Lauren Boebert’s American Dream

I'll need to just take your word for that.
No need for that. That kind of stuff happens:

'It's a party plane': Young man and woman caught having sex on flight to Ibiza

A young man and woman, who were caught and filmed having sex on a flight to Spain, were welcomed by police as they landed in Ibiza on Sept. 8.

The incident took place on an easyJet flight from London's Luton Airport to the Spanish island of Ibiza, according to a spokesperson of the budget airline.

The discovery elicited a variety of reactions from fellow passengers who were heard screaming, laughing, and clapping in the video. Seemingly embarrassed by the incident, the crew member turned his back and looked away.

The mother of the young man caught in the bathroom told The Sun she was "stunned" to see the video.

She said that her son had only met the girl at the airport before boarding the easyJet flight.

Not a Jack in the Box bathroom exactly, nor Tinder or emojis, but you get the idea.
Isn’t this standard practice on EasyJet?

Well, there's probably a reason why the company isn't called OnlyInterestedInARelationshipIfItIsAPathToALongTermCommitmentWithNoSexBeforeMarriageJet.

Possibly that reason is that they don't make long enough aircraft

Lauren Boebert announces change of congressional district for 2024 elections | Colorado | The Guardian

Her announcement: Video | Facebook She will be moving from her current district, CO-03 to her new one, CO-04. CO-03 is in the western part of the state and CO-04 in the eastern part, so she'll have to live out of carpetbags if she campaigns there.

The current CO-04 Rep, Ken Buck, is retiring: Republican to quit House citing party’s reliance on ‘lie’ of stolen 2020 election | Republicans | The Guardian
“I always have been disappointed with our inability in Congress to deal with major issues and I’m also disappointed that the Republican party continues to rely on this lie that the 2020 election was stolen and rely on the January 6 narrative and political prisoners from January 6 and other things,” Buck said.

“If we’re going to solve difficult problems, we’ve got to deal with some very unpleasant truths or lies and make sure that we project to the public what the truth is.”
From LB's announcement:
In her announcement on Wednesday, Boebert called her decision a “fresh start”, adding, “I promised I would do whatever it takes to stop the socialists and communists from taking over our country. That means staying in the fight but also not allowing Hollywood elite and progressive money groups to buy the third district, a seat that they have no business owning.”

She went on to say: “We cannot lose the third and Colorado’s fourth district is hungry for an unapologetic defender of freedom with a proven track record of standing strong for conservative principles.

“I will be moving to the fourth in 2024 and will continue to take my conservative fight directly to them. And the Aspen donors, George Soros and Hollywood actors that are trying to buy the seat, well they can go pound sand. We aren’t going to give them the opportunity to steal the third. Republicans will hold the third and I’ll proudly represent the fourth and Republicans will be stronger for it,” Boebert continued.
In 2022, she beat Democratic challenger Adam Frisch by only 546 votes, 0.17% of the total. AF is running again, and from the looks of it, LB is running scared.

Richard Holtorf, a rival Republican in CO-04:
“Seat shopping isn’t something the voters look kindly upon. If you can’t win in your home, you can’t win here. I’m in it to win it and I welcome the lady from Rifle to the race,” he said, adding, “She is grossly lacking in understanding the needs of the 21 counties in eastern Colorado that make up this district. She knew she’d lose in her own district and I’ll show her that she’ll lose here too.”

I don't see how she's going to fare any better in the new district. Plains conservatives and mountain conservatives aren't really the same.

Yeah, I don’t see her winning, either, but she is correct that a not-Boeber Republican has a much much better chance in the 3rd. It just got a lot tougher for Frisch

Yup. The powers that be obviously put the screws to her.

Oh, she would be a shoo in for that district if she wins the primary. It has something like a 30% Republican margin.

Yes, but why would she win the primary? If they have any other option.

My guess? She doesn’t much care, but didn’t want to be the one laughed out of Congress by her own constituents.

FWIW I am unhappy that Ken “dickweed” Buck is retiring. He’s not as bad as your average trumpsucker - which is likely what they’ll get.

I agree that people should not be district shopping, but why aren't you consistent on this?
You did not call Mondaire Jones a carpet bagger. He did not want to run in the district he lives in - NY16 - as that would mean running against Squad private Jamaal Bowman. He wanted to run in NY17 (the district that shares the number with the old, no longer extant district he used to represent) but got upset that SPM wanted to run where he lived and did not want to run in a neighboring district. In the end MJ ran in the downtown 10th district even though he lives in Westchester. He finished a distant 3rd in the primary.

Wait, did Boebert’s district get redrawn this election?

Or, are you comparing apples to dump trucks again.

I mean, people DID complain about Mondaire’s move. But his decision was not triggered by the writing on the wall in the same district he ran in before. It was triggered by a pretty dynamic shakeup of district lines where a lot of people were moving around in response to those changes.

comparing apples to dump trucks again.

False equivocation is a fav activity[removed]. Hey, some apples are red, some dump trucks are red, so every Democrat politician is as bad as tRump. Furthermore, the same holds for green! Coincidence? No way!

No. Last election, just like everyone else's.
I do not see how redrawn districts excuses MJ though. He didn't want to run either against police defunder JB (where he lives) nor against moderate SPM (in a district sharing the number with his old district). So he went downtown, thinking the open seat would be easier for him to win.

I am not. I am comparing someone shopping for carpet bags with a guy who bought some carpet bags in 2022.

I mean, people DID complain about Mondaire’s move.
Some people did. Lpetrich did not. Hence me pointing out the hypocrisy.

Districts get redrawn at least every 10 years. It was a bit more dramatic in NY because their blatant attempt at gerrymandering was halted by the court. But that does not excuse blatant district shopping. Especially if you take an issue with LB blatantly district shopping.

Btw, because of some new, more lefty, justices on the court, NY Dems have another bite at the gerrymandering apple.

Comparing one carpet bagger with another one is not "false equivocation". The two are far more alike than different.
[removed for consistency]

"whataboutism" is not an argument. It is whining.
It's pointing out hypocrisy.
Only in the case where you can show the person knew about the other situation or denies that situations are comparable when they are.

There are 435 members of the US House of Representatives. Thankfully. most of them toil in obscurity. I doubt most people pay attention to most representatives unless they are their representatives or make splashes in the news.

You can go back to the 2022 election thread where we discussed NY congressional elections in some detail.
Or why even bother? Responses by lpetrich, Rhea et al here indicate that they do not believe Democratic carpet baggers are bad. Typical partisan blinders.

Yeah, because the sentence "But that does not excuse blatant district shopping." is an endorsement. :glare:
