Trump VS COVID-19 Threat

Trump's Council to Re-Open America is a Basket of Buffoonery

Mark Meadows, Ivanka Trump, Jared Kushner, Steven Mnuchin, Larry Kudlow, Robert Lighthizer, Wilbur Ross
Check out Trump's Council on Re-Opening America. It includes no one in the medical profession.

It would be difficult to assemble a more ridiculous team without purposely attempting to do so, but there it is.

...
Not only did Trump hand pick a ridiculous team, he Tweeted that it was his right and his right alone to re-open the economy.

West Coast Governors Announce "Pact" For Reopening Economies . News | OPB

Washington, Oregon and California announce Western States Pact | Governor Jay Inslee
  • Our residents’ health comes first. As home to one in six Americans and gateway to the rest of the world, the West Coast has an outsized stake in controlling and ultimately defeating COVID-19.
  • Health outcomes and science – not politics - will guide these decisions. Modifications to our states’ stay at home orders must be made based off our understanding of the total health impacts of COVID-19, including: the direct impact of the disease on our communities; the health impact of measures introduced to control the spread in communities —particularly felt by those already experiencing social disadvantage prior to COVID-19; and our health care systems’ ability to ensure care for those who may become sick with COVID-19 and other conditions. This effort will be guided by data. We need to see a decline in the rate of spread of the virus before large-scale reopening, and we will be working in coordination to identify the best metrics to guide this.
  • Our states will only be effective by working together. Each state will work with it’s local leaders and communities within its borders to understand what’s happening on the ground and adhere to our agreed upon approach.
That's WA, OR, CA

Some northeast states have also done so.
Pennsylvania One Of Seven States To Work Together On COVID-19 Plans For Reopening | WPSU
... President Trump tweeted earlier in the day that it is up to him, not the governors, when to reopen the states.

But, when asked about that, Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf referred to how state closures have been happening.

"Seeing as how we had the responsibility for closing the state down, I think we probably have the primary responsibility for opening it back up," Wolf said.

He said the key is to make sure people are healthy first, "or the economy’s not going to work.”
That's MA, RI, CT, NY, NJ, PA, DE

The next states to join them may be VT, NH, ME to the north or MD, DC to the south.

So, then why would you expect Trump to have acted sooner? Fauci said that on January 21. So that means you expect Trump...on January 21....to have said, "We're shutting down everything right now!!!!!!"

I remember on January 23, seeing China suddenly shut down Wuhan. That was pretty earth-shaking, right there. It made a lot of people sit up and watch. WHY would the Chinese government do something so incredibly drastic? That's huge. It hurts practically no one but themselves. So WHY would they do that? Curious people wonder. (Trump is a remarkably, pathologically, incurious person). Wondered. It was the talk of the office. Already people were making data visualizations of the number of people who travel through Wuhan and we were assuming Trump would quarantine all incoming travelers. Those of our people still traveling were being warned to take enough clothing to stay put if needed. If the US had done the same thing as China, it would have made sense because of the unprecedented closure of Wuhan. We already assumed something HUGE was going on there. And that it was coming here.

It was at that point that we started talking about repatriating our employees who were working in China. In JANUARY. We worried that the disease would spread and they would be affected, even though they were in a neighboring province, not Hubei. We got back all of our most vulnerable. Then we started working on our other employees, thinking that the US airports would soon close, and they people would be quarantined upon return. By the first week in February, almost everyone was home and we were already asking employees returning to quarantine. Only 3 days at the time,. but that's what we knew.

So would we have been appalled at an airport shut down? No. We expected Trump to shut it down AND QUARANTINE any homecoming Americans.

But he didn't.

Late in January, he stopped non-us citizens from coming back if they'd been to China, but he didn't test or quarantine anyone. Like only the Chinese would get this? Instead He didn't stop anything or anyone except Chinese carriers. And didn't test anyone. And that was the only thing he did for two more months.

By early March we were talking to our employees about taking work home on weekends in case they were told to not come back in on Monday. By mid-March, schools were closed and we worked from home voluntarily if we could, and workplaces closed the week after that.

So why would I have expected trump to act sooner and what would I have expected him to do?

I would have expected him to act with the far superior information he had, by early February, to put all incoming travelers in quarantine and test as many people as possible, tens of thousands a day. And to trace every person who had come home since mid January.

