NEWSCUM?
AOC?
MAMDANI?
TALLARICO?
Who will dare to try to depose the duly* elected King Donald?

* by virtue of overwhelming force

Offer up your vision of the 2028 political landscape!

Mamdani cannot run by law.

Tallarico, even if he is elected in Texas, will not run on a slender resume of two years as Texas senator. Could be future candidate, though.

AOC? Nah.

Newsome? He’ll probably run, but he doesn’t impress me. Overly packaged, overly slick.

Osoff might work but he has definitively ruled it out.

The rest of the field so far strikes me as mediocrities and hacks.

Dens’ best bet might be Beshear or Kelly. I wouldn’t call either a mediocrity or a hack, contra what I wrote above.

I really like Beshear. I've seen him interviewed. I think he's very smart and realistic, without acting like an asshole. The fact that he's easily won twice as governor in a bright red state is very impressive. If he runs, I'll vote for him in the primaries. I also think Shapiro could be a good candidate as PA isn't exactly blue and he's been the governor there twice, I think. I would like to see a governor run as I think having that type of administrative experience is important, especially after the mess the current idiot has made. Having said that, almost any Dem would be a vast improvement over any Repbug.

I been mulling over the fate of the R party in a post-Felon environment. Will it splinter into two factions? I could see one faction trying to continue The Felon’s lawlessness and attacks upon democracy, and another one “correcting” itself to pre-trump/bush conservatism while aggressively distancing itself from Trump’s fetid legacy.
Would one such faction prevail over the other, or would the entire party devolve into one huge squabble-fest?
Hard to envision the wreckage left behind by Trump, ever rising to the level of a serious political party.
Thoughts?

The fork in the Republican party is between the race nationalists and the evangelicals, not between decency and indecency.

Are the race nationalists and the evangelicals different?
Ohhh, yes. The thing is, their coalition is strung together with silly putty. They agree on the race thing, obviously, but that's about it. The former want a technocratic state led from the big cities by corporate nitwits like Peter Thiel and Elon Musk. Several of their luminaries are openly gay billionaires, or adulterers working through their fourth wife, who pretend to be moderate, "classic liberals" on a regular basis. None of which is okay with Evangelicals.

The latter want a overtly anti-secular theocracy led by someone who reminds them of their local pastor. In politics, they pursue the "seven hills" of the so-called culture wars and long for a country of yeoman farmers who hate data centers and read the Bible on Sundays as they imagine their great-grandparents all did. None of which is actually okay with a "race realist" libertarian who just wants the government out of their hair so they can claim the privileges they think they were promised.

These are contradictory goals, and they fight like dogs all the time. It's a huge part of the reason why the TACO thing happens. It's not that Trump is worried about losing the support of Democrats, it's that he knows his own faction starts eating itself alive whenever one of its leadership has a public scandal and thus appears weak enough that getting them replaced seems plausible.

I think you make some good points, but I can’t get behind the idea that most race nationalists want a technocratic state led by tech bros. In fact a great many of them and possibly most oppose data centers. Also, most race nationalists are based in rural areas and want nothing to do with “elites” from big cities. I think the overlap between race nationalists and evangelicals is pretty considerable.

Of course, a lot of tech bros are race nationalists, that is true, but I am talking about the average person who lives in rural America, is racist, and has little or no knowledge of technocracy and is likely to oppose data centers. A real overlap here is that a great many people on the so-called right and left oppose data centers and the rise of AI.

Oh, yeah, for sure there is overlap. Especially where the public is concerned. I was thinking more in terms of the way the party is run and who is in charge of it, but it is obvious that most Republicans you meet on the street want a "Christian government" and an end to all forms of government welfare they don't personally receive. I don't get the sense that most people pay much attention to what is actually happening in the White House. The average response to be asked about Peter Thiel is "Who's that?"

For the Democrats, it's a jump ball. Whoever does well in the early primaries and doesn't run out of money will be the front runner, but there's way too many to narrow it down today. At this point, any Dem Senator, Representative, or Governor has a shot.

On the other hand, the GOP's jump ball is going to be a bloody cat fight. It would be bad enough if the election were held today, but Trump has two more years to deepen his domestic and foreign policy tar pit, from which no Republican candidate can escape. I'm going to enjoy listening to Vance, Rubio, and Hegseth try to explain why none of this was their fault, while pointing fingers at the other two.

Their only real hope is Trump dies before the next election and they can all go with the "Madman Trump" scenario.

They'll do the same thing they did with Romney, McCain and Bush Jnr. Pretend they never supported him and it was "someone else" who get him elected. Remember when this was the face of the new Republican party?

Who?

If the Democrats could get someone who isn't beholden/hostage to the left/right/big money/big tech/nutters/party machine of all types then they might have a chance.

Oh. I see the problem.

Well, someone that I enjoyed watching bash Trump, a solid liberal Democrat. Illinois Governor JB Pritzker is a multi-billionaire.
I guess that he'd not be beholden to big money except for his own.
