Exclusive: One in 10 Republicans less likely to vote for Trump after guilty verdict, Reuters/Ipsos poll finds

WASHINGTON, May 31 (Reuters) - Ten percent of Republican registered voters say they are less likely to vote for Donald Trump following his felony conviction for falsifying business records to cover up a hush money payment to a porn star, according to a Reuters/Ipsos poll that closed on Friday.
The two-day poll, conducted in the hours after the Republican presidential candidate's conviction by a Manhattan jury on Thursday, also found that 56% of Republican registered voters said the case would have no effect on their vote and 35% said they were more likely to support Trump, who has claimed the charges against him are politically motivated and has vowed to appeal.

The potential loss of a tenth of his party's voters is more significant for Trump than the stronger backing of more than a third of Republicans, since many of the latter would be likely to vote for him regardless of the conviction.
Among independent registered voters, 25% said Trump's conviction made them less likely to support him in November, compared to 18% who said they were more likely and 56% who said the conviction would have no impact on their decision.

Does that stack with the 1 in 5 Republicans still voting for Nikki Haley?

He's a felon. He's a criminal – and he is the first president in US history to be convicted of such ostensibly serious offences. Every time that jury foreman pronounced the word 'Guilty' in the Manhattan court on Thursday, he should by all normal logic have been dealing a death-blow to Donald Trump's hopes of regaining the White House. He said it not just once but 34 times. This was no ordinary political assassination. This was a machine-gun mob-style hit-job on Trump.
Surely no one would vote for a convicted felon – let alone one who might actually begin his term of office in the New York correctional facility in Sing Sing. Surely this was the end of his poll lead, they said. Surely this was the end of his run altogether...
And then the first poll appeared. To the evident amazement of the pundits it appeared that most voters were indifferent to the verdict – by quite a large majority. But at least in the poll I saw there was an astonishing 15 per cent who were now more likely to vote for him, after the conviction, than they were before. The American people have looked at this case, and in spite of all the portentous claims about its HISTORIC importance, they have concluded that it was, by and large, a load of stunted-up old nonsense.

Well I hope this has more stick than the percentage of liberals who will leave the country if Trump gets elected.

Actually I like that the jury took about a day and a half to return a verdict. It shows they gave it due consideration but were all confident in their conclusion. Anything sooner and they would have looked like 12 angry Democrats.

Not counting this November there have been 18 Presidential elections in my lifetime, and the same "candidate" won the popular vote 16 out of 18 times: Did not Bother to Vote. The only exceptions were in 1964 and 2020 when LBJ and Joe Biden respectively eked out tiny victories over Did-not-Bother.

Talk about misleading headlines! The big news is the 35% who are MORE likely to vote for a criminal BECAUSE he's been convicted! Sure some of them were going to vote for Trump anyway, but some of the 10% were never going to vote for him anyway.

Almost everyone's mind is made up. Do NOT expect Trump voters to switch to Biden or vice versa. All we can do is root for Biden voters to go to the polls and cast a ballot; and root for Trump voters to stay home.

I don't care if he's spry. I'd literally prefer a frozen bag of tomatoes to Trump. Sure, the bag couldn't make any decisions or communicate in any way, but there are guardrails in place for Presidential incapacitation. Thus, the bag of tomatoes would actually be a better POTUS than Trump.

Texas Republicans recently received a flyer warning that Trump will be told if they fail to vote in the primary.

Texas Republicans reportedly received a warning through a flyer sent to their homes before Tuesday’s primary runoff election. Viral posts on Reddit indicate that recipients in Victoria and Denton, spanning the opposite ends of Southeast and Northeast Texas, received this mailer.

“We see you haven’t voted yet,” the mailer notes. “Your voting record is public. … Your neighbors are watching and will know if you miss this critical runoff election. We will notify President Trump if you don’t vote. You can’t afford to have that on your record.”

The unofficial election notice claims the group will be “sending an official list of Republicans who fail to vote in the upcoming runoff to President Trump.” The mailer then promises to follow up after the election to ensure people voted.

Receiving that would piss me off, and i'd vote against the candidate. (but i'm voting against Rump anyway.)
