Yet another war, this time with Iran

The Holomodor is not forgotten by Ukranians even if you have.
No, I have not. It is history. But that was a century ago (1932). In trying to join Europe and US, they have landed up in a greater horror. They have lost much and gained nothing.
Blaming the victim. Disgusting.

I hear that India has a horrible rape culture as well. Is it rubbing off on you too?

My remark rebutted barbos’s inane claim that Ukrainians had no reason to dislike Russians. Of course, now they have greater reason to dislike their barbaric neighbors.

There is simply no force that can compete with the U.S. in a total war setting
Even Pakistan has enough bombs for US, approx. 170. Sure, US, Russia or China can destroy non-nuclear nations at will.
Our military might is really only suited to big war stuff. Once you start going small war or occupation, it isn't as useful.
US does not like returning body-bags. Many others do not care for it.

I was truly horrified by what I found in Wikipedia. India 2.2/100,000, US 41.4, England and Wales at the top with 117.3.
Would you term that as 'civilized'?
"Those who live in glass houses should not throw stones at other houses"
Is that an English proverb or just an Indian one?

What prompts such comments? But there's more and more of this kind of dickishness at IIDB.

Certainly US (and Europe) would be happy trading with Russia if they stop their war in Ukraine and stop threatening their other neighbors.
War in Ukraine would stop if NATO countries do not supply arms to Zelenskyy to continue war, which is their original design. Proxy war.
Of course, Russia wont give back the occupied regions.
India has its own issues that may hinder economic growth. One of the chief ones being climate and heat waves.
Survival before safety for Delhi's poor as temperatures hit 45C
That happens nearly every year and we have survived (though at the moment, we are having a pleasant break, 11 am 33 C, goes to 35 at 2 pm).
Yeah, that is a pleasant break.
In what way are we "not very happy with India"?
One indicator is Trump's Tariffs. Initially it was 50%. But Indian negotiators are smart. Today's news: They are "punctuations away" from deals with UK and US.
Piyush Goel: Minister of Commerce and Industry; S. Jaishankar: Foreign Minister

The West is clearly dying, at least they think they are dying.
Why would I care? I live at longitude 153°E. That's 20° further East than Vladivostok.
Unlike north and south, east and west does not have an ultimate extent. It just wraps around, Pacman style. You went so far east, you are west again.
Nah, it doesn't become west again until you get to 180°, by definition.

In an invasion/total war scenario meant to wholly take over Iran, the only serious problem would be the potential logistical problems.
Seriously? Have you seen Iran? I took this photo of the place (looking from the Gulf Coast towards Tehran) back in February 2025.

It's perfect terrain for defence. A handful of guys with AK47s could hold off an army at each mountain pass. And once the army finally breaks through, there's another. And another. And another.

And the defenders know how to sneak around and attack your flanks, rear, and logistics train once you get past each ridgeline.

Russia discovered in the 1980s in Afghanistan that terrain like this is impossible to attack and hold, even when you have overwhelming logistical and technical dominance.

Then the US discovered the same, also in Afghanistan.

Iran is Afghanistan, only harder, and with more and better equipped locals who are even more fanatical in their hatred of America.

If you think "potential logistical problems" would be the only serious problem, then you have a lot of very serious problems, the first of which is "severe overconfidence".

North Korea was a limited victory and didn't just involve the U.S. There were 16 NATO countries that sent combat troops and 23 in total sent various assets, e.g. military medical personnel. Nobody wanted a WW3 that would've happened had we kept NK. It's China's buffer nation in that area and taking it further than that would've been disastrous.

The same applied in Vietnam. If the U.S. had chosen to go to Hanoi and destroy that government, it could've done so in a matter of a few months, if not less. However, doing so would have assured a much wider conflict that nobody wanted.

Iraq: same concept as above. Had we ruthlessly destroyed Baghdad and other major population centers like we did with Japan and Germany it wouldn't have taken long to pacify it. Also, the idiotic de-Baathification policy only served to make things more difficult than they needed to be.

Since WW2, U.S. military policy in relevant conflicts has been one of restraint due to changing global circumstances. We did indeed beat NK's ass until China showed up, but then we beat them back as well and could've gone all the way to the Yalu, but again, that would've meant a wider war when the Korean War by itself was already unpopular.
So in other words, the US could win if only they abandoned the moral high ground. At which point, their winning would do the world more harm than good.

If the good guys can only win by becoming the bad guys, we are better off to just stick with the existing bad guys, who at least are less militarily powerful than the USA.

I retract that...

"Reported annual"... "Reported." That's part of the culture. But it is besides the point.

War in Ukraine would stop if NATO countries do not supply arms to Zelenskyy to continue war, which is their original design. Proxy war.
You are suggesting that if only Ukraine would lay back, stop fighting and accept the Russian rapists into their country the war would be over. You blame the suffering in Ukraine on NATO for helping to repel a rapist instead of the rapist. WHY? Why do you continuously defend Russian imperialism?

I don't think it's "rape culture". It's just what happens when a country is corrupt and cops are bribeable. It's a "bad people can get away with anything if they're rich enough"-culture. If rich people behave badly the behaviour will propagate down the hierarchy ladder. When poor people get caught doing heinious crimes it'll make itself into the news (and the statistics). To fix the "rape culture" the criminal justice system needs to start working. Ie, fix the corruption and you fix all the related problems.

Corruption poisons and ruins everything in a culture.

I recall reading an American study published in the 1880'ies which studied what made Scandinavians so prone to criminal and deviant behaviour. They'd come from a low corruption/high social control society and moved to the very corrupt USA where they could get away with anything. Once they started establishing themselves, making money and corruption got under control, Scandinavians turned into orderly well behaved American citizens.

It's just down to incentives.

But India is getting better all the time. This "rape culture" will dissapear as India becomes wealthy, orderly and corruption goes down

Perfect logic. Like “polio is gone. There is no need for vaccines”.
Polio and small pox are gone from India, but not from the sub-continent or elsewhere. That is why we need vaccines.
Russia is better served by trade rather than war, if US would allow it.

42% of Russia's total economy is devoted to war and killing people. Any trade with Russia is supporting this. I know that India is a tough spot as neighbors with Russia; But Indian trade with Russia is helping their economy and killing Ukranians. The west should have no trade with Russia until the war is over. Period.

why not 99%?

Again, very easy for you to promote war when you don't serve. If old guys had to serve on the front lines; there would be far less war in the world.
I think americans should just shut up when it comes to wars they start.

One of the differences between you and I is that I call out imperialism by whomever starts it. Trump's decision to invade Iran was awful and is going to kill our economy. You only call out imperialism when it is done by Ameria. I wouldn't advocate for any war unless it is one that I would personally join or would be comfortable with my children joining.
