The Marjorie Taylor Greene case

Buh bye...

I must admit... I am enjoying the right wing fighting over "who is more right wing" at the moment. Watching Marge and Bobo fight over what they think is "control" of the GOP is fun to watch, but what gives me pause is that there really isn't any power left in the "okay kids...you've had your little tiff, now let's get back to being a grown up party" faction.

Call them what you will. The "establishment" is losing control. The inmates are dangerously close to running the asylum.

Once again...with feeling...Marjorie Trailer Queen - Jewish Space Lasers Lady - is being thrown out of the "Freedom Caucus" because she's not anywhere near crazy enough.

Marjorie Taylor Greene Admits She’s Politically Ignorant - YouTube
Marjorie Taylor Greene at a recent townhall admits she’s clueless about the Glass-Steagall Act of 1933, one of the most significant banking legislation of the 20th Century. “I was born in 1974 so I’m not familiar with that,” MTG said, “but I can have my staff look into it.”
Glass–Steagall legislation - separated commercial and investment banking.

Starting in the early 1960s, federal banking regulators' interpretations of the Act permitted commercial banks, and especially commercial bank affiliates, to engage in an expanding list and volume of securities activities.[3] Congressional efforts to "repeal the Glass–Steagall Act", referring to those four provisions (and then usually to only the two provisions that restricted affiliations between commercial banks and securities firms),[4] culminated in the 1999 Gramm–Leach–Bliley Act (GLBA), which repealed the two provisions restricting affiliations between banks and securities firms.[5]

By that time, many commentators argued Glass–Steagall was already "dead".[6] Most notably, Citibank's 1998 affiliation with Salomon Smith Barney, one of the largest U.S. securities firms, was permitted under the Federal Reserve Board's then existing interpretation of the Glass–Steagall Act.[7] In November 1999, President Bill Clinton publicly declared "the Glass–Steagall law is no longer appropriate".[8][9]
1933 Banking Act and  Glass–Steagall: legislation, limits and loopholes and  Decline of the Glass–Steagall Ac and  Aftermath of the repeal of the Glass–Steagall Act

Why is it a contentious issue? "Robert Kuttner, Joseph Stiglitz, Elizabeth Warren, Robert Weissman, Richard D. Wolff and others have tied Glass–Steagall repeal to the late-2000s financial crisis" saying that it made banks more vulnerable to investments that go bad.

MTG never having heard of it? What's she doing in Congress if she is unfamiliar with this contentious issue in government regulation?

Steve Bannon Calls for Marjorie Taylor Greene to Face MAGA Primary Challenge - Truthout - "The former Trump adviser and other MAGA Republicans are turning on Greene for allying herself with Kevin McCarthy."
The House Speaker. Some 20 members voted for some other candidate in some of the votes:  2023 Speaker of the United States House of Representatives election
Greene said she agreed with some of her MAGA colleagues’ criticisms of the debt bill but ultimately defended it against an onslaught of right-wing backlash.

“If you have to eat a shit sandwich, you want to have sides, OK? It makes it much better,” Greene told reporters just outside McCarthy’s office last week. “So what I’m looking for is, I’m looking for some sides and some desserts.”

Bannon, who has frequently hosted Greene on his podcast, took to the right-wing platform Gettr to call for Greene to face a primary challenge from “Real MAGA.”
Other right-wingers joined in.
Far Right Turns on Marjorie Taylor Greene—and MTG Hits Back in Text to Matt Gaetz
“I 100 percent support a challenge to MTG, and look forward to meeting and helping a serious challenge to her,” Stew Peters told The Daily Beast.

One figure of the far right, activist and former Florida congressional candidate Laura Loomer, told The Daily Beast she’s already exploring a primary against Greene. As of now, Loomer doesn’t live in Georgia—let alone Greene’s district—but that hasn’t stopped her from wishcasting.

“She took a job from me when she publicly accused me of being crazy... and told Trump not to hire me,” Loomer told The Daily Beast. “I think it’s only fair that I get a shot at taking her job, too.”

“You know what Donald Trump always says? An eye for an eye,” she added.

Loomer went on to claim that Republican officials in Georgia have been trying to recruit her to run in Greene’s seat, though she wouldn’t provide any evidence backing up that claim.
Laura Loomer lives in Florida, and she has run for Congress there, without any success. If she ran in MTG's district, then MTG would likely ridicule her as a carpetbagger.

