Things that make you laugh...

Typically though, laying hens have brown feathers and broilers have white feathers, at least in this part of the world.
That’s weird. Around here, laying hens have feathers; broilers do not. 🫤
I can’t imagine your broilers taste very good, with all those burned feathers.

Pretty sure the white commercial meat birds are Leghorns. The Brown egg birds are definitely Isa Browns, which came into their own when everybody decided brown eggs are healthier. ( not true, makes no difference)
I find brown eggs shells are a little more brittle and fall into the food a little more than the whites.
Use an unbroken bit to get it out.

You know, all this talk about chickens made me wonder, what exactly are chicken fingers? I didn't think chickens had fingers?

Which leads me to another thing. If a chicken asked you to pull her finger, would you pullet?

Are you sure it's not just that you can't see the white shell fragments so easily against the white albumen?

The albumin is clear before it is cooked.

Speculation: the brown eggs are from a VERY commercial operation where the birds get the absolute minimum of shell grit.

I am chicken reminiscing sooo much this week.

Until I got the good guts on keeping chooks (and sometimes when one of the girls was sick) I would occasionally get eggs that were perfect, white, yolk, membrane, just no shell at all. I soon learned to give them access to all the grit they wanted. Lovely thick shells, no danger of osteoporosis for the girls.

I sheepishly admit to not knowing that are more chicken egg colors than just white and brown up until recently. I became aware of this in my mid-50's when I was doing some minor modifications on the chicken coop of an early (and wealthy) Facebook employee (he spend over $30,000 to build an elaborate chicken coop to entertain and educate his young kids, only to find out afterwards that the kids were scared to death of the chickens. Oh well. Easy come, easy go). In the coop were bluish and green eggs. I assumed it was either a practical joke, or eggs leftover from an Easter egg hunt. Nope:

What Chickens Lay Green Eggs?

Its a little odd that mainstream grocery stores seem to not carry colored eggs. I would think they would be a big hit.

They did a lot of studies - consumers took literally DECADES to start buying brown eggs. And still any color but brown or white failed to sell. Now, some supermakets offer a rainbow of options and the bright colors tend to cost time and half what white or brown eggs do - like they went from "sickly" to "designer" in the consumer gestalt.

I think we should remove the eagle as national bird and make it the chicken. Benjamin Franklin wanted the turkey, so my idea is not that crazy. I think we should keep thinking about chickens, and eggs, and be silly. Being silly is now the only thing keeping me together.

I might just get a chook as a pet. I'll call her...

Need to think about it.

For now, since thebeave brought sheep into it, here's an absolutely charming vid of a sheep with some baby chooks:

Brisbane is hosting the olympics at some point and we all want the mascot to be the bin chicken!

That’s the spirit!!
In fact … let’s let our National Bird be the chicken egg!

We 'murkins seem to have a weird relationship with our designated national animals. The bald eagle is our national bird, but we nearly killed them off to extinction just a few decades ago. Here in California, the grizzly bear is our state animal, and we DID kill them into extinction in this state (its on our state flag, fer christ's sake!). Why do we kill off animals that we revere and honor? Do other countries do this?

Methinks you don't know the meaning of the word "sheepish".

That must be why he looked so scared:

In Australia the kangaroo and emu are on our coat of arms, and kangaroos are regularly killed for pet food and human food. However, we have many millions of kangaroos.
