Thank you for your gracious offer. We will respectfully decline as we have sufficient already. But that’s so expensive! How about deporting them to Australia?might the alternative of life in prison without parole.
Well, nothing but the walls, the guards, and the cops. Most people who kill themselves use guns or poison; we've deliberately made those hard to get into prisons. Consequently, most prison suicides are by hanging. If you hang yourself your chance of dying is about 75%. If a prisoner hangs himself his chance of dying is about 2%. Prison guards have gotten pretty good at stopping anyone from committing suicide in prison. There is nothing stopping anyone from committing suicide in prison.Meh. Fine by me.So last night Florida executed someone who wanted to die. He had waived appeals. The man actually killed his cell mate in order to be executed so he wouldn’t spend decades more in prison. ...
I pretty much think that anyone sentenced to life in prison should have the option to tap out whenever they want.

Unless their name is Epstein.Prison guards have gotten pretty good at stopping anyone from committing suicide in prison.
Why on Earth would we limit that freedom to criminals alone?I pretty much think that anyone sentenced to life in prison should have the option to tap out whenever they want.
There bloody well is. Prisons generally take significant steps to prevent inmates from killing themselves. There is nothing stopping anyone from committing suicide in prison.
Speaking of walls, I saw a show once (don't remember which) wherein this guy kills himself in prison by slamming his head against the wall. Pure fiction, but it left me wondering if someone would have the tenacity to do that? And wouldn't you lose consciousness before doing fatal damage that way?Well, nothing but the walls, the guards, and the cops. I think anyone intent on committing suicide in prison will be successful, despite the prevention efforts of the prisons. There bloody well is. Prisons generally take significant steps to prevent inmates from killing themselves. There is nothing stopping anyone from committing suicide in prison.
Sure, it is possible to commit suicide in prison. But few first-world prisons do nothing to stop it.
You’re never going to make it as a suicidal prisoner. Those things are tools, not obstacles! Jump off the wall, or attack the guard or the cop and they’ll help you out!Well, nothing but the walls, the guards, and the cops.
I think that records of suicide attempts by prisoners that were prevented by the guards and/or by other anti-suicide measures, show that you are mistaken to think this.I think anyone intent on committing suicide in prison will be successful, despite the prevention efforts of the prisons.
Bullshit, Tigers!. You're better than that.In an atheistic worldview there is no justice at all, ever. Good/evil - no difference between them. Boils down to might = right.
The cost to any society of training its citizens to believe that the right to live is a matter of pragmatism far outweighs any financial cost of maintaining criminals in isolation. As far as death being equated with justice as a religious concept, I think ideally it’s more of a pragmatic thing. The tribe shouldn’t have to feed a member whose presence within it is a detriment to the tribe. Ostracism can come back to bite you so, sorry Seymour, we gotta repo your molecules.
Shall we ask Jeffrey Epstein?I think that records of suicide attempts by prisoners that were prevented by the guards and/or by other anti-suicide measures, show that you are mistaken to think this.I think anyone intent on committing suicide in prison will be successful, despite the prevention efforts of the prisons.
A case in point. The big concern about Epstein's "suicide" stems from the fact that such attempts are usually, and therefore are expected to be, thwarted by the guards - leading to the question of why his particular case wasn't, and whether it was in fact suicide at all.Shall we ask Jeffrey Epstein?I think that records of suicide attempts by prisoners that were prevented by the guards and/or by other anti-suicide measures, show that you are mistaken to think this.I think anyone intent on committing suicide in prison will be successful, despite the prevention efforts of the prisons.
Chopper agrees with you. Just sayin' and agreeing. FYIThere bloody well is. Prisons generally take significant steps to prevent inmates from killing themselves. There is nothing stopping anyone from committing suicide in prison.

I have this statement a few times and still are not sure what you are trying to say.The cost to any society of training its citizens to believe that the right to live is a matter of pragmatism far outweighs any financial cost of maintaining criminals in isolation. As far as death being equated with justice as a religious concept, I think ideally it’s more of a pragmatic thing. Doing that is how you fill your prisons in the first place.

My brain hurts.

They're fundamentally unstable. When religions become governments, theological debates become wars. Not as a basis for law, no.Cannot have religious concepts now can we?
Theocracies suck.
Normally, yes. Some Devil's Island prisoners are reported to have succeeded. You really need a prison system like that one that doesn't give a damn if the inmates live or die; otherwise a prisoner who tries it will be moved to a padded cell.Speaking of walls, I saw a show once (don't remember which) wherein this guy kills himself in prison by slamming his head against the wall. Pure fiction, but it left me wondering if someone would have the tenacity to do that? And wouldn't you lose consciousness before doing fatal damage that way?
