The Race For 2024

I found a fairly good article that discusses memory and forgetfulness at all ages. I personally think that a few of Biden's recent gaffes are due to the extreme stress he's been under along with the unsubstantiated claims made against him. Any of us, regardless of age, are likely to make similar errors.

Rearrange the following words into a familiar phrase;

Straws Clutching At

It’s laughable that some on here just can’t come to terms with what is plain to see. Brandon is is a feeble minded old man. He was never the brightest but holy shit, he’s way worse now and it’s getting worser :ROFLMAO:
So what should they do about that, if it were true?

Vote for Trump?

Oh good, you understand the meaning of the word worse. If only you put the slightest bit of effort and employed that knowledge in understanding Trump is worse than Brandon and you might understand the current sentiment towards Brandon. I'm starting to wonder if you need to do a cognitive test.

Do you have a source for your claim about why Ms. Carroll was found more believable than Mr. Trump or is it simply impossible for you to accept that a woman can be more credible than a man (especially Mr. Trump)?
That was obviously my opinion based on utter lack of any evidence.
What "source" would you expect to exist, short of the unlikely possibility of jurors coming clean about their motivations?

Poppycock. Poppycock and Phooey.
Fitting title for your post.
You're a grown man but simple fact-checking is beyond your ken?
Did you even know that trials often introduce TESTIMONY?
There was no testimony by any eyewitnesses or anybody offering any independent corroboration.
All you have offered here are statements by two of EJC's friends. Friends often lie for one another, and besides, none of them even claim to be witnesses. Poppycock and phooey indeed!

Or, since they aren't allied with Tucker Carlson, Vladimir Putin and the rest of your Ilk, do you just dismiss what these women swear to under oath?
Contrary to your personal attacks, neither are "my ilk". I also do not see what either one of them has to do with EJC's bogus rape allegation.

Or, since they aren't allied with Tucker Carlson, Vladimir Putin and the rest of your Ilk, do you just dismiss what these women swear to under oath?
I think the answer was contained in the question.
It has nothing to do wit them being women. Or with my opinion of Trump.
There is no evidence for the rape claims. No physical evidence. No witnesses. No recordings.
If a similar claim was made by a woman in a book she was trying to sell accusing a Democratic leader (like Biden or Newsom) of rape at some unspecified time three decades ago you (as would Swammerdami and the rest of his ilk) would be skeptical of those claims. Especially when the accuser seems to have lifted the story from an episode of Law and Order SVU.

The House belongs to Trump.
It does?
The Courts belong to Trump.
That's demonstrably bogus. He keeps losing. Even when he should have won, like the zero evidence EJC case.
If we give him the WH it’s all over; this Country is officially an unredeemable shithole at that point.
I do hope he does not win. But I also think you are exaggerating.

MOST rapes are unwitnessed. The "gold standard" for corroboration is accuser, with nothing to gain, making a CONTEMPORANEOUS declaration to a friend. You address this topic and didn't even know that? :confused2: ("Nothing to gain" because no public accusation(*) was made.)

(* - And I will add -- since Ilk supporters are eager to assume good people behave like the Ilk -- no blackmail demands were made.)

And -- although you've carefully deleted it from your quote here, YOU claimed there was doubt about the year of the rape. Instead the witnesses pinned it down.

Yes, the Ilk you support has no qualms about lying under oath. Like all the Ilkists you seem eager to deflect attention from Ilkists' sins and crimes by accusing good-spirited people of the Ilkists' own sins, e.g. perjury. Shame on you!

I'm sharing this article. It's not behind a pay wall, so some of you might learn a few things by reading the entire thing. Yes. We all forget things all the time, and it's true that as we age, we often have more trouble remembering names, but that has nothing to do with dementia.
I do not think he has dementia per se, but his age is getting to him. And that may spell trouble. In the general election, he will have to be exposed a lot more than he is now. Hell, he is even avoiding the Super Bowl interview.
Carville: Biden not accepting Super Bowl interview is a ‘sign’
The Hill said:
Democratic strategist James Carville said President Biden not sitting for an interview before the Super Bowl is a “sign” of his administration having little confidence in him.

