January 6 Hearings Live

As long as they teach both sides of the Holocaust arguments, the. That’s OK!

As long as math teachers teach both sides of whether 2+2 equals 4 or 5! As long as science teachers teach both chemistry and alchemy!

2 + 2 does equal 5 for sufficiently large values of 2.

January 6 panel approves Steve Bannon criminal contempt report - CNNPolitics

"Committee Chairman Bennie Thompson told CNN on Tuesday that he expects the full House to vote on criminal contempt charges for Bannon before the end of the week, and a source familiar with the floor schedule told CNN the plan is for the the chamber to vote on the referral on Thursday. After the full House vote, it would then get referred to the Justice Department."

This time, Trump won't be able to pardon him.

Also, it will be the Justice Dept. that does the enforcing.

Holder Held in Contempt of Congress, Which Means Almost Nothing

I concede that if Trump gets re-elected, he'll be able to pardon Steve Bannon.
Trump, 2nd Era, 3 Feb 2025.
With a stack of blank pardons on his desk, a sharpie in his hand, Trump begins to review his 'friend$ li$t' and their current 'what has he done for me lately' credit.
That reminds me:

Trump To Pence: I Won't 'Be Your Friend Anymore' Unless You Overturn Election | Crooks and Liars
"But wouldn't it be almost cool to have that power?" Trump asked.

Mike Pence replied, "No, I've done everything I could and then some to find a way around this. It's simply not possible."

Trump whined, "No, no, no! You don't understand, Mike. You can do this. I don't want to be your friend anymore if you don't do this."

This is how a narcissistic baby talks when he doesn't get his way.

Ron Watkins, someone with strong QAnon connections, is now running for Congress in Arizona.

Shayan Sardarizadeh on Twitter: "Ron Watkins suggests President Trump should follow the example of Roman statesman Julius Caesar - who launched a four-year-long civil war to end the Roman Republic - and use a 2018 executive order as well as the "fierce loyalty of the military" in order to "restore the Republic". Among the porn, the Q stuff, the audit nonsense, remember Ron Watkins tried to goad Trump into conducting a military coup. This was at a time Trump was retweeting Watkins and seemed to be listening to him.

Watkins' message to Trump was designed to appeal to his egomania: a coup will immortalise you in history like Julius Caesar, make you famous for millennia. Also, you and your family might have to answer for crimes if you don't.

Ultimately, Trump was too dumb, and surrounded by people who were too dumb, to pull off a coup.

Remember, though, that Watkins was one of those people actively urging Trump to overthrow the Constitution of the US and establish military rule. Now he's running for Congress.

Mike. You can do this. I don't want to be your friend anymore if you don't do this."

It is an SNL skit that writes itself.
Trump at the desk, rubber stamping pardons. A line of people coming in from the left, dropping money in the deposit chute, getting a pardon and leaving to the left.
A 'speed line' from the right for 'Friends and Family' discount. Each person enters, genuflects, Ivanka introducing them, "This is your son, Junior. He wants a pardon for his involvement in tipping over a Harris bus on an Arizona freeway before the election."
"What's he done for me, lately?"
"Daddy?"
"Meh..." she says.
"VANKA!?"
"Well," she admits, "he did tip over the bus for you, but if you admit it, you might face consequences."
"Denied." Kushner pulls the handle on the trap door....

...if they enforce it.

"Committee Chairman Bennie Thompson told CNN on Tuesday that he expects the full House to vote on criminal contempt charges for Bannon "

Why do they keep saying this, as if the House can actually charge him? No, the house will vote on whether or not to ask the DOJ to look into charging him.
The oversight function of Congress was gutted by the Trump cabal, who have established a four year continuous precedent of thumbing their nose at congressional subpoenas. That is now the accepted "norm", a Trumpy tradition if you will. Changing it won't be easy. The Nazis are poised to rally their brainless masses to protest "political imprisonment" when anyone tries to lock up the trumpsucking criminals.

Shouldn't that be, "If killing me and others like me will give them power..."?

Otherwise, I can't parse that.

So Trump is filing suit to stop the production of documents from the National Archives about the events of January 6th. The lower courts will likely rule against him. But he got to appoint three of the Justices of the US Supreme Court. They should have the case on an emergency docket before the documents are to be produced. There is wiggle room for Trump to argue. The last Court decision left open the possibility that a former President could assert the privilege. I suspect they will issue some non opinion staying the matter until a final ruling on the merits thus delaying any potential release for years.

The Fascists are doing all that they can to just delay things until the last possible minute. If they can delay things till next year, they’ll likely take back the House and put an end to this. Bannon’s hope is that by the time Congress gets around to asking the DoJ to arrest and prosecute him, they will be outnumbered and just give up. He may be right.

Treason requires a foreign power.
I think, if you don't have any imported treason, store-bought 'sedition' is fine for most recipes.

H. Rept. 117-152 - RESOLUTION RECOMMENDING THAT THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES FIND STEPHEN K. BANNON IN CONTEMPT OF CONGRESS FOR REFUSAL TO COMPLY WITH A SUBPOENA DULY ISSUED BY THE SELECT COMMITTEE TO INVESTIGATE THE JANUARY 6TH ATTACK ON THE UNITED STATES CAPITOL | Congress.gov | Library of Congress
Statements publicly made by Mr. Bannon on January 5, 2021, suggest that he had some foreknowledge about extreme events that would occur the next day. Mr. Bannon noted on January 5th that the country was facing a ``constitutional crisis'' and ``that crisis is about to go up about five orders of magnitude tomorrow.''\14\ He also stated that, ``All hell is going to break loose tomorrow. [. . .] It's not going to happen like you think it's going to happen. OK, it's going to be quite extraordinarily different.''\15\

The vote on it
Oct 21, 2021, 04:09 PM | 117th Congress, 1st Session

Vote Question: On Agreeing to the Resolution

Recommending that the House of Representatives find Stephen K. Bannon in contempt of Congress for refusal to comply with a subpoena duly issued by the Select Committee to Investigate the January 6th Attack on the United States Capitol

Vote Type: Yea-And-Nay

Status: Passed
The vote: Yes 229, No 202, not voting 1.

Voting for it was all 220 Democrats and 9 Republicans: Cheney, Fitzpatrick, Gonzalez (OH), Katko, Kinzinger, Mace, Meijer, Upton.

The non-voter: Greg Pence, R-IN-06. He's the older brother of former VP Mike Pence.

Can't find a good link but...

"Cheney says GOP Rep. Banks has been sending letters to federal agencies signed as Jan. 6 committee member"

He's asking for copies of everything being sent to the committee, surely to give a heads up ro others that may be caught up in the investigation.

I wonder how many congressional rules that breaks, not to mention probable obstruction of justice.
