2022 Midterm Elections - Results and Post Mortem

The idea of a guy from New Jersey sitting in a seat reserved for a Pennsylvanian Senator was definitely troubling.
At least they are neighboring states. Much of Philly suburbia is actually in Jersey.

Btw, how did you feel when the former First Lady of Arkansas was sitting in a seat reserved for a New Yorkan Senator?
If you're going to ask that question you need to put it in the proper context and point out Judge Banshee from FOX was the alternative.

Fetterman's in better shape than Tony DeLuca, another democrat who won by a landslide.

Since Metaphor doesn't understand what an accommodation is for, I'm going to ignore him and go back to the election results.

I said earlier some analysts had called CO-03 for Frisch, but they have taken that back, because they were wrong about what votes were left uncounted. Apparently there's been confusion from that district.

This guy from a local news outlet also called it for Frisch.

But it looks like he's also working with some false assumptions.

Dems still have a shot at the House so this could be an important seat. They did make a pickup in CO-08 which was also crucial to their path. So now it looks like CO-03 and the uncalled California seats are going to decide it. Might not know for days or weeks for some seats.

That wasn't really the issue. Oz really knew nothing about Pennsylvania politics or cared a hoot for it. He was just there to grab the Republican Senate seat.

One difference was that the Clinton's actually bought an expensive home in New York and moved there before the election took place. She and her husband still live there. She was not a native New Yorker, but the voters decided that it wasn't really a reason to vote for Giuliani, who was. In Oz's case, he obviously wasn't interested in the state and didn't do his homework like Hillary did. She earned the trust of the voters.

Accommodations make it irrelevant. You may be aware that someone who is deaf can make a fine senator.
Fetterman's problem is not sensory, but cognitive.

Also, he is recovering and it will become less of a problem over time.
That may be, but to describe it as 'irrelevant' is false. It seems to me also speculation without evidence that it will become better over time.

I don't think that Fetterman's health was irrelevant, but the question for voters was one of choosing between him and his opponent. They both had some issues, but the voters decided that they preferred Fetterman over Oz, who had some real difficulties in figuring out what Pennsylvania was all about. Oz seemed more interested in being a Republican senator than being a senator from Pennsylvania, so the issue of his New Jersey residency became a larger campaign issue than it might otherwise have been.

What kind of accommodations should we make should a paraplegic want to be the center for the Lakers?
If he can play well enough he should get the job. Though it is likely he won’t be able to.

As we know from politics the only thing you need to do to become a politician is to win an election, which Fetterman just did, so he is obviously qualified. Herschel walker is arguably more brain damaged than Fetterman and he could win a senate seat too.

Even dead people have won elections and it’s hard to need more accommodation than that! Though I guess I can concede that they don’t accommodate that. Imagine weekend at Bernie’s style Senator, hehe

One possibility for the House is a 218-217 which would be the most chaotic outcome, and therefore makes it the most likely. 🧠

She worked in the Trump WH and was an election denier, but she did concede. Interestingly, so far the deniers have been conceding when they've lost, which they mostly have. I wonder if it's that they've seen it's not a great winning message, so have gotten the hint to give it up. Or maybe they're fearful of the legal consequences that some deniers have received. Whatever the reason, it is a relief that they are both losing and conceding.

One of the loudest deniers, Kari Lake, though is still in contention in her race.

I was hoping this thread would not degenerate into reposting idiotic tweets by nobodies.
Also, one good feature of this new forum software is ability to resize images easily (like I did here to almost thumbnail size). So, there is no need for those stupid tweets to be blown up like that.