“It’s the biggest television audience, not even close, and you get a chance to do a 20, 25-minute interview on that day, and you don’t do it, that’s a kind of sign that the staff or yourself doesn’t have much confidence in you, there’s no other way to read this,” Carville said in a recent interview on CNN’s “Smerconish.”
[...]
Biden hit back at the report in a fiery press conference Thursday night, defending his memory and mental capability.
“My memory’s fine. … Take a look at what I’ve done since I became president. … How did that happen? I guess I just forgot what was going on,” he said.
In the same press conference, however, the president confused the president of Egypt with the president of Mexico.

More about that gaffe.
'They've both got pyramids': Biden gaffe sparks meme

Plus, plenty of people, not just Paul Krugman, have had private conversations with Biden and they claim that he's sharp and able to remember important things and concepts. The claim that Biden is losing it, is simply ageist and without evidence.
We see evidence of his age getting to him in video clips when he misspeaks, misremembers, and generally speaks slowly and haltingly.
He will have to endure a grueling general election campaign season. Do you really think he is up for it? That he will cut a formidable figure that will encourage people to come out and vote for him? I am concerned.

Biden has had a lifelong speech disability, much of which he has overcome. It doesn't mean he has dementia or is losing it. It simply means that it takes longer for him to pull up the correct words or names at times. Like most older adults, he often forgets names, again that isn't a sign of dementia. A book I read on aging discussed how the older we get, the more data we hold in our brains, often leading us to take more time to pull up the data we need.
And you don't think that this means that we need younger candidates to run for presidency?

Finally, to be honest, I would vote for a mildly impaired Biden if he actually was impaired, over a totally deranged, mad man like Trump any day. Trump is a threat to our country, while Biden can help improve it. Sadly, the Trump cult is alive and well, so we may be facing the biggest challenge our country has faced since the Civil War. I'll finish with one more quote from the linked article.
By no means do I want Trump to win. That is precisely why I am concerned about Biden's performance.

WaPo said:
Aging also “magnifies any vulnerabilities that already exist,” he said. “If someone had difficulties speaking as a young adult, for instance, then getting older is likely to worsen the problem.”
At the same time, older brains can be especially susceptible to stress, distraction and fatigue, he said, all of which worsen memory recall.
And running for president, as well as being president, are tiring and stressful. You do not think he will be tired and stressed out in September and October? The article supports my point!
“An older brain is a wiser brain. It has experience to draw on,” Miller said.
It's a tradeoff though. Vitality vs. experience. And the optimum occurs well before the age of 80 in my opinion.

No evidence is no evidence. Since there is no evidence, the court should have found for the defendant.
The "gold standard" for corroboration is accuser, with nothing to gain, making a CONTEMPORANEOUS declaration to a friend. You address this topic and didn't even know that? :confused2: ("Nothing to gain" because no public accusation(*) was made.)
That's not the "gold standard". That would be actual evidence such as physical evidence or disinterested witnesses.
Speaking of physical evidence. Was that dress that EJC supposedly kept in the back of her closet ever tested?
(* - And I will add -- since Ilk supporters are eager to assume good people behave like the Ilk -- no blackmail demands were made.)
I assume people are capable of lying for their friends or for a cause they perceive to be righteous. Regardless of political affiliation.
And -- although you've carefully deleted it from your quote here, YOU claimed there was doubt about the year of the rape. Instead the witnesses pinned it down.
I remember the accuser herself not pinning it down. This friend (she is not a witness) claims it was 1996. Ok. Anything in the records from that year that is an objective corroboration of anything? Not just self-serving statements by her friends.
Yes, the Ilk you support has no qualms about lying under oath.
I definitely do not support those you so childishly dub "the ilk". Nevertheless, nobody deserves to be the victim of a false rape accusation. Not even Trump.
If somebody from your ilk (such as Governor Goodhair) were to be accused of a supposed rape from 30 years ago with similar lack of evidence you'd be singing a very different tune. I would not. I disagree with a lot of things with Newsom politically. But I would support him if he was victim of a similar witch hunt.

Like all the Ilkists you seem eager to deflect attention from Ilkists' sins and crimes by accusing good-spirited people of the Ilkists' own sins, e.g. perjury. Shame on you!
I am not accusing them of anything. I say that it is a possibility, as they are not disinterested witnesses - they are friends of the plaintiff. As such, their statements should not be considered evidence. Certainly not sufficient evidence to find for the plaintiff absent any other evidence - and there clearly isn't any other evidence.

