The Race For 2024

Jeff -agrees with Tucker's producer on Fox viewers on Twitter: "So, it looks like the DeSantis livestream was about 1/4 as popular as a giraffe giving birth and 2/3 as popular as AOC playing a video game on Twitch. Weak numbers and ratings. (link)" / Twitter
The numbers:
  • DeSantis 2024 launch -- 300 K
  • April the Giraffe gives birth -- 1200 K
  • AOC plays video game on Twitch -- 430 K
  • Buzzfeed makes watermelon explode -- 807 K
  • Drake plays Fortnite -- 628 K
  • Cristiano Ronaldo accidentally records himself in sauna -- 700 K

That also means an exploding watermelon is twice as popular as a twitching AOC.

It is quite disheartening though that this thread has largely degenerated into one posting tweets that are making fun of Republicans rather than any attempt at a serious discussion of the 2024 cycle. Dems are in serious danger of losing 2024 with Biden being highly unpopular and older than dirt. It is perfectly possible you lot will guffaw yourselves into opposition again.

Serious discussion? You want to talk about why we don't want the country to fall to neo-fascism?

It's entirely possible he does.

It's entirely possible he does.
No it is not.

It is quite hysterical to assume that if Dems do not maintain some sort of perpetual one-party rule, we are in danger of sliding into fascism. One is reminded of actually existing socialist countries always using fear-mongering against "fascists", "imperialists" and other assorted counterrevolutionaries to keep their grip on power.

Official name of the Berlin Wall was "Anti-fascist protection rampart". If you were against it, you were a "fascist".

I do not support one party rule, nor has Biden so much as suggested such a policy. But Trump and DeSantis are obviously supporters of fascist principles. That makes the issue of whom to vote for in 2024 a fairly simple one. What is there to discuss, really? DeSantis has made it plain that he wants all of my trans brothers and sisters to be targets of state persecution, and anyone who thinks bi men like myself aren't next is a goddamned fool. Trump and DeSantis both see the president as the "biggest of the big men on top", a position of unchecked authority that supporters and opponents alike must kowtow to, nevermind democracy. Trump is an vain idiot who leaves talentless cronies in charge of important offices, and DeSantis an idiot who thinks he can micromanage all of it himself. Even if I supported their medieval morals, I would not be so stupid as to think a minority party could forever oppose the common democratic will with guns and rhetoric alone. There's no rational choice here but to oppose such designs on the country.

Sure, but "one party rule" has such a ring to it. So scary, foreboding and menacing... you can't expect right wing extremists to refrain from the use of the phrase, no matter how remote or irrelevant their faux fear of "one party rule" by Democrats (a fear that immediately goes away when it's THEIR party threatening one-party rule).

Right now however, there is only one party that is interested in perpetuating American democracy. The other party, having sold out to an autocratic ideal, is going to have to re-earn its stripes to participate in the constitutionally designed democratic system that operated in this country for near 250 years. It was never perfect, but did generally tend toward the vision of "liberty and justice for all".

Then Trump came along, and sold a racist, fear-fueled vision of white supremacy. That vision has brought the Republican party from full control of both houses of Congress and the Whitehouse, to clinging to a razor thin majority in one house of Congress, controlled by a sold-out dysfunctional caucus of crazies and opportunists. The last desperate measure of the wannabe ruling class, is to leverage their control of the House and the pursestrings of government, to bring about a disaster on a scale that will help them justify the establishment of autocracy and the abolition of democracy.
I don't think it will work, but that kind of soothsaying is above my pay grade.

The magats sure do get triggered so easily.

Oooh such drama!!
They're passing laws. Arresting people. I think we're a bit past "drama".

“trans brothers and sisters” makes me laugh. How do you tell which is which?

Anyway, calm down love, you’ll be fine.

Just ask.

Rights aren't granted unless they're claimed. And you are not my love. I will be fine, but only because I am paying attention, and so are a lot of other people thankfully.

You go around asking people’s gender? A bit weird but ok.

Paying attention to what exactly? The nonsense that you imagine?

It's quite hysterical to assume that if the Republican Party were to disappear up its own fundament(alism) (as it seems intent on doing) that this would turn the American two party system into a one party system.

The Republicans can (and should) be replaced by a different and less batshit crazy political party, and your daft two party system can carry on without them, and without becoming a one party state.

It's also noticeable that, as usual, the fascists are making an accusation that is in fact a confession. They genuinely can't believe that their opponents don't share their nefarious aims, so they keep on blurting out their intentions, in the form of insinuations that their opponents intend those things.

I am automatically skeptical of any assertion that today’s Republicans genuinely believe or disbelieve anything. Their penchant for accusing others of their own misdeeds or planned misdeeds, arises more out of simple fear of culpability than from any sincere belief that others are just as dishonest, conniving and self centered as they are.

All too often we see Republicans admit that fascism is their desired objective. They don't believe in the will of the people--just look at all the attempts to limit ballot initiatives once they started imposing abortion rules the people disagree with. Or this example of saying the quiet part out loud:

Just because Moscow labels anything they don't like "fascist" doesn't make them right.

Quit thinking you're so important! :)

I think you're in third place behind the gays.
