Trump just won

So Hillary is going to prison if she is still in the country by the time of inauguration. But what about Steven Colbert now?

Thank you America. You just proved you are indeed the stupidest people of the world. Especially democrats. Having the absolute majority and not voting for your future.

Thank God I don't have children. Goodbye climate. Goodbye government-paid infrastructure/education etc. Hooray for the rich getting richer!

Not sure how the Dutch education system is, but the number of people who voted for Clinton is higher than the ones who voted for Trump.

Not according to the current BBC numbers. They show Trump at 48% to Clinton's 47.2% of the popular vote. That is pretty close to the electoral college numbers.

CA declared with <60% of the vote counted. Once the west coast finishes, between WA, OR, and CA she will have the popular vote.

Not saying this accounts for the difference, but your point means a bit less given the deck bernie had stacked against him in media coverage and at the voting booths proper.

Right!! You think that the media was more stacked against Bernie than Trump? The public went for the guy with the more negative coverage.

But what do you mean "voting booths proper"?

The media went more for Trump because Trump is an awful person who has done awful things. Bernie is a little angel. He's boring to write about. Therefore they didn't. Incidentally, just the kind of guy you want running a country.

My take on tonight's shockers:

1) Much of this played exactly as expected. Nevada, slightly leaning Clinton, went robustly to Clinton. Colorado, a key state, was also secure for Clinton. Virginia, as expected, also went for Clinton. Florida and NC were tossup states that (in Nate Silver's analysis) barely leaned to Trump. As it turned out, they more strongly leaned to Trump and he won them. Ohio, as expected, overwhelmingly went for Trump. At this point it was assumed that only one remaining (but unlikely) path to victory were available to Trump: Penn.

2) Pennsylvania was the other key state needed by Trump...he unexpectedly won it (eventually) by a thin margin. It was thought this state would be the only "path to victory", if Trump failed win both Nevada and NH (and he did fail in Nevada).

3) The real shocker was Wisconsin, which Trump won with a 3 percent margin. In fact, he won that long before Penn. was settled. In the meantime, Michigan was/is still too close to call.

The pollsters missed the vote badly in three states: Wisconsin, Michigan, and Pennsylvania. Apparently there was a great, white, lumpen block of unlikely voters that found Trump to "think like them". In addition, it seems that black voters did not turnout.

The other winner is Nate Silver. While he gave the probability edge to Clinton (a 2 to 1 probability of winning) the other modelers have excoriated him for being too generous to Trump. Upshot, Princeton, Predictwise, Kos (etc.) all dismissed Silver's concerns over the undecided vote, turnout, etc. All of them insisted that Clinton's probability of winning was 85 to 87 percent (or more).

IBD will, as it did in 2012, likely come out as "the pollster" who nailed it (while Rasmussen and LA Times will be close seconds).

And America has elected its first twitter addicted, name calling, vulgar, bullying whack-a-doodle President.
