The Race For 2024

Immigration is a good thing.
Prove me wrong.

Fearmongers keep on fearmongering.
Ask Africa, the Americas, and Oceania about the dangers of allowing European "traders", "mercernaries", and "missionaries" into the sovereign territories of non-European nations...
Those weren't immigrants.

It's useful to note how the Red/Blue (Elephant/Donkey) divide has evolved in the USA. Throughout much of the 20th century, one could guess which way a person voted by looking at the clothes they wore Monday through Friday! Those with white collars voted for the Rs; those with blue collars voted for the Ds. Of course there were millions of exceptions, but the correlation was very strong.

By 3 or 4 decades ago, religion had replaced career path as the better predictor. Those who went to church every Sunday voted R; non-churchgoers voted D. Again correlation was very high but of course not absolute.

More recently education level has become an excellent predictor. PhDs overwhelmingly vote for the Ds, while high-school dropouts vote overwhelmingly for the Rs. College grads, some college, high school grads form a gradient in the obvious way. Of course education level has an (imperfect) correlation with IQ. AFAIK, researchers haven't determined whether party affiliation correlates even more strongly with IQ than it does with education.

This has had a profound effect on American politics. In the time of the Bushes, at least the GOP was elected based on "Christian values." But what about now? Is the GOP running on "stupid values"? 8-)

As a case in point, consider Dick and Liz Cheney. These two were considered poster kids for the extreme right-wing. They were widely despised but nobody ever called them unintelligent. Their IQs are at least 110+ so it's little surprise they have abandoned the Party which caters to stupidity and now support Harris. (Of course politicians often pursue a path very different from ordinary voters. Ted Cruz, for example, surely has a very high IQ, but he knows how to butter his bread.)

I write all this as preface to my response to Mr. unapologetic. Boards like this with intense political discussions do need input from Republican thinkers but spokesmen for "the right" articulate enough to post on message-boards are hard to come by.

I wasn't sure if TSwizzle is reportable.
Am I the only one who recognizes he is a contrarian? A troll who only posts shit to antagonize people.
Why would anyone read project 2025?
So that you know what the fuck you are talking about.

No need to insult. The IIDB should be very grateful it has a Trump supporter as intelligent, articulate and well-informed as Mr. TSwizzle.

Well, at his rally in Madison Square Garden the audience got warmed up by a 'comedian' telling all kinds of racist jokes.

Makes me wonder what the black and latino people in the audience were thinking.

Just for the record, I have ruled this 2024 race an Unknown. I think the polling can be interpreted to support a widespread Electoral College win for either candidate and it could swing anywhere in between. I think Harris has at least an Al Gore size popular vote win.

It reminds me of Chris Rock going on about women dancing to sexist lyrics because... you know it doesn't apply to me. Trump has made a hard push for the bigoted minority vote. It is the Undiscovered Country for the GOP. The GOP have for decades convinced poor white people to support them despite most of the stuff the GOP supports is against their own personal interests. Stephan Miller saw a last untapped population center in bigoted minorities.

Fake Photo Shows Harris in McDonald's Uniform

ETA: The original post above mine was removed. In case anyone is wondering what it was, see below:

What I find incredible is how Trump can steer the narrative to the most stupid things. Is Kamala Harris really black, did she really work at McDonalds?

It helps deter questions about generally the failure known as his administration, other than packing the courts... which was a bunch of other people's work, oh and a massive budget deficit Corporate Tax cut (about a trillion a year prior to Covid). No wall, no wall funding, no infrastructure deal, no health care plan. And finished it up trying to use a mob to overthrow the election he knew he lost.

No... instead, whether Harris worked at McDonalds after Trump did a cosplay at McDonalds. It actually is amazing and will be studied.

I saw a few minutes of the Madison Square Garden rally.
Never heard of this guy.

Some kind of Roast comedic. Horrible jokes about Porto Rico and blacks.
Fits right in at a tRump show.
I read in the NYT this morning that a couple of Puerto Rican celebrities who has endorsed Trump, withdrew their endorsements. So, maybe the best thing that could happen regarding these racist jokes is it will motivate more Puerto Ricans to vote for Harris. I read that Pa. has more Puerto Ricans than any other state. I hope they will not only vote, but vote for the candidate who doesn't hate them, who didn't throw rolls of paper towels at them after a hurricane and who doesn't have racist comedians showing up at her rallies. That rally was a horrible example of America's Hitler wannabe. Too bad so many people have been drawn into his cult.

I'm not familiar with ProPublica. However, it is interesting how demonized Daily Mail and New York Post get on this forum for being way right wing and unreliable, yet media I see on the left side of the chart gets a free pass on this forum (unless Derec calls it out) and is ranked as more biased (toward the left side) and at least as unreliable. Examples being: Daily Kos, Root, Jacobin, MSNBC, Salon, Daily Beast.
Whataboutism is whining.

I may watch some MSNBC videos but I am unfamiliar with the others you list.

The RW flagship "news" outlets lie outright. MSNBC, Daily Best et al don't do that. Their reporting is heavily slanted but not made up, like that of FOX, NY Post, NewsMax etc.

So that you know what the fuck you are talking about.
Why would any proudly FOXwashed Trumpster want to know what the fuck they're talking about?
It's one thing to be full of shit, and quite another to willing try to feed that shit to other people, which those nice people would NEVER do.

Oh goody, more Moore-Coulter.

Speaking of MSNBC;

MSNBC has been slammed for comparing Donald Trump's rally at Madison Square Garden to a 1939 Nazi gathering at the same venue. Host Jonathan Capehart recalled the Nazi rally when speaking about Trump's event on Sunday, saying that 'in 1939, more than 20,000 supporters of a different fascist leader, Adolf Hitler, packed the Garden for a so-called pro-America rally.' MSNBC showed images of the Nazi rally at the Garden, complete with goose-stepping and Hitler salutes, as Capehart accused Trump of holding a fascist event at the iconic venue.

But it wasn't just MSNBC that made the controversial comparison - democratic candidate for VP Tim Walz said: 'There’s a direct parallel to a big rally that happened in the mid-1930s at Madison Square Garden.'

Democrats
have increasingly started to brand Trump a fascist and liken him to Adolf Hitler in recent weeks, as liberal fears of a Trump landslide increase.

Daily Mail

Despite the full weight of the MSM behind KKKackling KKKamala, she is still likely heading to defeat.

Aw how butthurt are you going to be if it takes another attack on the Nation's Capitol to make your fascist dream come true?

You're quoting a tabloid's attack on legitimate reporting as evidence of the unreason of others, I see. An interesting strategy! A bit unhinged, but interesting.

Their lead story at present is an attack on what most would consider a core American legal principle, that a suspect is to be considered innocent until proven guilty in court. The second questions whether a judge should the right to block a campaign contribution whose legality has been challenged. Do you likewise find those arguments convincing, since they come from an objective, trustworthy source? How often do you believe something just because the DailyMail prints it?

And Metaphor was an asshole.
Like that made him unusual on the Internet, or this forum.

I loved to hate his opinions and also miss him.

Oh well.
HWIC stepped down for HNIC. Things move on.
Tom
I never really thought of him as an asshole. I recall he mostly made fun of stuff like cultural appropriation, and woke nonsense, much of which I pretty much agreed with him on. I thought he did a pretty good job of defending himself from the progressive dogpiles he was constantly up against. He would get fired up, but I don't recall him slinging poo like so many here still do.
And yet he got banned for violating forum rules (i.e. for "flinging poo"). I did have a fond place in my heart for him because even though we disagreed on many things, he could make me chuckle.
