Holy Crap - The Revolution is about to start

You know what's telling about the whole 'Trump doesn’t literally mean what he says; he means something else' argument? They don’t apply that same logic to liberals. :whistle:
:rolleyes: Okay, fine. Harris literally means that college students are all dumb, and Clinton literally means that half of the people who vote Republican are deplorable humans who are irredeemable. And Obama literally thinks there are 57 states. Happy now?

It's dumb to apply that logic at all, regardless of which party you're targeting.

I'm confused. I thought the point was not taking people out of context and to take a more nuanced view. Now you're saying it's dumb to do that at all? I was actually seeing valuable returns in what you were saying. Guess I misunderstood.
You implied that I don't use the same method of considering context when talking about liberals. I do. But it was a helluvalot more fun to flip it entirely and just go to taking everyone out of context and completely literally. I find it useful in highlighting the issue.

Honestly, I wasn’t referring to you—I was talking about conservative public officials and media.
Alright, I withdraw my complaint.

Imagine how fast and thorough the reaction by the local authorities would have been if that float were carrying a bunch of hairy chested dudes, dancing in tutus and wearing tiaras.
Tom

Hey conservatives, wanna gaslight us on why this one isn't what it looks like?

Halloween parade faces backlash over float depicting Trump leading Harris in chains

That's just... good clean fun, I guess?
See what the violent rhetoric from the left causes?
Liberals have a floating Trump baby blimp and a naked adult Trump. They have VP Harris in chains.
Kathy Griffin would be disappointed you are ignoring her.

So long ago Emily doesn’t remember.

But it wasn’t about a group of fascists trying to seize control of a government;
Sure it was. But it was also:
it was about a group of clowns desperately trying to retain control over one they had no business trying to control in the first place, all due to Cold War politics, oil interests, and addiction to regional dominance. They staged a coup, alienated much of the population, and allowed economic inequality to escalate, which eventually lead to a nationwide protest. As the authoritarian leaders propped up by the US abandoned ship, Islamist filled the power vacuum, leading to a strict theocratic rule that continues to this day. Just like the Fall of the USSR, the USA screwed up an opportunity.
The external influence of the USA, and of the corporate interests persuing their own greedy agendas, allowed the ever-present theocrats to seize control in Afghanistan.

Fortunately, there are no foreign governments or greedy billionaires trying to influence US politics, in ways which could lead to a theocratic takeover.

Imagine how awful it would be if Russia were able to manipulate American voters through some kind of hypothetical "Bond villan"-esque 'World Wide Web'; Or if a bunch of billionaires were in control of the news media, to the extent that noble institutions such as the Washington Post were blocked by its owner from endorsing the sane candidate for President.

I am so glad that such things are confined to dystopian science fiction.

What happened to Afghanistan? And also Tehran?

Islamism! And it is the Left that is enamored of Islam for some weird reason.
Even the left in Iran worked with the ayatollahs to overthrow the Shah, and then predictably the religion of face eating leopards ate their faces as well.

Being anti-bigotry or (anti-genocide) do not mean being pro-Islam, or pro-Buddhist, or pro-Christian, or pro-Shinto, or pro-Confucianism. It just means being anti-bigotry. You do not have to support someone's philosophical views to understand that they are deserving of fundamental rights and the equal protection of the law as anyone else.

It’s scary right now. I try to keep in mind;
What about those waving communist and Hamas/Hezbollah flags?

Waving flags. Something should be done about that? Or were you hoping I would endorse the Hezzies?
Yeah, I feel far less threatened by The Others (including Hezzies) waving flags than by Agent Orange and his minions.
FAR less.

I can't comment on Tehran, I was there also but Iran was a lot more modern than Afghanistan, it wouldn't have been something notable.
