To be fair, it would be alarming if any US Government were to break off diplomatic relations with Moscow, and it should therefore be unremarkable that a US Government representative might meet with Putin in Russia.

Of course, it would also be alarming if diplomatic communications between those representatives and their colleagues were to be insecure, and more alarming still, if the US Government and/or its representatives in Moscow seemed to be uncaring or in denial about that lack of security.

Certainly you must know that I have regarded Trump as having committed treason, at least since the Jan 6 insurrection. I certainly regard many in the current administration as actively working against the interests of this country. Every day it seems that Trump is signing executive orders that violate the Constitution, violates injunctions, and court orders. Of course if there was intention to include a journalist and not merely incompetence, that’s fairly traitorous. And if the texts were really being exchanged while one of the people included was actually in Putin’s presence would certainly imply treason.

Goldberg is the only participant who has shown any integrity or love of country. He is a hero.
