Russian Invasion of Ukraine - tactics and logistics

The Russian state media regulator, Roskomnadzor, has issued a warning to Russian media over an interview with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

The regulator warned the press they must not publish the interview and that “an investigation has been started in order to identify the level of responsibility and what response will be taken” in relation to the media that carried out the interview.

Roskomnadzor notes some of the media outlets that conducted the interview are designated “foreign agents” in Russia.

Earlier, liberal Russian outlet Meduza announced it had interviewed Zelensky, along with Dozhd TV and Russian newspaper Kommersant. Meduza and Dozhd are both blocked in Russia and Dozhd has suspended all journalistic activities.

Look at the thread. Assuming this isn't simply propaganda from Moscow these guys were an artillery unit that had been shelling civilians. Don't expect decent treatment from those you've been engaging in war crimes against.

It is difficult to trust anything posted in social media that hasn't been corroborated, but nothing justifies this kind of abuse, which is a war crime. It is probably the case that both sides in every war ever made have committed atrocities against the enemy. This kind of behavior plays directly into Putin's narrative about why Russia was justified in conducting his "spetsoperatsiya" Ukraine. It is possible that the brutality is revenge against an artillery unit, but now Russia has video to motivate Russian soldiers to commit similar atrocities against Ukrainians who surrender. War crimes do not justify war crimes, and they are self-defeating in the end.

HA HA HA!

Abramovich, Ukrainian Peace Negotiators Suffered 'Poisoning Symptoms'

Sanctioned Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich and Ukrainian peace negotiators suffered symptoms of suspected poisoning earlier this month after a meeting in Kyiv, The Wall Street Journal has reported.

The newspaper said on March 28 that its sources were people familiar with the matter but did not name them. It said Abramovich, who accepted a Ukrainian request to help negotiate an end to the Russian invasion of Ukraine, and at least two senior members of the Ukrainian team were affected.

Their symptoms included red eyes, constant and painful tearing, and peeling skin on their faces and hands, the report added.

Abramovich, owner of the English Premier League soccer team Chelsea, confirmed through a spokesperson that he "suffered symptoms of suspected poisoning," according to open-source investigative group Bellingcat and the BBC.

Abramovich and the Ukrainian negotiators, including Crimean Tatar lawmaker Rustem Umerov, have improved and their lives are not in danger, the newspaper said.

Bellingcat said earlier on Twitter that "three members of the delegation attending the peace talks between Ukraine and Russia on the night of 3 to 4 March 2022 experienced symptoms consistent with poisoning with chemical weapons. One of victims was Russian entrepreneur Roman Abramovich."

Vlad the Poisoner is at it again. Apparently, he just can't help himself. This time, he skipped the underwear trick.

I'm not saying it's a good thing, I'm saying that it should be expected.

Russia is no longer requesting Ukraine be “denazified” and is prepared to let Kyiv join the EU if it remains militarily non-aligned as part of ceasefire negotiations, according to four people briefed on the discussions.

Moscow and Kyiv are discussing a pause in hostilities as part of a possible deal that would involve Ukraine abandoning its drive for Nato membership in exchange for security guarantees and the prospect of joining the EU, the people said under the condition of anonymity because the matter was not yet finalised.

The draft ceasefire document does not contain any discussion of three of Russia’s initial core demand

Not to derail the discussion but strategic planners in the U.S. and Europe will be refocusing much of their efforts on China because they've learned that the Russian threat isn't nearly as powerful as they once thought, at least not conventionally. Russia is just not the military machine everyone thought it was likely due to the fact that the country is so corrupt. So much of its potential is wasted building superyachts and looting the treasury for personal gain.

The latest news is that Russia has promised to dramatically reduce its attack on Kyiv and Chernihev, but the Ukrainian army had already pushed them back in these areas. So it is basically an acknowledgment of the status quo--i.e. a retreat from areas it can't hold any longer. I have read in a few places that they will keep up the bombing and bombardments while pulling back, which essentially what they have been doing. In areas where they aren't getting their ears pinned back, they are still attacking.

Russia pledges to reduce attack on Kyiv but U.S. warns threat not over

I would be surprised if any quick progress were made in negotiations. Ukraine will settle for "neutral status", but Russia does not want them to rebuild their military for obvious reasons. They may not oppose Ukraine joining the EU. Given that the Western alliance is not part of the talks, there can be no agreement on sanctions, which are likely to require concessions beyond what Russia can wring out of Ukraine. The US and Europe will almost certainly help Ukraine rebuild its military defenses, and Russia has to aid in the rebuilding of Ukraine's infrastructure.

The reality for Putin is that no amount of censorship is going to keep the Russian people from learning the full extent of what he has done in their name.

As I feared, it didn't take long to figure out that the Russian withdrawals have nothing to do with openness to negotiation. They are a total sham to cover up a strategic retreat and regrouping, while Russia continues its relentless destruction of civilian targets with bombs and missiles.

And the Russian side is definitely not retreating from its policy of ever more vicious atrocities. They deliberately target schools, places of public gatherings, fleeing civilians, hospitals, and anything else that can spread terror, thus driving the exodus of refugees beyond even the direst predictions of the UN.

It is beyond me how the press infered any possibility of a negotiated peace. Putin said explicity Ukrain has no right to exist. He said there would be no invasion right up until he did, then still insists it is not an invasion. Media reports a breakthrough, Putin says no such thing and no agreement.

The only way out is to push Russia out.

Putin is Hitler. The sooner the west realizes and accepts this fact, however grudgingly, however reluctantly, however insofar as it dashes hopes of immediate "peace in our time," the sooner we'll begin to end this thing. We have the advantage and we're giving it away in hopes that Hitler will begin to act with civility. I can't believe we're soft peddling on this for so long.

Hitler with nuclear weapons. That seems to be a good way of putting it. So many people were horrified that Joe Biden spoke what everyone was thinking while in Poland, but that's what everyone is wishing for. There appears to be no resolution in Putin's mind other than total annihilation of Ukrainian freedom and independence. He can pause and gaslight everyone about his intentions, but his actions have told the truth about his intentions.

I disagree strongly. Even if it was accurate (and I admit there are parallels), mentioning Hitler trivialises what is happening in Ukraine and reduces it to a debate between 14 year olds on Tik Tok. Or something Marjorie Taylor Greene would say.
You don't need to compare Putin to Hitler, Stalin or Cobra Commander to make valid arguments against him. His actions are vile and reprehensible enough on their own to warrant condemnation.

If he gets what he wants in Ukraine, he won't stop with Ukraine.

I don't think Putin would try to murder entire races like Hitler tried, but he would certainly have anyone who disagrees with him murdered. He would certainly grab as much of Europe and Asia as possible and impose a police state everywhere he grabs.

Like I said before, I believe the West need to do everything short of causing Putin to use city-killer Nukes to permanently stop him. The problem remains that no one knows where that point is where Putin would use Nukes and it would change from day to day.

Given the recent Russian Army performance, how could you think that?

I'm talking about his personality/desires, not so much his actual current military capability. Do you really think that if Putin got Ukraine he would be satisfied with that and stop?
