Having read the books I don't find the picture nutty. It is censored compared to the books, though--clothes don't exist on Barsoom. (They have cold weather gear and they have harnesses for carrying things, but no concept of concealing body parts.)

I was thinking more along the lines of how dorky the white ape looked, especially compared to how Burroughs described them
