As a geriatrician, I discuss the effects of aging with patients every day. I wish I had a chance to give my usual talk to everyone who chortles or tears their hair out about President Biden’s fitness for his job.

First, memory. I explain to patients that there are three components to consider. One is formation. Then storage. And finally, recall. The most common issue among seniors is slow recall. This is the familiar “tip of the tongue” phenomenon, when a word seems to hide or a name won’t come to mind. You know the name, it’s in your bank of memories, it just can’t be accessed quickly. Given time, it usually arrives.

This problem, called age-associated memory impairment, often starts for people in their 30s and gradually progresses. It’s a nuisance but not disabling. If, like me, you find yourself using the term “whatchamacallit,” you probably have it. Don’t worry, you’ll be fine.

Actuarial tables show that the 81-year-old president’s life expectancy extends nearly eight years, well beyond a second term. He gets excellent healthcare, has no major chronic illnesses, and at his recent physical at Walter Reed Military Medical Center, he was declared “healthy, active" and “fit for duty.” All that means that Biden is likely to beat the actuarial estimate. Given his overall health and the absence of current cognitive impairment, he would likely complete a second term with stable cognition.

I've read lots of similar things written by neurologists. The way most put it, is that when we age, we have a lot more data in our brains, so it often takes more time to pull up the word, or idea we're trying to remember. As an older adult myself, I know how true this is, although I don't think it was that bad for me until I was around 70. Now, while my short term memory is still usually quite intact, I sometimes remember shit when it come to names of people and even things, if I haven't had a reason to think of them for quite awhile. I wish I was a sharp as Biden.

Plus, I can't imagine dealing with as much stress as he has dealt with over the past few years and still be able to function at all, regardless of his age. He shows that age and experience often equate with wisdom. It still shocks me that so many Republicans who used to be fairly moderate, are now supporting Trump. "Party over country" is the expression that fits them quite well.

I'd prefer that this didn't happen.

But if Biden doesn't make it until November, Kamala Harris will become president.
And she'll have all that immunity that Trump has been arguing for.

She could send Trump to gitmo. And there won't be anything he can do about it. And she could put off elections until after the State of Emergency, because of immunity and stuff.
Then she and Gavin Newsom could decide where to go from there.

Because that's the post law world that the Teaparty and Trump have been working on for years and now we've got it. Harris could shoot Trump in broad daylight on 5th Avenue, not lose any support and make anyone who objected understand the modern Republican reality. Because she's got immunity from prosecution.

I'm pretty sure even Gorsuch would prefer not to be on the losing end of that one and would vote "appropriately".

I’ve been seeing this new line develop among the MAGA cult since Biden exploded their “he’s demented” narrative with his brilliant, articulate, and forceful speech. The new line, as exemplified by the above with the cherry-picked photo and the “unhinged” line is that, Biden, during his speech, was SHOUTING, don’t you know, which means he’s UNHINGED!

But every accusation is indeed a confession. How many times have we seen MAGA’s Great Lord, the Orange Turd, shouting at the top of his lungs his incoherent babble, spittle flying from his flapping lips and his orange hair dye leaking down the side of his face all smeared up with bronzer? It’s so like what was being said during the shutdown confrontations, every one of which Biden won — MAGA complaining that their leaders were being taken to the cleaners by Unca Joe. But wait!
