower? Mel might very well have the last laugh on Trump.
Presently I would think all the assets she has squirreled away half still belongs to the Donald and can be sanctioned.
I think it would depend on when she did the squirreling.

Former U.S. President Donald Trump has been ordered to pay a six-figure legal bill to a company founded by a former British spy that he unsuccessfully sued for making what his lawyer called “shocking and scandalous" false claims that harmed his reputation.

A London judge, who threw out the case against Orbis Business Intelligence last month saying it was “bound to fail," ordered Trump to pay legal fees of 300,000 pounds ($382,000), according to court documents released Thursday.

Orbis was founded by Christopher Steele, who once ran the Russia desk for Britain’s Secret Intelligence Service, also known as MI6.

Get in line!

Lindsey Graham predicted, if they made Trump their candidate he would destroy the republican party. Looks like the takeover is just about complete. Just need to take guesses on how long until bankruptcy is declared.

He's defaming EJC again, which shows anyone who is capable of judging character that Trump has no self-control, no sense of personal liability, and is in fact too stupid to run a Cinnabon. But sure, let's let him decide the fate of NATO.

It is surreal how the GOP continually is doubling down on Trump. Now they are giving him the keys to the kingdom. I can't imagine (but who knows), the big donors giving the Trump controlled GOP much money.

The impression I get (from my radical leftist news sources) is that the RNC is already hurting for cash. If Lara Trump follows through with her promise to spend whatever money they have left on Fragilego Mussolini, I can't imagine that will go over well with donors. A lot of these people have a lot of interest in down-ballot races because those affect their businesses more directly (state regulations, governor's offices, Congress) and cutting off the funding to those races in favor of Trump might give at least some of them pause when it comes to writing another big check. And while it's not unusual for new leadership in any business to get rid of staff and fill positions with "their people," this looks like more of a general purge of anyone deemed not sufficiently loyal/cost cutting measure, and it's pretty big.

And if the new leadership decides that the RNC piggy bank would be a great way to alleviate Trump's half a billion dollar legal troubles? Yikes.

If Trump picks the same competence level fof the staffers as he did for his legal team, this is great news for this November.

He picks all the best people.

I don't think that the problem here is just with her funneling ALL the money to Donald Trump. To the extent that the RNC funds any downballot races at all, it will only go to those who Donald Trump wants those funds to go to. This means that there won't be a lot of wiggle room for those who are even the slightest bit critical of him in their races--like all of those running in close elections. I suspect that the RNC will try to convince fundraisers and donors that they can earmark money for downballot races, but that doesn't mean the earmarked money will undercut Trump's use of that money for his own purposes. They could also just find a way to steal money in an earmarked pool for Trump's legal expenses.
