On the contrary. Low life thieves are generally lazy slackers. They don't observe shit, and aren't particularly interested in you.If you have low-life neighbors, the chances are strong that they observe your comings and goings very closely, and have learned your habits.
They've probably noticed that your place is generally unoccupied at certain times of the day, but that's just incidental to the fact that they're always hanging around, as they don't have jobs to go to.
Most criminals are pathetic losers. Making them out to be cunning, ruthless, and organised is unwarranted - but it's great propaganda for people who want to divert more of your taxes to policing and the incarceration industry.
Sure, they know when you're not home, and sure, they'll take advantage. But that doesn't require close study of you or your life, and the idea that they're watching your every move is paranoia. They probably couldn't pick you out of a line up; They don't care about you, just your valuables.