As more grocery workers die, many supermarket employees fear showing up during pandemic - The Washington Post - "At least 41 grocery workers have died of the coronavirus and thousands more have tested positive in recent weeks"
Job postings for grocery clerks have jumped 60 percent in the past four weeks, according to Julia Pollak, a labor economist for the site ZipRecruiter. Supermarkets are increasingly hard-pressed to find and keep staff. Workers are walking out, going on strike and circulating petitions aimed at getting companies such as Amazon, Trader Joe’s and delivery service Instacart to take additional measures to protect their health.

...
More than 1,500 supermarket workers throughout the country have tested positive for the coronavirus, according to the United Food and Commercial Workers International Union, which represents 900,000 grocery employees at chains such as Kroger, Safeway and Giant. Nearly 3,000 members are not working because they are quarantined, hospitalized or awaiting test results, the union said.

Yeah, Clownstick does like to imagine his own version of past events...

https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2020/04/07/trumps-claim-that-he-imposed-first-china-ban/
In any case, the United States certainly was not the first country — by a long shot. We reviewed a list of country actions maintained by the Council on Foreign Relations and cross-checked with official announcements. Six countries imposed travel restrictions even before the World Health Organization declared a global health emergency on Jan. 30. Another six announced travel restrictions that same day, followed by 11 countries (besides the United States) announcing restrictions Jan. 31.

But most countries imposed the restrictions immediately. By the time Trump’s restrictions took effect Feb. 2, an additional 15 countries had taken similar actions — and in some cases enacted even tougher bans. But in any case, that adds up to 38 countries taking action before or at the same time the U.S. restrictions were put in place.
<snip>
The New York Times calculated that at least 430,000 people arrived in the United States on direct flights from China since Jan. 1, including nearly 40,000 in the two months after Trump imposed restrictions. Moreover, screening proceedings of travelers from China have been uneven and inconsistent, the Times said.

Speaking of rewriting history, what Fauci actually said was "This is not a major threat to the people of the United States and this is not something that the citizens of the United States should be worried about right now." which at the time was the correct statement. It's almost as if intelligent adults can learn new facts and adjust their opinions on stuff. Weird.

That is correct. Thank you for proving my point. He said "nothing to worry about right now."

Can you imagine if he did that? Media would've crucified him!! "Fauci says no problem, Trump defies medical expert!!!"

It is curious that you are still unable to directly quote Dr. Fauci, as doing so would destroy the narrative you are attempting to construct. Once again the full quote:
"this is not something that the citizens of the United States should be worried about right now."

Your average American citizen should not have been worried at the time, however, the federal government should have been taking steps to make sure that remained the case, while preparing for a time when that was no longer the case. They did neither, and the first person to blame for that is the ostensible leader of the federal government, Donald Jesus Trump.

For fuck sakes, why is the GOP letting this continue?! The idiots are AWOL on the asshole in the White House.

“When somebody’s the president of the United States, the authority is total. And that is the way it’s gonna be,” Trump told reporters. “It’s total. And the governors know that.”

Soon afterward, CNN reporter Kaitlan Collins let Trump know that his assertion was not true and asked him to explain himself. The president responded: “We’re going to write up papers on this. It’s not gonna be necessary. Because the governors need us one way or the other.”

Pressed to say whether any governor had actually agreed that Trump had the authority to decide when their state would reopen, the president said, “I haven’t asked anybody, because I don’t have to,” and refused to answer further questions about his claim.

...asks the person(?) who said
"by April we will be laughing going,
"Remember how everyone panicked over the coronavirus
because the media started fear mongering?""

First, who said that anyone ever EXPECTED the PINO to do anything?
Second, an actual leader would have immediately asked "what about tomorrow or next week or next month?"
He didn't do that. No, he didn't do ANYTHING. He went golfing.

Nobody thought it was a big deal. The media said there was nothing to worry about. Popular Democrats said there was nothing to worry about. They even encouraged us to go out and hug Asian Americans because there was no fear. Dr. Fauci said we could all go on a cruise if we really wanted to.

Then a few weeks later everyone started blaming Trump for saying that there's no problem.:picardfacepalm:

When Fauci was telling us to all go on a cruise if we really wanted to, Trump was enacting travel bans from white countries, despite being accused of being a white supremacist.

I really only have one question for you at this point Half-Life: when are you going to change your name to Dunning-Kruger?

Because Cuomo is a big whiner. Remember how he sunk 750 million dollars into a failed Tesla solar company? Money for ventilators right there. Yet, it's Trump's fault for Cuomo mismanaging his state.

Trump can't be the scapegoat forever. There's personal responsibility to be had. It's called being a man.