The Daily Beast has gotten a long message written by MTG to Matt Gaetz, a message which contains
“I have almost the same identical voting record as Thomas Massie, the most fiscally conservative member of Congress. And I voted with him on this bill,” Greene wrote in the lengthy text, referring to the debt limit deal. “And Bannon, who was senior counsel to Trump in the WH and responsible for the first debt ceiling increase bc Bannon is reckless and no where near fiscally responsible, is now telling everyone I should be primaried.”

“I just had a town hall in Cobb County last night in the most populated area in my district and it was extremely successful. Standing ovation when I went in and standing ovation when I left,” Greene continued.

...
“Steve, Loomer, and any other POS attacking me will not beat me,” she wrote. “Because of that people have been reaching out to me because they don’t like what Steve is doing to me… I’m at a place in my life where removing toxic and bad people out of my life makes me very happy.”

...
“I donated to We Build The Wall campaign. I remember how it said 100% of the donations went to building the wall,” she wrote. “I was one of the many naive people that believed in people and movements because I hoped so badly good things could happen.”

...
“Steve and I aren’t getting back together,” she wrote to Gaetz. “And if he keeps it up I’ll take the house and kids. I hope you send it to Steve. Because I’m done.”

The loss of MJT is an improvement. Every time the Freedom Caucus loses a member, their collective intelligence goes up. That will be true when the last one leaves.

how do you expect her to be familiar with things that happened before she was born?? Sheesh…

I once noted that MTG once showed up to a GA election to assert her conspiracy theories and then to leave, but I can't find a source on that.

Marjorie Taylor Greene Twitter Suspended After Trans 'Vengeance' Warning
Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene claimed that her congressional Twitter account has been suspended after sharing unfounded information about a "Trans Day of Vengeance" in the wake of the Nashville school shooting.
Seems like the sort of thing that she would find very plausible, that some villain would act very villainous.

Greene has introduced an amendment to the National Defense Authorization Act that would force the president to withdraw the U.S. from NATO
Amendment No. 6 directs the president to withdraw the U.S. from NATO. My amendment would direct the president withdraw from NATO. They are not a reliable partner whose defense spending should be paid for by American citizens. For the better part of the last decade, Germany has contributed only around 1% of its GDP to finance NATO obligations while the United States is paying around 4% of our GDP to defend NATO countries. The United States has been financing and promising to defend NATO countries for decades and paying more than its fair share. Western European countries could and should be stepping up their financial contributions to ensure the security of NATO. Instead, they are entirely beholden to Russia, and the U.S. taxpayer is expected to foot the bill.
Trump's anti-NATO talking points.

Trying to scare voters by saying Biden is continuing the policies of the president so popular he got elected 4 times.

and 'Big Labor'? those greedy, fat cat laborers, trying to take everything away from... uh... look, the border wall!!!

Marjorie's only concern is herself. She started her political career as a QAnon enthusiast.

I don't think she has the mental capacity to understand what QAnon is. It was just a trendy thing among her target voters. Once that became a hindrance, she dropped it.

There's no reason to think she understands QAnon any more than she understands the policies of FDR or LBJ. This is the woman who squats in the hall of the House office building and yells insults through the mail slot of a fellow Congressperson.

Desperate Kevin wanted to drive a wedge into the Freedom Caucus, so he offered Marjorie a seat at the grown ups table. Unfortunately, Marjorie doesn't know which is the salad fork and which fork should be stuck in Lauren Boeberts eye. It wasn't so bad that she called Lauren a bitch, but she called her a little bitch. In a group known for intolerance, the Freecauc is not going to tolerate that sort of talk. If she had called Lauren a whore, it probably wouldn't have been mentioned again.

Marjorie has the political instincts of a honey badger. She wants to be a big fish and any pond will do. Right now, the ponds are drying up.

Derec, Hunter Biden is an admitted drug addict who used prostitutes. Everyone knows that, but this kind of thing only shows the lengths to which some Republicans will go to display their hatred of Democrats. Also, this is the kind of picture that spoiler tags are meant for, since instant displays of pornographic content aren't a good thing for everyone, especially if they are reading IIDB threads in a public place.