I assume people are capable of lying for their friends or for a cause they perceive to be righteous. Regardless of political affiliation.
Have you already forgotten they took an oath on penalty of perjury? :confused2:

Your rejecting the findings of a New York jury is par for the course for your Ilk. You are so very very proud of the American Justice System, so fascinated by the Second, Fifth, Second, Sixth, and Second Amendments to the Constitution, so certain that justice is served when one of your Ilk is acquitted; when the cowardly teeny-bopper who gets an assault rifle on his birthday is acquitted of killing (with the jury not even allowed to rule on illegal gun possession).

Yet when a jury unanimously finds your Orange Messiah guilty of assault and defamation, you whinge and whine. I suppose if your Ilk gets the Orange Messiah reinstated there will be a ruling that New Yorkers and Californians are no longer eligible to serve on juries, that a case like Carroll's defamation would have to be tried in Alabama, Oklahoma or another of the You-Nighted States.

You tell us over and over that you're not a fan of Donald Trump, and under the rules we must pretend to believe you. It does become amusing and informative to listen to you! What do you think of the 91 criminal counts against your boy? All the charges are Trumped up? It was Hunter Biden that really did the deeds??

I would have no problem with a younger person running for president, if such a person had challenged Biden and if that person was well qualified. I just haven't seen anyone interested in the position and people have been throwing out names of people who are obviously not even interested in the job. I am deeply concerned that Trump will win, partly because the media can't seem to stop talking about Biden's age. I read another article yesterday that said, despite Biden being in better condition than Trump, both physically and mentally, Trump is good at getting a crowd all worked up, and he's a big man with a loud voice died hair and makeup, that gives some people the impression he can do the job, while Biden is slender, with a raspy voice, making him seem older. That is something I find very concerning. But, Biden isn't senile, while I'm not so sure about Trump, who is totally unfit in so many ways to be president again.

People are still saying that Biden should stop down or his wife should talk him into stepping down. Apparently she thinks he's perfectly capable of doing the job and she knows him better than we do. So, who is this younger person who you think should come out and challenge Biden? Yesterday, I heard that there was a group urging Michele Obama to run. WTF! The woman has no interest in running for president. In fact, based on everything I've read, she wasn't all that happy when her husband took on the position. You can't force someone to run for president and considering all the hatred and division in the country, I can fully understand why other than Biden, only a few loonies want the job.

540 votes
There are 1,320,070 voters in Nevada (2011 figure); 59,984 votes would be 4.5% of these people voting for Trump. The other 95.5% didn't vote, or voted for Binkley.

Congratulations on totally missing the point.

With a psychopath like DJT threatening to take over the country, any sensible person should be itching desperately to cast a ballot against him. I might unhook my ventilator if that were the only way to get to my voting station and click 'No.'

Yet out of over 1 Million Nevada voters, only 540 bothered to vote against Trump. That's 0.04%.

It is about time.

.....
Legislation introduced Tuesday by a pair of Democratic lawmakers would close a loophole that lets billionaires donate assets to dark money organizations without paying any taxes.

The U.S. tax code allows write-offs when appreciated assets such as shares of stock are donated to a charity, but the tax break doesn't apply when the assets are given to political groups.

What are the chances of it becoming law, given the current state of the House?

Well, if he’s really that bad then surely he will lose to the opposing party’s superior candidate. Oh, wait…

Are you saying that Trump winning the next election is beyond the realms of possibility?
Nope. Just saying that Trump is not a superior candidate in the mental realm, in addition to being a criminal.

At least you agree Brandon's mental faculties are indeed shot.
Do you remember when you said the Secret Service didn't wear uniforms?

Great stuff there.

Netenyahu, who has had extensive dealings with Biden was asked
by a reporter what he thought of Biden's mental acuity. Netenyahu
stated he always for Biden to be sharp, well informed, and quite
rational.so much for claims Biden is senile.

And now, Trump has made it clear that he'd be happy if Russia invaded the rest of Europe on his watch.

No, seriously. He said he'd encourage it.

Donald Trump has claimed he would encourage Russia to attack NATO members who don't pay their share of the alliance's budget.
The ex-president made the alarming promise to rile up a cheering crowd, that spilled on to the streets outside his rally in Conway, South Carolina, on Saturday.

'The president of a big country stood up and said "if we don't pay, and we're attacked by Russia, will you protect us?" I said you didn't pay, you're delinquent? He said, "yes, let's say that happened".
'No, I would not protect you, in fact I would encourage them (Russia) to do whatever the hell they want, you gotta pay! You gotta pay your bills.'
